8 Celebrities Who Spoil Their Kids (And 8 Who Don’t)

There are many celebrities in Hollywood who are very open about their excessive spending habits. Many of these same celebrities have seemingly made it their mission to make sure that their children live a life that is just as glamorous as the one that their famous parent does.

But if there are negative ramifications that come with being spoiled your whole life, the 8 celebrity children on our list are definitely going to experience it. DJ Khaled's son cannot tell time yet. But that didn't stop Khaled from spending upwards of $100,000 on a watch for him when he turned 1.

Stormi may not be able to walk, but her shoe collection is definitely something that people are finding themselves envious of. And while it may make sense that Tyga loves women, jewelry, and cars, it may strike you as a little bit odd that it's also what he said his then, 4-year-old son, loved.

But for every celebrity who is seemingly letting their children walk through life with a gold-plated spoon in their mouth, there are celebrities who are raising their children to be a little more humble. You may find yourself looking up to Kristen Bell who is working hard to teach her children the excitement of a great coupon. Even if she is one of the biggest stars on television. Or Sarah Jessica Parker who dressed her son in clothes that her nephews had grown out of.

We would hope these celebrities would agree that being a parent is more important than any project they're ever going to take on. And as you are about to see, there are definitely two very different styles in how these celebrity kids are being raised.

These are the 8 Celebrities Who Spoil Their Children (And 8 Who Don't)

advertising

16 Spoils - Jennifer Lopez

While some celebrities have embraced pregnancy on multiple occasions, for Jennifer Lopez, she has only been pregnant once. Despite this, the one time she was pregnant led to her giving birth to twins, Max and Emma.

The two turned 10 earlier this year and Lopez spared no expense for their birthday party. It was reported that Lopez spent upwards of $7,500 when she took the two out to the Sugar Factory which is located in Las Vegas. Not missing the opportunity to show the value of good service, Lopez also tipped the staff $5,500.

When talking about her children on the day of their birth, Lopez stated,

"It's hard to get my head around the fact that it's been 10 years since these two forces of nature came into my world and changed my life forever...You healed my soul and rejuvenated my existence... you taught me about love and life and myself in a way I never imagined... and I am forever in love with those beautiful faces..."

Lopez is also in a relationship with Alex Rodriguez who has 2 children from a previous marriage. The two have been seen taking their joined family out for many lavish dates, including courtside tickets to basketball games. Though we're sure Rodriguez would much prefer taking them all to a baseball game!

While you can't completely rule out Lopez and Rodriguez making a child of their own, we're sure they're also pretty pleased with how their current life is shaping up.

15 Don't - Sarah Jessica Parker and Matthew Broderick

advertising

Sarah Jessica Parker's character may have embraced fashion on S*x and the City, but her son's fashion was dictated by whatever clothing her other nephews had already grown out of.

"My son only wears hand-me-downs because I've got all these older nephews, I think it's incumbent on my husband and me to really stress and to show James Wilkie by example what it means to owe your community something and that he is not entitled to the benefits of our hard work."

Those are definitely some great traits to pass on to her children. You can only hope that the clothing items that were passed on were just as nice!

At the time of this interview, Sarah Jessica Parker was only a parent to James. She has since gone on two have twins, Marion and Tabitha, who were born in 2009. All of whom were fathered by her husband, Matthew Broderick. You'd have to hope that their children along with learning tremendous values are also huge fans of The Lion King! If not, you can imagine that was probably a pretty awkward conversation when he asked what their opinion was on the film after they saw it for the first time.

14 Spoils - Lil Wayne

Lil Wayne wanted to make sure that his daughter, Reginae, had herself a 16th birthday party that she would never forget. By the time the night was all said and done, it was reported that he had spent over $500,000 to help ring in the special day. This included two cars being given to her, one a red BMW and the other being a White Ferrari. Wayne also hired his friend, and his daughter's favorite musician, Nicki Minaj to show up and perform at the party. The party was also covered for MTV's My Super Sweet 16.

Though to be fair, he became a father to Reginae when he was only 16 years old so you can imagine at that time he could never have imagined being able to put together that kind of party for her.

Wayne has engaged in many public feuds during his time as a musician, but if he's willing to spend large like that, you'd hope that he always can feel like he has a strong relationship with his children. Though if he ends up only trying to buy their affection, he'd definitely come out looking worse for wear if any of his 4 children put him on blast.

