Elsa Pataky is the kind of actress and celebrity wife that wants to get noticed. At least, that’s what it looks like from the outside. There is no magazine interview that she won’t say no to and there is certainly no red carpet that she won’t pose on. After all, her husband is one of the biggest A-list actors in the entertainment industry: Chris Hemsworth. He’s got the kind of star power that other actors can only dream of.

With that being said, you would think that Elsa would be at the same level of fame as her husband but unfortunately, that hasn’t happened yet. Even though Elsa has been supporting her man throughout the years as Mrs. Chris Hemsworth, no one has really given her the attention that she at least thinks that she deserves. Instead, Elsa ends up on the front page of gossip and tabloid blogs and magazines. Why? Because a lot of her critics know that she wants the same stardom, the same popularity and definitely the same success as her husband. And it seems like at this point, she is willing to do just about anything to achieve it. Yet, Hollywood doesn’t seem to be paying much attention. Here’s why.

She’s Too Needy

You would think that Elsa Pataky would have become a huge star in her own right by now, but unfortunately that just hasn’t happened. Even though Elsa has A-list name recognition in her native Spain, it’s not the same for her in Hollywood, or even Australia, for that matter. She’s just known as Thor’s wife, so to speak. And for someone like Elsa, that has to be incredibly frustrating. She doesn’t want to wait for something to happen, she wants it all to happen by now.

According to the Daily Mail, one source close to the situation had this to say: “Elsa is a huge star in Spain, so it’s a bit insulting for her to now be known as just Mrs Chris Hemsworth. If they lived in Spain it’d be a different story, Chris would be known as her hubby. Since they’ve settled in his homeland, she’s been lumped with this tag.”

She once told Stellar Magazine, "We live in Australia and I want to do things here and start working and for people to know me a little bit more than as Chris’ wife.”

She Relies Too Much On Chris Hemsworth

Let’s face it: if it weren’t for Chris Hemsworth, chances are that we wouldn’t be talking or even writing about Elsa Pataky right now. A lot of people in the entertainment industry know her simply because she’s Chris’ wife and that she almost always takes the opportunity to pose in front of a camera with him.

Also, many critics have noticed that Elsa loves to talk about her marriage and what goes on behind closed doors between her and Chris. Some moments are good, some moments are bad.

It’s without a doubt that she definitely relies a lot on her husband so much so that even she knows people would forget about her if it weren’t for him.

Speaking about their workout routine, she told the Daily Mail, “He’ll hold the pads for me, although I won’t for him as he’d smash me into the wall. When he was training for Thor, he came home with this body fat measurer – you know, where you clip the parts where you accumulate fat? So it became a competition between us. If I had some fat somewhere I’d be like, “Grr, I’m working that part.” It’s fun, it’s just like a challenge, for no other reason that I like to challenge myself.”

Their Marriage And Rumors

Like we mentioned before, every marriage has its up and downs, and it’s especially hard to keep things together if you just happen to be in the public spotlight, too. And that seems to be the case for Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky. They’ve made it no secret that they’ve had some troubling times, mostly because they have different visions for their future. Elsa wants to be where all the action is and specifically in Hollywood, while Chris wants his family to stay put in Australia.

Chris wants his children to experience the same kind of upbringing that he once had, regardless of how much Elsa would rather live somewhere else.

"In the beginning it was beautiful — when I met him he wasn't known at all and I grew with him and experienced all his successes and changes, and then he became just so huge and I've been sharing that too," she told Vogue Magazine. "Going through every moment and being there with him with every success was actually a good thing — we grew together. It's difficult when you go from being an unknown person to a very known person and all the changes that come with that."

She’s Honest About Their Problems

We’ve got to give credit where credit is due. While a lot of different celebrities want their fans to think that their lives are perfect, Elsa Pataky makes it pretty clear that’s not the case between her and Chris. Compared to other celebrity wives, she’s very honest about the everyday problems that Chris and Elsa face in their marriage. Some days are definitely better than others but one thing is for certain: neither one of them are willing to give up. At least, not at the moment. They want to make their marriage work for the sake of their three small kids. Also, both Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky know that their careers would definitely take a hit should they ever separate.

