Check out this list of 20 little-known facts about Prince Harry's ex-girlfriend, Chelsy Davy!

Who Is Chelsy Davy?

When Prince Harry and Meghan Markle announced their engagement on November 27, 2017, there were multiple articles about the couple and their romance. While we got to know a lot more about the former actress, Meghan Markle, and her past. We also got to take a look at Prince Harry's past, and most especially, the numerous ladies he was with who could have potentially been the future Duchess of Sussex.

One woman that captured Prince Harry's eye way before Meghan was Chelsy Davy. The former couple dated for a whopping seven years, from 2004 to 2010, before they decided to part ways. Davy was born in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, to Charles Davy, a South African safari farmer, and Beverley Davy, who was Miss Rhodesia in 1973 and a former Coca-Cola model. Chelsy attended the prestigious private school, Cheltenham Ladies College, in England and later, attended the University of Cape Town, pursuing accountancy. In 2007, Davy decided to give up the sunny weather of South Africa and went back to England, enrolling in a two-year postgraduate politics degree at Leeds University. Friends of Davy's insisted that she wanted to pursue a career as a model; however, she was more dedicated to her books.

Her Family Owns A Huge Amount Of Land In Zimbabwe

Chelsy Davy's father, Charles Davy, is a Zimbabwean safari farmer and a millionaire who is said to own about 800,000 acres of land in the African country. Chelsy's father made his first fortunes from land and cattle, and in the early 2000's, he gained publicity with his company, HHK Safaris, the country's largest hunting and safari concession. There was plenty of controversy with Charles after he maintained business ties with controversial politician, Webster Shamu, however, he cut ties with him and sold whatever shares he had in the business.

According to She Knows, Prince Harry and Prince William's projects actually counter Davy's father's big game hunting business. "Prince William and Prince Harry have both thrown their time and energy behind conservation in Africa, including curbing big game hunting. Harry spent the summer in Namibia, South Africa, Tanzania, and Botswana working to protect rhinos and elephants from poachers. Along with Will and Kate, he started the United For Wildlife organization, whose mission is to curb the illegal wildlife trade." We feel like things might have been a bit awkward for Prince Harry when he met Chelsy's father.

How Did She Meet Prince Harry?

How does someone meet a prince? Chelsy Davy and Prince Harry reportedly met through mutual friends in 2004, while other reports claim that they met when they were both students at boarding school in England. Prince Harry and Chelsy Davy were first photographed together in December of that year. Davy regularly attended parties in London, parties at polo matches, and also did her post-graduate degree in law at Leeds University in England so that she could be closer to Harry.

However, before attending the school, the two did have a long-distance relationship for a time, with Prince Harry undergoing military training— first at Sandhurst and then, with the Blues and Royals— while Chelsy was in school at Cape Town University. But, the former couple was able to keep their romance alive with constant visits. "Chelsy and Harry are both earthy, physical people, but Chelsy is no doormat," a source said at the time they were dating, adding, "If she isn't happy, she will let you know, loudly. And I think Harry appreciates that." While there were plenty of rumors that the relationship was strained, Chelsy proved those tabloids wrong, visiting Prince Harry at his polo matches and even attending his Sandhurst graduation party.

She's One Smart Woman

As we mentioned before, Chelsy Davy worked hard in school, attending schools in both Cape Town and England. She studied at the University of Cape Town, in West Cape province, South Africa, between 2003-2006. Davy earned her bachelor's degree in commerce, studying politics, philosophy, and economics. After she graduated, Davy went on to study law at the University of Leeds in West Yorkshire, earning a bachelor of law degree. In 2009, Davy took a position at Allen and Overy, a law firm that once advised Edward VIII during his abdication.

During her time with the law firm, Daily Mail reported that the company did not approve of the "skimpy" clothing its trainees were wearing. "We've been asked to draw your attention to the fact that HR has received numerous complaints about the way female trainees have been dressing around the office," the statement read. "The main problem seems to be very short skirts and high heels and generally looking like we're going clubbing instead of the office," the Daily Mail stated. However, Davy ended up leaving the law practice and instead, launched her own jewelry line years later called AYA, where she takes inspiration from her African roots.