13 Don't - Gordon Ramsay

advertising

Gordon Ramsay is definitely tough on the chefs that are aspiring to work for him, whether that is on Hell's Kitchen or Masterchef. Ramsay also picked up another show for North America this past year, The F Word which he had previously found success with the show in Britain.

But in an interview with The Mirror, Ramsay revealed that he does not take it much easier on his children. Including denying them the chance to sit first-class,

"They don't sit with us in first class. They haven't worked anywhere near hard enough to afford that. I worked my arse off to sit that close to the pilot and you appreciate it more when you've grafted for it."

He continued with, "I do not want them sat there with a 10 course menu with champagne. I am not embarrassed. It is my wife and I's choice to discipline them and to keep them real." Ramsay has also come out in the past and said his children are rarely allowed to eat in any of his restaurants and will not be receiving any of his income when he passes away, saying, "It's [his fortune] definitely not going to them, and that's not in a mean way; it's to not spoil them."

12 Spoils - Beyoncé and Jay-Z

Beyoncé and Jay-Z made it clear from the start that they were not afraid to spend some cash on their first child, Blue Ivy. The couple made headlines when for Ivy's first birthday, they gave her an $80,000 Barbie; that was, of course, encrusted with jewels. Which you have to admit would probably make the toy significantly less fun to play with.

That's perhaps nothing in comparison to the reported other $120,000 that they also threw at her first birthday party, including $95,000 on roses. A source for The Sun said,

“Nothing’s been too big or expensive for their little princess. They wanted her first birthday to set the tone for the rest of her life. They work hard for their money and the first thing they want to spend it on is their baby girl.”

Other ridiculously expensive gifts for Blue Ivy included a solid gold rocking horse that was appraised at being worth $600,000. And of course, every child needs a high chair. But does any child need a $15,000 one that is decked out in Swarovski crystals? Probably not.

Blue Ivy's crib was also valued at being worth $45,000, though there is no telling on if that actually increased the quality of her sleep.

11 Don't - Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr.

advertising

Sarah Michelle Gellar and Freddie Prinze Jr. have two children together. And despite both Gellar and Prinze having what could be considered to be successful careers, it doesn't mean that the family is willing to throw their cash around like it means nothing. In fact, in an interview with Self magazine, Gellar admitted what she'll do with Freddie to help make sure the family is doing all they can to be saving a buck or two,

"Freddie and I go to the supermarket probably every day, because we like to eat fresh, organic and local. People think it's so expensive to eat like that, but there are ways to do it so it's not as pricey. We shop at Whole Foods, but we ask which fish is on sale. On sale doesn't mean it's bad! It probably just means it's overcaught. And I clip coupons all the time. Why should you pay more for something that someone else is paying less for?"

When she puts it like that, the celebrities who burn through cash like it's nothing may seem even sillier in hindsight! Especially because we're sure there are many celebrities who have forgotten what the inside of a grocery store looks like.

10 Spoils - Sean Combs

If you were very lucky, you may have found yourself the owner of a car shortly after the time you learned how to drive. Even if the car was an old beater, we're sure it's one that you loved. But when Sean Combs (perhaps better recognized as P.Diddy) son, Justin, turned 16 years old, Combs gave him the keys to a silver Mercedes Maybach.

The car retailed at the time (2010) at being worth $360,000. Combs received some criticism for the lavish gift that also included $10,000 in partying money. He later defended his actions, saying,

"I think it's appropriate to give my kids whatever I want to give my kids. I feel the way I raise my children, I don't have to explain to you or anyone else, 'cause nobody knows the way I raise my children. So nobody knows the lessons that I've taught my children to understand, if they are mentally ready for that. It wasn't even about a lesson; it's what I wanted to do," he said. "I could do whatever I want to do and you can't question me about it."

When one of Combs' other sons, Quincy, turned 16 he was given the keys to two cars! He has 4 other children who we're sure will also expect some pretty lavish gifts.

9 Don't - Victoria and David Beckham

advertising

Victoria and David Beckham have definitely had a few moments where they have seemingly spoiled their children. This includes one report that they once spent upwards of $50,000 to construct a treehouse. But when it comes down to it, Victoria is convinced her children are not spoiled.

