Celeb mongers love it when two stars start dating and they are soon called Hollywood’s best- looking couple. Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie used to be the anointed one, but now that their messy split is splashed all over gossip rags and blogs, they have fallen off the “hottest” couple look.
Still rocking it are Jay-Z and Beyonce, as well as Mila Kunis and Ashton Kutcher. But to this day, and ever since they started dating each other back in 2014, Sofia Vergara and Joe Manganiello have made list after list being called Hollywood’s best-looking couple. The only couple who can beat them is Ryan Reynolds and Blake Lively, but while Reynolds has some serious abs and Lively in thin and lithe, the pair cannot even compare themselves to the Columbian beauty with curves to die for and her Italian stallion husband with a muscular but toned body.
Being on Hollywood’s radar since the beginning, it’s easy to see why. They are down to earth, and drop dead gorgeous. When have we last seen such a fit couple? They can dress up or dress down, high fashion red carpet looks to amazing street style looks. They never fail to impress us.
So how did they get to become the best looking star couple in the world? One word: fitness.
Joe Maganiello is a gym rat who works out six days a week and uses weights to maintain his muscles, and cardio paired with a healthy low-carb meal plan to maintain his abs. Meanwhile, Vergara uses the Megaformer machine to stay in shape and has made a ton of money from endorsements. It’s not bad, considering how good she looks whether she’s selling Diet Pepsi or hawking the Ninja Coffee Bar.

