The Rock has always been the type of individual to come off as an extrovert, fun, and overall the life of a party, but just like anyone else in Hollywood, there are very different sides to a person that have either helped them get to where they are today, or in this case, shine a light on certain aspects of his personality and behavior that might not do them so many favors. The Rock has always been a trademark image and personality, even an icon, when it comes to masculinity. He’s also always been seen as this loving guy that’s really down to earth, professional, amazing as his talents, but most of all, he was idolized for almost everything he decides to do. It, of course, helps that anything he did decides to do, he actually ends up pretty good at it, amazing even! But at any point in someone’s life, you’re bound to have a bad day where you show a not so nice version of yourself. This happens to be the case with The Rock.

While he might be a nice person overall, he’s had some questionable moments where it’s made people scratch their heads. Not only has he overshadowed many wrestlers in the WWE world where he came from, but he also continues to build his career with ease as he progresses through life. He’s made some enemies over the years and we’re here to discuss exactly why The Rock might not be the nice guy he pretends to be.

He Slips Up With His Persona

It’s never really a positive experience when you find out a celebrity who you idolize plays a character most of the time when you see them under the spotlight. It is almost heartbreaking to see someone you look up to just playing a role they think they need to put on in order to continue growing their fame.

While it’s never been felt by many that he was lying about what he says in interviews and such, it does sometimes feel like maybe he’s playing up his personality to gain more attention.

Even Quora published this about The Rock recently, discussing how he uses his persona to basically get everything handed to him: “But now, he is a successful Hollywood actor and makes a small time appearance and takes title shots away from deserving wrestlers. Fans of PG Era hate him for the way WWE hands over everything to him.” While this should never be an acceptable way to grow your career, it does seem to be the way that The Rock is going about it, even though people aren’t that happy about it. Balancing this WWE superstars personality while also being a real person who wouldn’t be that bad of a guy, seems to be getting to him quite a bit in recent years.

He Shows His Real Side On Social Media

It honestly makes it even worse to know that, not only is your celebrity idol, The Rock, playing up their personality on the big screen, but he’s also trying to gain as much attention on social media by glorifying many instances of his social media and even being a bit shallow. While it’s absolutely fantastic to have confidence and body confidence, it’s inspiring in many cases, when all you do is take selfies with some macho bro-y caption, it can honestly be a bit of a no.

There have been many cases where The Rock has slipped up when trying to keep up his personality, and it makes it all just a bit confusing. Social media is a place where celebs and other individuals of influence can share their message in a positive way, but celebs should never put on an act.

But even still, The Rock carries on that persona that seems so disconnected from real life. While it can be perfectly fine to have an online personality, it comes to a point where when you're that famous, you do have some ethical responsibility to have a positive influence on those who follow you, no matter what age they happen to be or where they’re from.

He Has Treated Women Differently On Camera

There have been some major cases where The Rock played up his macho personality on camera, especially around women, which always comes off in a very weird way, and might even be a little bit offensive. While he might be super nice to people of any type when the cameras are off, there have been many instances where he has put women in very awkward positions with conversations on camera that put them on the spot. Icky! In a video published by Brandon Wilkinson, it’s seen quite clearly that The Rock does treat women quite differently compared to real life. He’s seen in the video almost flirting with Lana, she goes along with it because it’s probably all just in the script, but it’s weirdly uncomfortable and seems pretty unnecessary altogether.

Why does it even have to be part of the performance, where The Rock basically just berates another professional he works with for the pure entertainment value of the situation?

We might never know the purpose behind it. Hopefully, moving forward, this isn’t something he is just totally okay with and goes along with, maybe he could even speak up next time and suggest that they do something else for a funny skit.

He Likes To Play Up The Crowd

Maybe he just does this to play up the crowd because we’ve all seen how people act in these wrestling programs, but still, it’s a little bit too old school, and we’re not here for it, just like thousands of other people who are over this kind of attitude being directed towards women just for entertainment purposes. Maybe in the future, he could act more like himself, and he won’t have to worry about what people think. Personally, we believe he might be stuck in that theatrical world he grew his career in.

It just seems odd that a test about whether or not you’re rude to women is based on The Rock, but he still seems to not really follow along with it himself.

The Rock Test goes as follows, according to the online publication Medium, “It’s as clear-cut as this: Treat all women like you would treat Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson.” Maybe he could take this advice and ask himself if he would treat women like he does for entertainment if they were him. Maybe then he’ll realize the way he treats women when the camera is on him, and then he’ll second guess his ways and choose to act like a respectful person.