“We both say no to the kids and they don’t get everything they want. It’s nice to treat them but at the same time you don’t want to end up with spoilt little sods, and it could be very easy, especially living here (in Los Angeles)."

She went on to say,

"We’re very strict with them. We treat them now and then but they’re not the kind of kids who have everything they want when they want. I wouldn’t do that. It’s just not good for them. I want them to know you have to work hard for things and if they don’t say please or thank you, they don’t get anything.”

This is a sentiment that is also backed up by David who instead of just opening up his wallet, made Brooklyn get a part-time job at a coffee shop after he started asking for money as a teenager in order to learn a strong work ethic.

8 Spoils - Tyga

When Tyga was asked about his then, 4-year-old son and what some of his interests were, he replied, "He likes everything that I like: cars, women, jewelry."

Wait. What? What the what?! Does any normal 4-year-old have an actual interest in any of those things? Maybe the sparkly aspect of jewelry may stand out? Tyga went on to explain more about his son, who is named King Cairo, when talking with E! News,

"I'm trying to cut back with him on the gifts because he gets very, very spoiled. He is very spoiled...He thinks he is supposed to have all of that, so I have to kind of teach him that I work hard to get everything..."

He continued on, saying, "He's kind of like, 'Pick me up from school in the Bentley in my Bentley car seat.' He's kind of like — not that he's spoiled — but that's all he knows. You've got to kind of teach him other things and that you've got to work for that stuff."

Though if he thinks this is an expensive habit now, just wait until King starts getting older and his taste becomes even more spoiled. We are sure if Tyga ever managed to have a child with Kylie that he would have spoiled that child too.

7 Don't - Dave Grohl

advertising

Dave Grohl is one of the most successful drummers of all-time. But the most important lesson he can teach to his 3 daughters is to be smart with money. Which was a lesson that Grohl admitted he learned the hard way after seeing his mother suffer a stroke when he was younger while she was working on her taxes,

"I remember coming back to the house that night, alone with my sister and looking at the piece of paper she was writing to the IRS on as she started to have her stroke. And it left this indelible mark on me that was 'Money will kill you', that people spend their lives dying inside because of money."

Grohl also gave insight into his driving habits back in 2017, saying, "I drive a family car — not a monster SUV, but a family car that fits five people. I've got a house that is just big enough, too."

Though he did admit that he does have a Tesla that he will drive on occasion! But when you consider he's one of the most talented musicians to ever perform, nobody should give him too hard of a time for having at least one gift that he splurged on for himself.

6 Spoils - DJ Khaled

DJ Khaled's son may be unable to tell time yet, as he was born in 2016, but that hasn't stopped Khaled from buying him an expensive watch. It was reported that Asahd was the benefactor of a $100,000 watch that was adorned with over 600 diamonds for his birthday. Which you can imagine would also have made it pretty hard for Asahd to wear comfortably given his lack of wrist strength. Not like you can blame Asahd though, considering he is still a toddler and doesn't need that kind of gift.

Khaled took to Instagram to share some of the festivities, along with the caption,

"THE 👑!! HAPPY BDAY !! I love you I'm am so proud of you !!!!!! Thank you for being my son! THANK YOU GOD !"

Khaled has also taken his son out to various red carpet events, and often does so while dressing his son in top of the line suits. If you ever wanted an electronic car to ride around in when you were a kid, you may also be jealous that Asahd has at least 3: a Mercedes, Ferrari, and a Rolls Royce. We are sure Khaled will go even bigger when Asahd turns 2.

5 Don't - Kristen Bell and Dax Shepard

advertising

If you were living in Kristen Bell's neighborhood, you may need to keep a close eye on your coupons! When talking with Conan O'Brien about just how far her obsession with saving some money goes she admitted that she's stolen some of them from her neighbors. When she was asked by Conan if there was any style of coupon in particular that stood out for Bell as being particularly steal-worthy, she replied Bed, Bath and Beyond,

"I'm not saying I did do it, but I may or not have stolen them out of my neighbors' mailboxes sometimes. I wouldn't have done it in the dark of night, but if I'm walking my dogs past and I see it sticking out, I may or may not have grabbed it more than once."

Bell also admitted, "I use a lot of coupons. I almost exclusively shop with coupons."