She told Vogue Magazine, “We did everything very quickly — I don't know how we survived as a couple. We were married and then a year after we had kids. I think our years together have been great. Every marriage has ups and downs — it's constant work to be in a successful marriage and stay together forever. Chris' parents have been together all their lives, and that's such a beautiful thing, and their families are so close."

She Wanted To Be A Reality Star

Several years ago there were media reports that suggested Elsa Pataky was desperate to clinch a spot on the Bravo reality television show, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. For someone like Elsa, it would be her opportunity to shine in the spotlight. But Chris Hemsworth was not having it. No way did he wants his wife to appear on a trashy reality television show and worse, air all of their dirty laundry for the world to see. That’s why he packed his bags and moved his family as far away as he could from Los Angeles. As a result, they now live in Australia, where Chris is much happier, even if Elsa isn’t.

Speaking about life in Los Angeles, Chris told Vanity Fair, “[It will] set up to turn you into a complete narcissist… You just kind of lose touch with reality a bit here. You drive down the street and you’re constantly reminded of everything you’re either involved in or not involved in. It’s exhausting. But I’m not complaining [...] What was it that Jennifer Lawrence said? ‘I know everyone says you’re not supposed to complain about the paparazzi. Well, I don’t [care]. I’m [...] complaining!’”

She’s Never Gotten Her Big Break

If there is one thing that can be said about Elsa Pataky, it’s definitely that she is persistent. She will keep banging on each and every door in Hollywood until they all come down. Unfortunately, though, she’s been doing this for years and for some reason that even her critics can’t explain, she hasn’t gotten her big break. Hollywood just isn’t willing to give her the same chance they gave Chris. Yet, Elsa knows that the perfect role is still out there for her.

She told Australia’s Vogue Magazine, “It just shows that women have to be equal in every way, and why not? People are not just interested in a lead guy, they want to see stories from women. There have been amazing women in life, strong women who have obstacles in life but keep going […] interesting stories about women. I also like and the mix of races and like accents now. When I arrived in LA and had an accent it was very difficult […] you didn’t have any opportunity to work. But now – look at the lead in Wonder Woman, she’s Israeli! I think for an actor it’s an amazing time, and an amazing time for older women to have more roles, too.”

She’s A Red Carpet Wife

Simply put, Elsa Pataky is a red carpet wife. While some people would take it as a compliment, there’s a good chance that Elsa might think it’s an insult. That’s because she wants to be known as more. Also, there has been a lot of speculation about what goes on behind closed doors at the Hemsworth house. And not a lot of it has been positive.

“They’ve decided they need space, and they’ve been taking a little break from each other,” a source told People Magazine back in 2016. “Hopefully it will be a case of absence makes the heart grow fonder, but they definitely appear to have some issues that need to be sorted out. It has raised a few eyebrows among their friends.”

If that weren’t enough, even Chris himself has admitted that when Elsa gets mad, he can definitely feel it. They have their fair share of fights, and then some.

Chris told Ellen DeGeneres, “When I hear the Spanish directed at me, it’s usually unfortunate, controversial, aggressive situations. So I’m just thinking, ‘What is she saying right now?’ and ‘What’s my comeback to this?’ When we’re fighting, basically — which is never! If she gets angry enough she’ll drop the English façade.”

She Doesn’t Get Many Film Roles

Elsa Pataky doesn’t have much on her plate these days. But with three small children to take care of at home, it’s not like she really has much time, either. Her breakout role (if you can even call it that) was the notoriously bad 2006 film, Snakes on a Plane. She’s also starred in several of the Fast and Furious franchise movies.

But if there’s one thing that Elsa Pataky wants to be, it’s a movie action star. Either she just hasn't found the right role yet or no one is willing to give it to her. Either way, Elsa has made it no secret that she is dreaming of bigger and better things.

She wants to show people what she’s made of and that she’s capable of carrying a film all on her own, just like her husband Chris Hemsworth.

She told the Daily Mail, “I’m a fearless person and my dream was always to be in an action movie where the female characters are as tough as the men. I think they forgot I would be pregnant [when filming]. I did get excited about doing stunts, but then they won’t let you do anything – like, nothing. You can’t even break a nail.”