He Might Have The World Record Of Selfies

Did you know that The Rock actually has a world record for selfies? If you thought he had enough accomplishments, it, of course, wouldn’t be complete without a world record for most selfies taken, which he has accomplished. He apparently was on the red carpet for the premiere of San Andreas, and for him to be able to beat the world record, he had three minutes to take over 100 selfies. Why exactly did he want to accomplish this, we might never know the real answer, but whatever floats his boat!

According to a recent article from The Sportster, “The Rock just had to go and add a Guinness World Record to his staggering list of accomplishments by setting the Guinness World Record for the most selfies taken in three minutes while he was on the red carpet of the premiere for San Andreas."

"In order to accomplish this feat, he had to take 105 selfies in the allotted three minute period.” At least he didn’t upload them all to his Instagram at one time, because then he would be losing a ton of followers, after all, who would want to deal with that much of The Rock?

His Fans Might Be Getting Tired Of His Social Media Presence

No matter how famous someone is, we don’t really need to see a massive amount of selfies from anyone, it just doesn’t look right. It looks like someone just wants some attention and that’s all. Whether or not he’s just playing up this conceited persona to badger the fame around him, or he’s just really embracing this attitude he’s had for so many years, we really hope that he just accepts himself in the future, like a normal individual. Similar to what we mentioned before with social media, using a platform how you want to is fine, but we can't help noticing how he could be using his platform to make such a difference in the world around us.

He has so much attention always put on him, so it's a shame that he’s not using it in a way that could help others who want to have a voice too.

It has gotten better over the years but we're so sick of seeing that loud persona that he constantly pulls to seem so macho. Just drop it already! Overall, while it might not make him a bad person in how he uses his social media, does that really excuse him for not doing more? We don’t really think so.

His Baggage-Filled Past

There have been many cases in The Rock’s past where he was ridiculed because of his actions, especially when he was being theatrical in the ring. Whether or not he would trade off his personas for whatever was bringing him more attention, it should still be pointed out that he really does have some not-so-nice moments on TV that really don’t shine a great light on him, whatsoever. The Rock has also been very open in the past as well when it comes to his dealings with depression and other mental health issues, due to his career and his struggles growing up.

Daily Mail had this to say: “The 43-year-old talked about his past experiences with depression, noting, 'I found that with depression one of the most important things you could realize is that you're not alone.’” We can only hope that the wrestling and silver screen superstar can grow more into himself even at this age so he can open up more, instead of flopping between that outrageous persona and his real self. His fans deserve to know a more personal side of himself, especially with how long he’s been around in the industry, we want the truth, please.

He Has Made Some Major Career Career Slip-Ups

For example, there was a split up that many people caught onto back in ‘98 where he always acted like Rocky Maivia in the ring with his intricate persona, always being the one to win and having a great reputation. Suddenly, he changed his persona to a very loud, full of himself, and very confident version of himself. This is the same persona he has today, but the fact that it was changed like a switch, even though it’s TV, it made people feel so disconnected from him. Not to mention, he still plays up that persona after all of that for some reason.

In a video published by Daily Motion, from 11 years ago, it covers the situation around the Montreal Screwjob, the situation that caused the crowds to lose it when The Rock changed his persona in a snap. This was a pivotal moment because even though it shocked everyone, it was the first step to making everyone believe that he was an angel. He quickly became a fan favorite after this, even though he was just playing a brand new persona that everyone fell for. When will he finally drop the act and act himself, even after all these years?

He Has Gone Overboard In The Ring

There have been many instances where The Rock has shown that he will go overboard, even when on a TV program that encourages that behavior. But back in ‘99, The Rock went so overboard that he actually broke his opponent's jaw in the ring. It was a match that was always remembered and it didn’t really do any favors for The Rock’s persona or reputation. It made people afraid to even fight him in a theatrical way. Of course, it isn’t this extreme when looking at his career today, but even now, no one has forgotten about this issue in the past.

In a video from Entertainment Tonight, it was discussed that The Rock has had many additional moments recently even in his acting career that has highlighted how angry he can get, as well as how many feuds have been started because of him starting some sort of drama. In this case, an angry Instagram rant video he posted on his social media. Whether this was used to promote his movie, which wouldn’t be that much of a surprise, or it’s an actual feud between himself and other male co-stars, we might never know, but we do know that The Rock needs to take a chill pill!

He Seems To Lack Self-Control

While The Rock has shown, in many ways, that he has grown from his mistakes, his mistakes are all still right there for anyone to see, and it’s made a lot of people not exactly like him throughout his amazing and impressive career because it all seems to point to the fact that he has no self-control. While he didn’t seem to have much self-control in the past, it is interesting to see him still play that personality today, while also being much more professional at the same time. He somehow makes it work when so many others wouldn’t even be able to master that!