15. Joe Manganiello’s Philosophy
Most actors who have to go shirtless for a movie will probably start training 3-4 months before shooting. They will hire a personal trainer and a nutritionist when they shed their clothes onscreen, and you will see the work of someone who has dedicated himself to stay physically fit. Jake Gyllenhaal packed on muscle for Prince of Persia. Christian Bale went lean but muscled for American Psycho. There are of course more, but the point is, these actors will often shed their muscle after filming and, without a personal trainer at their side, let’s just say they won’t be going shirtless anytime soon.
Joe Manganiello doesn’t play that game. For every film or TV show, he’s been adamant in staying healthy, as well as ripped and muscular. Between films, he doesn’t cheat or stop going to the gym. He makes it his personal mission to stay athletic every day, no matter where he is or what he’s doing.
14. True Blood – The Remaking of Joe Manganiello
Many years after his debut in Hollywood starring in the 2002 Spider-Man reboot, Manganiello was doing construction to pay the bills and that was when he fell into the gym culture because he liked the feel of his muscles burning. But he didn’t look like how he does now. When he landed the coveted role of playing Alcide, a werewolf in the guilty-pleasure HBO series True Blood, that was when he upped his workouts. The first thing he did was hire a personal trainer.
He’s not coy about the way he got hired.
He had the right bod and the folks behind the show needed him to be shirtless in several scenes, as was customary on the show: the less clothes you have on, the more people tune in to watch.
13. Joe Manganiello Was Doing It All Wrong At The Gym When True Blood First Started
Manganiello quickly became known for his muscles during the span of True Blood (2010 until 2014) and was added to the main cast starting in season three. To play a half-animal, Manganiello ate like a caveman, with lots of lean protein and a meal plan that included a lot of vegetables.
He put himself through the ringer in the gym to embody the beast he was supposed to be, and called his routine as being full of “sheer pain.”
So to play the beast, he had to work out like a beast—a wolfman who was quick and agile, as well as very powerful. For the role, Joe took this to mean that he should be incredibly muscular and started picking up his old routine of lifting heavy weights and focusing a lot on refuelling his muscles by eating many healthy calories every few hours. His goal was to get as large as possible, but he was eating so much that his abs didn’t appear shredded and made him look more fat than muscular.
12. True Blood – The Joe Manganiello Workout
After realizing he wasn’t as cut as he should be, Manganiello had to reshape his body while filming True Blood. He was now looking to lean down at the same time he wanted to maintain his muscular fit. He lowered how much he ate while on the True Blood set and added cardio to his regime. He ran each morning to burn excess fat.
To get this lean physique, he worked his upper body by lifting the larger parts of his body. This means he did bench presses, pull-ups and close-grip pushups. For his lower body, he did moves like squats and dumbbell lunges. For those who go to the gym to build muscle and stay lean at the same time, they know that incorporating muscle-upping your legs as being the fastest way to get ripped as it is such a large group muscle that is always ready to burn fat.
Before he started building lean muscle for True Blood, he weighed 240 pounds. A lot of that was pure muscle, but he did have 18% body-fat. Joe got rid of his body fat by working out twice a day for three days with a trainer, and the next three days he worked out on his own. The goal was to keep his body from rest, because the less you do, the leaner you’ll become.
11. Evolution – The Book Explained
Manganiello’s workout book, Evolution: The Cutting Edge Guide to Breaking Down Mental Walls and Building the Body You’ve Always Wanted, appeared in December 3, 2013. Published after Magic Mike, the famed director of the movie, Steven Soderbergh, gave Joe the ultimate compliment, calling him a “walking CGI.” But working out during Magic Mike was hard. He told Men’s Health:
“We [the cast] spent a fortnight doing thousands of push-ups, thousands of curls, thousands of lat raises. We basically spent every day working out for two weeks in a row.”
His workout routine for Magic Mike was the inspiration of his book. Evolution isolates each body part and after each set, you rest for a minute. This high-paced workout means you need to move fast from one set to the next.
Each day is focused towards a different part of your body. Squeezed between the muscle workout is cardio. There’s 45 minutes of low-to-medium cardio (on an empty stomach, Joe suggests) before weights and 20 minutes of low-medium cardio for at the end. This is the key to getting really defined abs. Cardio helps to melt your excess body fat.
As you start to see results, you should limit your rest breaks to 50 seconds or less, which will help burn through your metabolism. Before these exercises, there is a warm-up that you should do as well to get your blood flowing.
10. Joe Manganiello Says Doing Cardio Is The Best Way To Flatten Your Abs
Joe Manganiello thinks that a lot of people who work out and don’t have six-packs is because they’re doing something wrong. In addition to weightlifting, both eating right and cardio is the key to success.
As Manganiello told Popworkouts,
“I’m a living testament that once you get to the top, you have to keep going and keep fighting to grow. Because, the only way to coast. . . is down.”
But first, you need to weight-lift the right way if you ever want to grow. You should always start with high weights, and then you drop weight and up the reps before you drop even more weight while upping the reps again. By ending with a lot of reps (from starting with the heaviest weights you can lift), you will see more definition and feel better than ever. To get a six-pack, Manganiello swears by never skipping cardio, especially in the early morning when your stomach is empty because that’s the best time to burn fat.
9. Joe Manganiello’s Evolution – Magic Mike Food Plan
Manganiello always eats lean meats, healthy fats and, for low carbs, veggies. One of his favorite low carbs is eating a lot of sweat potatoes for slow-releasing energy, and he swears that consuming it works. You may find your healthy carbs in another food, but you can’t skip them altogether, as it has to be incorporated into your food plans to sustain your energy while exercising.
According to his book, you can eat a protein bar of piece of fruit for a pre-workout, have a protein shake for a post-workout, and for lunch, egg whites, sausage, sautéed veggies and a cup of coffee for a quick pick-me-up. Dinner is either chicken breast or steak, but whichever you choose, you should have a side plate of some vegetables.
For protein, these are the foods he eats: steak, chicken, bacon, sausage, eggs, egg whites and greek yogurt. For carbs, Joe eats a lot of sweet potatoes, as well as yams, cucumbers, bell peppers, spinach, carrots and berries or apples. For fat, he includes peanut butter, pistachios, almonds, cashews and coconut oil.
8. Joe Manganiello Supplements
Here are a few supplements that Manganiello swears by. He drinks a few cups of coffee before a workout for some added energy.
He swears in creatine, which builds lean muscle. The brand he uses is Kre-Alkalyn. He also uses whey protein during a post-workout or throughout the day. This should be a key supplement to your workout and eating, as the protein absorbs faster into your bloodstream. The brand he uses is Isopure whey protein. At night, he uses 10 grams of Glutamine to aid in muscle recovery while he sleeps.
7. The All-Important Cheat Meal That Both Husband and Wife Abide By
Once a week, it’s good to have a day with food that’s enjoyable and a little heavy on calories. This is a cheat meal, and Manganiello can’t stress enough how important it is. The cheat meal serves two purposes: it maintains your sanity, and second, it gives you something to look forward to.
As his wife knows, cheating once or twice a week is also actually proven to boost your metabolism and can work to lose more weight overall. Some Manganiello cheat meals include fried chicken, waffles, mac and cheese, and French fries, among others.
Vergara takes a page from her husband’s playbook. You may not know this because she has a tight upper body and a tiny waist, but Vergara turns to sweets and other goodies over the weekend. While Manganiello looks to comfort food like chicken with waffles on either Saturday or Sunday, Vergara has dessert and ice cream on the weekends.
Vergara says she tries to control her cravings during the week, but doesn’t beat herself up if she’s tempted to splurge on a chocolate cake for dessert.
Colombian women, she said, “are comfortable with their curves.”
But having a cheat date turns out to be very important when you’re on a strict meal plan during the week. Personal trainer, Jennifer Yates, said, “I train my clients that there should never be guilty with pleasure.” Just don’t go overboard. Have a cupcake, not three or four, and have one slice of pizza, not the entire pie. Yates added, “Deprivation makes you go over the edge and you just obsess about something you want. Having balance is very important. Eat clean for five to six days and then indulge on the weekend. It’s all about balance.”