Many People Thought Chelsy Was On Her Way To Become A Model

While the blonde beauty was working on her law degree, many people believed she was actually going to pursue a career in modeling. With her slender figure and height, Chelsy could have easily landed plenty of jobs as a model, however, she had her mind set on getting her education and pursuing a career in law. During an interview with Country and Town House, Davy admitted that she wanted to be a lawyer at a young age.

"I wanted to be a lawyer from a young age. I think it was when I was about nine years old and saw A Few Good Men that my fate was sealed. I followed those ambitions and qualified as a solicitor at Allen & Overy. I enjoyed the challenge and really appreciated the opportunity to work with some brilliant legal minds. It also made me fully aware of the capacity we have when we push ourselves to the limit (and how little sleep we can survive on!)," Davy said. When asked what she spent her first paycheck on, Davy cleverly said, "a very big drink." In a Times interview, when Chelsy was asked if she ever considered being a model, she said, "that's a terrible fiction."

Her Off-And-On Again Relationship With Prince Harry

Chelsy Davy and Prince Harry were off-and-on again during their seven-year relationship. According to Daily Mail, the former couple started dating in 2004 and had what the website called a "turbulent romance." Because of Chelsy's schooling at the University of Cape Town, and Prince Harry undergoing army training, it was hard for the duo to see one another. However, the pair's path's crossed again when he was traveling to her native country Zimbabwe, prior to his military career.

"In a letter home to a former school friend, Harry wrote that Chelsy was 'the love of my life - this one's unreal.' Announcing on his 21st birthday in 2005 that she was officially his girlfriend, Harry made the only public comment he has ever given about her, saying: 'I would love to tell everyone how amazing she is. But you know, that is my private life,'" a report read. However, the pair, being known for their on-again, off-again relationship split up in 2007 but rekindled and then split again in 2009, with Davy even confirming it on her Facebook page. "Her online profile was altered to say: 'Relationship status: Not in one,'" reported The Telegraph. Chelsy admitted that she faced a lot of pressure dating a royal.

The Media Only Focused On Her Party-Girl Antics

Once everyone found out that Zimbabwean national, Chelsy Davy, was dating Prince Harry, the gossip magazines, tabloids and paparazzi were in a frenzy to call out Davy as a party girl. Instead of focusing on Davy's career or that she worked hard on becoming a lawyer, the media focused on the number of times the blonde beauty was spotted going out on the town.

With all the rumors giving Davy a bad name, she defended herself, stating, "I have never worked so hard in my life. I didn't realize how little sleep you can survive on. Back-to-back deals, working till 4 a.m., conference at eight. We wouldn't go home, just sleep in the office," she told The Times, adding, "I like to enjoy life but I like to achieve things and am very ambitious. They [the public] can be forgiven for not knowing I was working really hard, I didn't shout about it. If you go out once, they take a picture, but not of you going to work every morning, it's of you falling out of a nightclub at 4 a.m." Davy admitted that she finally decided to break her silence after she decided to quit law and pursue her dreams of making her own jewelry line.

Chelsy Was Once Held At Gunpoint And Spent Her Childhood With Wild Animals

Believe it or not, Chelsy Davy revealed that she was once held at gunpoint when she was a student in South Africa in 2006. Davy shared that she was at a bar in Cape Town with friends where she was celebrating having finished her dissertations when a gunman walked up to them and pointed his gun at her head. "One put a gun to my head," Davy told The Times, adding, "They frog-marched us into the kitchen, made us all lie down, patted us down for valuables, said, 'The first person to look up we're going to shoot.' I was holding my friend's hand, we were both shaking.'"

It was definitely a terrifying moment for Chelsy, but thankfully, she didn't get hurt. Davy is no ordinary girl. There have also been times where Chelsy shared that monkeys stole her crayons when she was a little girl. Growing up on a farm in Zimbabwe where she was surrounded by animals like giraffes, lions, and monkeys, she recalled a time when monkeys would steal her things. "At my preschool, there were monkeys everywhere stealing your crayons." She also added that she would casually hang out with her orphaned pet hyena, and once a "very dangerous" boomslang snake, which fell on her head.