Bell has also rejected the role that the paparazzi can in making her and Dax Shepard's children famous stating back in 2014, “I won’t do interviews 4 entities that pay photogs to take pics of my baby anymore. I care more about my integrity & my values than my career," which is a sentiment that we're sure was also shared by Dax.

4 Spoils - Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott

If Kylie Jenner is going to have to be pushing Stormi around, you don't think she'll do it in some run of the mill stroller, do you? Of course not! People reported earlier in April that Jenner was getting her steps in while pushing Stormi in a Fendi Stroller which was reported as being worth $12,500.

Stormi has also often been seen adorned in a variety of expensive clothing, but to be fair, there is a pretty good chance that a lot of that has been donated to Stormi in order to help promote the brand.

Stormi also has a variety of stylish options for what to put on her feet, including high-top Nike shoes that were gifted from Jordyn Woods. One of Kylie's most recent posts online also revealed that Stormi has the option of rocking Guiseppe Zanotti Sneakers that were customized for Stormi and are priced out as being worth $1,000. We are sure that once Stormi gains the ability to stand up on her own two feet without doing a faceplant that the expensive gifts will flow in on an even more regular basis. Especially when Kylie gets the chance to throw her, her first lavish birthday party! Though if she needs inspiration, the other celebrities on the spoiled side of this list may be a great place to start.

3 Don't - Christina Applegate

advertising

Christina Applegate has always managed to keep herself a level head in public. But if there's one thing she won't stand for, it's members of the paparazzi making her child feel like she has a privileged life

"I want my daughter to live a normal life I want her to feel free to be who she wants, so paparazzi stop taking pics of her! Enough! It’s times like these where I understand why Michael Jackson had his kids covered they were able to be anonymous. Just imagine for one second you having fun with ur kid in the park and a bunch of a-holes start surrounding you and freaking ur kid out,"

Nobody should blame Applegate for wanting to have a level of privacy when it comes to how she raises her one child, a daughter who she named Sadie and was born back in 2011. Applegate also took on a role of a mom (granted, also the antagonist) in the 2016 comedy, Bad Moms. When discussing the role, Applegate stated,

"I'm a mom. We're living in this society that puts so much pressure on us to be perfect and the whole premise of the movie is if one day you just go 'I can't be perfect.' It's about the judgment of moms on other moms. I loved being able to play this incredibly evil woman who represents a lot things you see out there in the world from these very type-A moms who have a lot of judgment."

2 Spoils - Katie Holmes and Tom Cruise

Suri Cruise was caught in the middle of one of the more public divorces when her parents, Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes, decided to go their separate ways.

Reports on the couple in 2012 painted a picture of a little girl who was definitely getting handed extravagant gifts on a regular basis. A source close to the matter stated to OK! Magazine,

"Tom's doing everything he can to make sure Suri stays in his life, not by force, but by choice. He's used to being away from her for weeks while filming, but the divorce brought home how very precious she is to him. She's his flesh and blood, after all."

Part of Tom Cruise's efforts was buying Suri a mansion that was valued at $13.5 million for Christmas. This was alongside some of his other gifts that included a Pony.

Katie Holmes also bought Suri a home, but hers was only $24,000 and was more of a playhouse. Though she did buy her a child-size Mercedes that cost her close to $10,000. Though Tom had bought her a $30,000 race car in 2010, so perhaps "Mom" got the short-end of the stick in that battle as well if Suri was comparing gifts.

1 Don't - Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher

advertising

Even if you are frugal most of the year, perhaps you make an exception to your budget when Christmas rolls around. But that definitely isn't the case for Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis who are both in agreeance that spoiling their children is the last thing they want to do.

“We’re instituting [no presents] this year because when the kids are [younger than] 1, it doesn’t really matter. Last year when we celebrated Christmas, Wyatt was 2, and it was too much. We didn’t give her anything — it was the grandparents. The kid no longer appreciates the one gift. They don’t even know what they’re expecting; they’re just expecting stuff," said Kunis back in October.

Which means that perhaps it's the grandparents who are to blame here! Kunis went on to say,

“We’ve told our parents, ‘We’re begging you — if you have to give her something, pick one gift. Otherwise, we’d like to take a charitable donation, to the Children’s Hospital or a pet or whatever you want.”

The two have also come out in the past and admitted that they will not be leaving their inheritance - which is valued at nearly $300 million - to their children, but will invest in potential business ideas if they think they are viable.