As her trainer, Jennifer Yates, the founder of Studio Metamorphosis, told People,
“Recently we’ve been combining some of the heavier weights for the lower body because she’s trying to put a little more mass on, so we’ve been doing a lot of work with kettle bells. She’s really strong!”
A big part of how Sofia Vergara stays fit is by working out her lower body. She wants to be strong, and also wants to put a little more muscle mass on her thighs and legs. Thus, she does a lot of deadlifts and squats which, if you don’t know, are exercises designed to give muscle tone at the same time that they burn calories, what with how large the muscles are on your lower body.

Sofia’s trainer, says that the talented actress has succumbed to exercise using the Lagree method in her ongoing effort to make her body more streamlined and sleek. Apparently, it works because it’s now a Hollywood craze. Celebs like Kim Kardashian and Former First Lady Michelle Obama swear by the Lagree Fitness method, which is often called “Plates on steroids.”
To do Lagree Fitness properly, you need a Megaformer machine, which has springs, straps and pulleys for strength training and pilate-like moves. For many trainers, using the machine will definitely transform your body. It’s the only workout that “effectively combines strength, endurance, cardio, balance, core, and flexibility training, not only in one session but in each and every move,” according to Amanda Freeman, the CEO and founder of SLT.
The benefits of using the machine is that it increases heart rate and it hits every muscle in your body, causing them to become lithe and toned.
Combining the high-intensity moves of weightlifting and with cardio like running, the full-body workout is so efficient that you don’t have to do it five or six days a week. In just three sessions every week, you’ll see definition. Vargara’s home gym, designed by her husband, includes a Megaformer machine. As Vargara told InStyle: “I work out at home because that’s the only way to really not have an excuse. . .I can’t say ‘Oh, it’s too far away. Oh, it’s raining.’ Now I do it at home.”
4. Sofia Vergara Lifts Weights Like Her Husband
The 45-year-old Vergara knows that as you get older, you often lose muscle mass and your body shrinks. But Vergara won’t have that. It’s a requirement on her show Modern Family that she needs to be toned, with a gym-body and some body-hugging clothes that has helped make her one of the most memorable celebrities in Hollywood. So these days, in addition to training on the Megaformer, she has started to lift weights. To explain that workout, Vergara told The LA Times last year,
“I’m 44…it’s important now to build muscle.” She added, “Things start to change, and I’m like, the only thing to do is go and take care of it.”
But unlike Manganiello, who works out seven days a week, Vergara is less strict and gives herself a break on the weekends. But, in another way, she’s exactly like her hunky husband, as she makes time to work out while on vacation, taking strength-training devices like weights and resistance bands with her.

2. Sofia Vergara Is Fine With Taking Days Off
In a typical week, when work isn’t so hectic, Vergara, as we mentioned, works out five days a week and gives herself the weekend to rest. But while Vergara looks other worldly and has a beautiful body that any woman would kill for, she, too, is human, and has to take a lot of time off when she’s busy.
According to Vergara’s personal trainer, Jennifer Yates, you shouldn’t feel stressed out or guilty if you haven’t found time in the day to do some squats and lunges. As Yates told Marie Claire,

1. Sofia Vergara’s Meals
In order to get your body in shape, 80 percent of it has to do with what you are intaking in concerns of food. You should always eat some protein within 45 minutes after working out to let your muscles recover and repair. You should also drink lots of water, which keeps your body hydrated. For those who want to have the sculpted curves that Sofia has, you should cut down on foods that force your body to retain water. Salt is a big no-no, as are wheat, pastas, potatoes and rice.
Like her husband, Sofia eats lean meats like chicken with some vegetables. But unlike him, while she likes to eat healthy, she hates dieting and is known among the Modern Family cast and crew as someone who won’t think twice about eating a cupcake. Her biggest weakness is her love for sweets. She told Popsugar,
“My problem always has been my obsession with sweets. One of my biggest secrets is that I’m always trying to figure out how to get away with trying to eat something sweet after a meal or before going to bed.”
But when she’s on a food plan, she told Glamour that she likes to eat something filling in the morning. “One of my favorites is a kind of homemade muesli made of Greek yogurt, oats, chia seeds, nuts, and blueberries.” In addition, she told Fox News that balance is key. “Not too much food, not too much exercise, not too much anything. Everything in moderation.” Good thing, along with sweets, she loves veggies and other healthy foods like almonds, as well as juices.