She Despises Being In The Spotlight

Chelsy Davy is not a fan of being in the spotlight. The constant rumors about her and her relationship with Prince Harry put a lot of pressure on her. Chelsy soon learned that she had absolutely no privacy when it came to dating a royal. In an interview, Davy described being chased down by the paparazzi during her romantic relationship with Prince Harry as "crazy and scary uncomfortable."

"I found it very difficult when it was bad," she told The Times, adding, “I couldn't cope. I was young, I was trying to be a normal kid and it was horrible." Now that it's been a few years since she dated Prince Harry, Davy admitted that her life is now "calm, now it's fine." According to OK! Magazine, when Davy and Prince Harry called it quits for good, she retreated back to Zimbabwe because she couldn't deal with all the headlines and cruel gossip.

"It was nuts," Davy said in her interview, adding, "That's also why I wanted to go back to South Africa." Chelsy did not grow up in the spotlight, even though her parents are extremely successful. From being privately educated in her native Zimbabwe and attending boarding school in England, before heading to college, her life was turned upside down when she and Prince Harry started to date.

She Might Not Have Enjoyed Being A Duchess

When Meghan Markle got engaged to Prince Harry in November 2017, her entire life changed. Markle had to give up her career as a Hollywood actress, which meant saying goodbye to Suits, removing her social media pages, and deleting her lifestyle blog, The Tig. Markle even had to make the sacrifice of having to follow certain fashion rules now that she is the Duchess of Sussex. "Avoiding black, sticking to bright colors, leaving pants by the wayside, and favoring specific designers over other," InStyle wrote.

These moves made by Markle were a sign of her increased commitment to royal life. According to an article by SheKnows, Chelsy Davy was not a huge fan of living the royal life and giving up some of the things she worked so hard for. "One bone of contention is her relationship with Harry is what she will have to give up if the two wed— namely, a huge chunk of her privacy and her right to her own interests. She already has plenty of money and she enjoys something that the Duchess of Cambridge never will again: relative anonymity and the ability to go where she wants when she wants and do exactly and only what she wants. That would be impossible if she were to devote her life to royal service - a must if she were to marry Harry."

Attending Prince William And Kate Middleton's Royal Wedding Made Her Question If She Wanted To Be A Royal

It's possible that Chelsy Davy broke things off with Prince Harry because she did not want to follow royal orders. It's not easy changing your entire life around to become a duchess, so we don't blame Davy for wanting to do her own thing. Even after she and Prince Harry broke up, Chelsy was still invited to Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding on April 29, 2011. It's reported that after the split, Davy and Prince Harry remained on good terms, and she remains good friends with people in the royal circle.

After her appearance at the wedding, it was reported that Davy and Harry rekindled their romance, but the Prince cleared that up right away, insisting he was "100 percent single." But it appeared that Davy was certainly not into the whole being a royal thing. According to Daily Mail, she told her friends, "it's not a life for me." It was also reported that Prince Harry even brought up the possibility of marriage to her, but she would quickly shoot it down."

"She has watched what Kate has gone through and how much she has had to sacrifice and says it's not for her. Chelsy thought the wedding was wonderful, and she had a ball, but there's no way marriage is on the cards for her. She wants her freedom and to start a career. That's her focus at the moment, she and Harry are going to see how things go." Well, we clearly saw how the two ended up.

She's A Big Social Media Fan

If you're interested in knowing a little bit more about Chelsy Davy's personal life, you can just head to her Instagram page, where you'll find photos of her traveling the world, back home in South Africa, and hanging out with friends and family. Looking at her Instagram, Davy seems like she's living a great life after dating Prince Harry, with one picture of her showcasing her Aya jewelry line in Austin, Texas, and a number of photos showcasing beautiful Cape Town and traveling to gorgeous beaches all over Europe.

Chelsy is extremely adventurous and if she was the Duchess of Sussex, she would not be doing half the things she is doing now, like casually flying a helicopter and playing a game of croquet among wild elephants. We have to say, even though she missed the chance at being a royal, it looks like Davy is living a pretty good life. Now that Meghan Markle is the Duchess of Sussex, having a social media account like Instagram is definitely a no go. While we'd love to see what Markle does now that she's a royal, it's clearly forbidden. What other media platform does Davy also like? She did use her Facebook to change her relationship status to "single" after she and Prince Harry split.