When you're a celeb who has so many eyes constantly watching everything you do, you need to really step up your game and your platform, instead of playing up your ego whenever you have the chance.

Whether it's online or in the ring, someone of his caliber really needs to get a grip on reality. Because in today’s society we’re not just living in a TV show. Who knows, he’s never seemed like a bad guy exactly, but he does seem to be stuck in a routine that doesn’t exactly look the greatest.

He Has Some Maturing To Do

Even though he has had some questionable matches in the ring, EVEN if they are just fake and all for entertainment value, it is a little bit frustrating to have that kind of influence glorified in today’s culture. To have so many people look up to him because he simply is strong and goes over the top when it comes to his goals in his career, it’s a bit too much. Of course, if it’s just all for entertainment value then that’s fine, but it’s still not a great example to set for anyone who idolizes him way too much.

The Rock has always shown off his macho abilities as early as we can all remember, but when he has to prove a point that’s already been proven, even when it involved someone else, it's just really not that cool.

The Rock always seemed to go a bit overboard when in the ring even when he didn’t need to, and it was just for entertainment, but now that he no longer focuses on that aspect of his career, he’s probably been able to mature a bit. Let's just hope he doesn't get in the ring any time soon with all this drama.

Some See Him As Insensitive

Twitter seems to show the worst in people, especially when he constantly makes fun of sensitive topics in today’s society that should just be left alone. Making fun of "butch" women and cracking jokes whenever he can about people he knows nothing about really doesn’t look that great for his overall career or even the example he’s setting for those who follow his every move. Hopefully, today, he can look back at old tweets and realize that maybe he needs to make some productive changes so he can be a better person.

Even Nerdist has concluded that The Rock might not be the nice guy everyone pictures him as today, at least not in the past: “For Rocky to achieve this massive success as a hero, he first had to live through being one of the most HATED characters on television.” Even back when he was known as Rocky Maivia, he was not so nice in his entertainment persona, while that has changed quite a great deal, we only wish he would realize that he doesn’t need to constantly pretend he’s someone he’s not. Just set the better example and be yourself dude, no one is going to make fun of you!

He Likes To Poke Fun At People

Making fun of people even when it’s just a “joke” is never really that cool. It’s totally fine to make jokes occasionally, but when you make fun of a group of people who are struggling in today’s society, and he doesn’t even have to think about that struggle because of where he is in his life and fame, it’s just a bit insensitive, to say the least. The Rock has a platform where he can really make a difference, and, while he has made huge changes in the world around us, maybe he can change just a bit more to make a bigger impact as well.

No matter how famous you really are, no matter how big your career is, making fun of people is never really that cool – ever!

We get it, jokes happen, that’s totally fine, but to always resort to making fun of groups of people that have nothing to do with you and you don’t even understand their struggle, just kind of makes you look rude and ignorant. Maybe moving forward, he’ll cut back on making comments like this in public and on his Twitter, and it will give him some much-needed perspective outside of his world that seems to be in his head.

He Wrote A Book About Himself

Have you ever wanted to write a book about yourself, while also talking in the third person? No? We didn’t think so! Not only is it a little bit selfish, but it overall is just a bit strange to see some guy want to write a whole bestseller about himself talking about his alter ego he’s become famous for. While it might be a great book, it does stick out as something that might lead people to believe that he’s a bit full of himself at the end of the day. According to Complex, who seem to be on The Rock’s side, they’ve dubbed this book on the same list as some other greatest hits:

“There are certain books that become defining texts. The Bible. Catcher In The Rye. 50 Shades Of Grey. And to this list, I believe we should add Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson’s 2000 autobiography, The Rock Says. Because come on, The Rock is one of the greatest people to have ever lived.”

We’re sure some people out there wouldn’t agree with this statement even if you paid them. Either way, no matter who he is today, it seems like he’s split his fanbase into two groups, haters, and hardcore fans!

The San Diego Aztecs Feud

There have been many feuds that have followed The Rock no matter how famous he is. While some have been his fault, others have not been, whatsoever. Back when The Rock was in college, apparently, he was hurt when playing football for his school, but he caused a fight between his school and the San Diego Aztecs. While there aren’t many details about the fight that occurred, it should say something that even before he was even close to being famous, he was in petty arguments and brawls that nobody ever asked for.

But The Rock isn’t above starting feuds, he’s been involved in a fair share now, including the most recent with Diesel, and he had this to say to Vanity Fair, “Vin and I had a few discussions, including an important face-to-face in my trailer,” Johnson tells the magazine. “And what I came to realize is that we have a fundamental difference in philosophies on how we approach moviemaking and collaborating. It took me some time, but I’m grateful for that clarity. Whether we work together again or not.” Maybe after so much fighting, he’ll finally take a step back and view the situation as a whole, since it really seemed to come out of nowhere!