She Was Rumored To Be Engaged To A Long-Time Boyfriend

Prince Harry was once rumored to say that Chelsy Davy was the love of his life, but when they split, Chelsy Davy was ready to move on. The former lawyer was reportedly engaged to her longtime boyfriend, Charles Goode, back in 2014. The two are no longer together, but it seemed like Goode was going to be the one for Davy at the time. According to Vanity Fair, the duo was out enjoying a romantic holiday in Africa, traveling through Zambia, Mozambique, and Malawi, and participating in activities like fishing, and going on a safari. Goode and Davy also hiked Mount Mulanje, were Davy's friends believed that Goode had popped the question.

"Chelsy and Charles are very serious and we are all expecting a wedding to happen soon," a friend told Vanity Fair. At the time, Prince Harry was going through another breakup, ending his relationship with Cressida Bonas. Davy and Goode were together for over a year but decided to break things off amicably. "Chelsy and Charles broke up. It's sad but it was all very amicable. As with any relationship in the public eye they were under a lot of pressure. It just didn't work out," The Daily Star reported. However, both Chelsy and Charles moved on and look happier than ever.

She And Prince Harry Reportedly Talked On The Phone Before He Said "I Do"

Before Prince Harry became a married man to Meghan Markle, it was reported that he had a final emotional phone call with Chelsy Davy. After the two broke up, they remained friends, but apparently, they both needed to exchange some words before Prince Harry's big day. According to a source for Vanity Fair, "It was their final call, a parting call, in which they both acknowledged Harry was moving on. Chelsy was quite emotional about it all; she was in tears and almost didn't go to the wedding. In the end, she went [to the ceremony] and promised Harry she wouldn't try and gatecrash the party."

Even though he and Davy dated on and off for seven years, his relationship with Markle is totally different. "Even with Chelsy, Harry didn't feel this kind of spark. And they were together for years! Harry just knew immediately, from the moment he spent time with Meghan, that he wanted to be with her. It's a simple case of meeting the right girl at the right time," the source also said. From the looks of Chelsy's face during the ceremony, she didn't look too happy and even looked a bit uncomfortable being there.

She Was Invited To Prince Harry And Meghan Markle's Royal Wedding And So Was Another Ex-Girlfriend

To many people's surprise, Prince Harry invited both Chelsy Davy and his other ex-girlfriend, Cressida Bonas, to his wedding. When Davy was invited to Prince William and Kate Middleton's wedding, she and Prince Harry were no longer together, however, she reportedly helped him write his best man speech at the reception "because she has a better memory of their nights out." However, that wasn't the case this time around, she and Harry's other ex-girlfriend, Cressida Bonas, who he dated for two years from 2012 until 2014, both arrived at his wedding in May, but they were not invited to the reception, which only had around 200 guests.

Apparently, both of his ex-girlfriends remain friends with Prince Harry. It is definitely not something many people do when getting married, however, they've accepted that they are all just good friends. "The two have remained friends long after ending their relationship and still keep in touch to this day," Us Weekly reported about the relationship between Chelsy and Prince Harry, adding, "She congratulated him the minute the engagement news was announced. Meghan would have no problem with her being there and Chelsy was on the preliminary list of friends to invite."

Chelsy And Prince Harry's Other Ex-Girlfriend, Cressida Bonas, Are Good Friends

Chelsy Davy and Cressida Bonas made headlines when the two former girlfriends of Prince Harry were spotted hanging out with one another at a Serpentine Summer party in Kensington Gardens in 2016. The pair was all smiles and giggles, and even clasping hands at one point. Were they sharing stories of their time with Prince Harry? We'll probably never know what they were talking about, but it's reported that the two women becoming friends is Prince Harry's "worst nightmare."

"They have become increasingly good friends because they have so much in common," a mutual friend told Daily Mail. "They love a party, the dance floor, and a giggle," the source added. Another close friend revealed, "I think their friendship will be a warm one. Because in the end, there are very few people with whom one can discuss the unique experience of having been a royal girlfriend." Both women are still in contact with Prince Harry, but it appears that their friendship may be a lot closer than Harry might realize.

She Was Snubbed From Attending The Royal Reception

Even though Chelsy Davy received a royal invite to Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's wedding, she was not invited to the 200-guest reception after the wedding. Not many ex-girlfriends would expect to be invited to their former flame's wedding, but because they are good friends, have a long history, and run in the same circle, Prince Harry kindly invited Davy to the ceremony part.

"Chelsy has been telling everyone she has been invited to the wedding and she is shopping for the perfect gown. She wants to look her very best and has been given a plus one, but she has said she has not been invited to the evening party," a source told Grazia magazine. It was revealed that Davy was "shocked" that she wasn't invited to the reception at Frogmore House.

"Chelsy is the queen of nighttime parties. She's wild and fun, and no evening bash is really complete without her, so friends are surprised she hasn't been invited. Chelsy is surprised too, shocked in fact, and a little hurt," reported Daily Mail. However, ever since their breakup in 2010, the former couple's relationship has been strictly friendly. It could have also been Markle who suggested not to have invited Davy to the reception. Prince Harry's other ex-girlfriend, Cressida Bonas, was also not invited to the reception.

Her Gloomy Expression At The Wedding Had Social Media Buzzing

You couldn't help but cringe when the camera at the royal wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle panned over his ex-girlfriend, Chelsy Davy. While she looked joyful and in good spirits when she arrived at the ceremony, people couldn't help but notice how gloomy she appeared at the wedding itself. Twitter users took the opportunity to point out that Davy looked uncomfortable at the wedding, tweeting things like, "Prince Harry's ex-girlfriend at the #RoyalWedding is a picture #itshouldhavebeenme."

A second Twitter user jokingly tweeted, "Don't wanna panic you all but I think Chelsy Davy might object." Twitter users weren't done bashing on Davy, using gifs and even a photo of a woman in a black veil over her head, with the caption, "Going to your ex's wedding like 'honestly I'm fine, I'm fine," while another person wrote, "The face you make when it hits you that you are at your ex's wedding."

The jokes came rolling in when fans of the royals saw how awkward Chelsy appeared while watching her ex-boyfriend say his "I Do's" to another woman. However, while some people thought it was very strange for Harry to invite his ex-girlfriends to his wedding, others believed it was an example of the friendship and maturity the Prince and his exes have for one another.

Chelsy Is Currently Dating James Marshall

So who is Chelsy Davy dating now? The jewelry designer is currently dating James Marshall, a TV producer, who seems to have captured Davy's heart. Paparazzi spotted the two having lunch in London and showing massive PDA— kissing one another, holding hands, giggling, and toying with a ring, as they enjoyed their lunch. Chelsy's mind seems to be very far away from her ex, Prince Harry, whose wedding she attended just a week ago, since this photo of her and her beau were taken.

For someone who lived a very private life and isn't a fan of the spotlight, Chelsy had no problem kissing Marshall and showing him major affection. She looked cool and casual from her look at the royal wedding, wearing a short floral skirt, pale pink cami, denim jacket, and sneakers. Her look is definitely something she wouldn't be allowed to wear if she were the Duchess of Sussex. And all that public display of affection would also cause a media frenzy if she did marry the Prince. So how did Marshall and Davy meet? According to the Daily Mail, Meghan Markle may have had something to do with bringing the two together. Meghan is apparently a good friend of the TV producer and his ex-wife, Elettra.

She's Busy With Her Jewelry Line, AYA

The former lawyer decided to choose a totally different career path when she launched her own jewelry line called AYA. The ethical line of jewelry is inspired by her native homeland and its cultures and traditions. Her jewelry line offers rings, earrings, necklaces, and bracelets that feature colorful gemstones, which come from Africa.

When she was asked about her inspiration for her line, Davy said, "Africa has always been an integral part of my life and will always be my home. It is an absolutely fascinating continent and I was inspired by its rich culture and the bold and vibrant nature of African design."

According to Hello! Magazine, Chelsy studied at the Gemological Institute of America to learn more about the stones she was going to use in her pieces. "I wanted to do something a little different and showcase these beautiful colored gemstones in modern and contemporary designs," Davy said, adding, "The gemstones in the pieces are so magnificent on their own that they don't need diamonds. After studying colored gems at GIA, I am now obsessed with all the different gemstones out there and would love to work with gemstones from all over Africa."