He Talks In The Third Person Constantly

We mentioned this for a small moment above, the fact that The Rock constantly refers to himself as The Rock, and that he tends to talk in third person most of the time when he’s on TV and trying to entertain a crowd. But there comes a point in time where it’s just a bit annoying, and honestly, it is just getting old. It seems to just inflate his ego even further when that shouldn’t even be necessary at this point. When you constantly talk in the third person about yourself, it seems like he’s just full of himself.

Whether or not this is the case, it should be noted that it would possibly be a good career move if he just opened up a bit about his life, and who he really is as a person. No matter where he goes he always has the same upbeat loud attitude, and it seems like people are starting to just be over it— like he’s some kind of gimmick. When instead, he could be building his platform in an honest way, connecting with the people who he’s inspired throughout his career and moving forward. Maybe he would consider this if enough people told him!

His Questionable Entrance To WrestleMania

Specifically, his entrance to WrestleMania 32. The Rock had a very special flamethrower that he used to cause a huge scene and a reaction from the crowd, he then proceeded to light his name on fire and also announced that this was the biggest event ever for the show because of him. Overall, while the visuals were shocking, it was overall just a bit rude and annoying when it came down to it. He looked like he thought he was better than everyone and just left people with an awful taste in their mouth. It was also a bit awkward as well.

According to an article from Wrestling Inc, who talked to Steve Austin, “When asked what the most embarrassing thing Austin has seen The Rock doing, 'Stone Cold' said 'The Great One's WrestleMania 32 segment went on too long and The Rock should have known when to "go home." Talk about embarrassing! The segment was a bit too long and ended up making him seem really shallow, and it was just a long moment of cringing in silence as even the crowd seemed way too over it as well. If he ever returns to wrestling maybe he’ll take note from his peers.

His Feud With John Cena Outside Of The Ring

There was a huge rumor that surrounded the show’s 29th event. Apparently, The Rock and John Cena were actually having drama outside of the wrestling event, which caused many issues to become real in the entertainment aspect of the show. This never really made either of them look so good, especially since they were still growing their careers. There happened to be this huge feud between these two guys, which Bleacher Report seemed to sum up as “...what we as fans want. We want two guys who have a score to settle to get in the ring or the cage and duke it out until the better man is left standing. There’s no rocket science to how to get a rivalry started.”

It happened to be one of the biggest fights on the show, simply because these two were actually arguing in real life, not just for the entertainment aspect of the show where fighting is literally glorified and encouraged. Because of this fight between these two, many have suggested that The Rock wants nothing else to do with that side of his past career, maybe he’ll be a better person because of it too since he’ll be involved in less petty drama.

He Puts People On The Spot

Speaking of wrestling, there was also a moment back in ‘02 where The Rock happened to single out Stone Cold who was already his rival, but it completely ruined their bond of trust they had a few years ago. Who knows if this was real or fake, especially after the real-life drama The Rock was involved with that we mentioned above with John Cena. If one thing’s for sure, we’re just glad that The Rock doesn’t really mess with this petty drama anymore like he used to back in the early 2000's.

Whenever The Rock was put on the spot, just like in this old video published by YouTuber, Krillep, you can’t help but wonder if the trust he built off camera was all fake just so he could forward his career. It’s always hard to tell when someone is constantly in the spotlight, it really makes you wonder though if there was anything he could have done to avoid more drama that would translate even off the screen. Overall, The Rock seems to always butt heads with many people he works with, it seems to be quite the trend throughout many different times of his career, even in different industries.

He Rarely Shows Up To WWE Events Anymore

To make it worse, even though The Rock started his career with wrestling, he almost never shows up to those events anymore. Although we get it to some degree, we know he is a busy guy and he’s an actor now, but to not even have the time to visit what made you famous in the first place is a bit rude, to say the least. The Rock hasn't shown up in a while, and, while the videos they showed of him live always seemed funny and entertaining, it never really made people feel like he was even thankful for his roots, he just looked like he was too important to show up. Even though there are a ton of ways to make his persona entertaining even if he isn’t at an actual event, it does seem like maybe he should have put in more of an effort when it came to his past career and how that’s helped make him what he is today.

One thing that really is odd about The Rock is that he doesn’t seem to really care what people think, which is usually a good thing, but with this unique situation it’s a bit strange for someone to REALLY not act like they care if people even like him, since that’s his job and how he grows his career. Maybe this will all change in the future and we’ll see a more open guy, but the facts still remain.