Living In Australia

If there is something else that can be said about Elsa Pataky, it’s that she’s learned how to adapt to her environment. And that’s not always easy. Elsa grew up in Spain, but she always followed her heart to Hollywood. And now that she’s married to Chris Hemsworth, she’s been forced to settle in Australia. With her family back in Spain and all of her friends in Los Angeles, it hasn’t been easy readjusting to her new life Down Under. But it’s where her family is right now. Plus, Chris has made it no secret that he was never a fan of the Hollywood crowd. In fact, he wants to stay as far away as possible from it. For Chris, at least he’s happy with their current situation, even if Elsa might not be. For now though, they are staying put.

Chris told Parade Magazine, “In the space of three years, we had our kids and simultaneously my career was happening, and everything changed. We’d leave the house and there would be six paparazzi out in front. In L.A., more than anywhere else in the world, paparazzi are everywhere, 24/7. We felt suffocated. The agitation you feel from the paparazzi rippled in the house.”

She Doesn't Have Many Family Members And Friends Close By

As we’ve mentioned before, Elsa doesn’t have many close friends and family nearby her anymore. Australia is just too far away from the rest of the world. And it’s not like life in Europe: she can’t just hop on a plane from London and be in Madrid in a few hours. At least in America, she can be in Los Angeles in the morning and arrive in New York City in the evening. But now that she’s Down Under, every little trip she makes has to be planned to a T. She can’t just get up and fly out at any given time.

If that weren’t enough, her lifestyle in Australia has changed drastically, too. In the same interview with Parade Magazine, Chris said, “It’s just a quiet little surf town with a lot of farming, an hour and a half outside of Melbourne. There are other things in my life now — family, kids. I don’t want to have to be in the position where I care if the phone stops ringing. I’m OK about potentially not acting. That just may be me trying to convince myself in case it does happen, but I’ve always been weirdly aware of that.”

She Never Chose a Path

Now, no one really knows what is going on between Chris Hemsworth and Elsa Pataky behind closed doors. All we know is what they choose to tell us and choose to show us on a daily basis through their social media pages and of course Hollywood interviews.

Simply put, Elsa ever chose a path. Luckily, she does have one minor role in an Australian television production but for someone like her, it might not be enough.

She stars as a “darkly enigmatic and keenly intelligent leader of the Tidelanders – a woman unafraid to do anything to meet her ruthless ends” in the eight-part supernatural series set in a mysterious small fishing village inhabited by a commune outcasts.

Elsa told Vogue Magazine, “I am so excited about this project. I said no to a lot of offers so I could be with my kids, but I had started thinking that I wanted to get back to work and suddenly this project came up. My agent called me about it and when I read the script I loved it – the character is amazing, so interesting to play, and the whole show comes at a really good moment because it’s about women. It’s a great cast and has great young people and the leads are two very strong women.”

Her Side Projects

According to some of her critics, Elsa might have thrown in the towel a long time ago. Why? Because she probably realized that Hollywood just wasn’t going to give her the attention that she rightfully deserves. That’s why she’s now working on other side projects. She wants to be known as a celebrity fitness expert since her Hollywood career isn’t working the way she had previously planned. She also definitely wants to be a celebrity. Because even bad publicity is good publicity, no matter how you look at it, right? That’s her mantra.

Elsa told Elle Magazine, “It's interesting how you can be a successful woman who has been working her whole life, and then you have kids and suddenly your career isn't as important and you don't appreciate it as much, and you just think, 'What am I doing? I have been fighting all my life for this and now I don't know if I really want it?' It's unfair in a way, because I don't think men go through that. But when you become a mum, everything that was important goes into second position. You change a lot, you mature, you see life differently and learn so many things."

Her Social Media Fixation

Here’s another thing that a lot of people have noticed about Elsa Pataky: she loves social media. But then again, what celebrity in the public spotlight doesn’t? It’s their way of reaching out to the public and to their fans. But it’s something that Chris might not agree with. Even though he has his own social media accounts, he’s very careful about the things he posts online. That’s because he doesn’t want to create drama or stir the pot in any way. The less he says on Facebook and Instagram, the better.

Chris once told The Telegraph, “Matt Damon once said to me, ‘Just stay boring. Don’t go spilling out of a club at four in the morning and you’ll be fine.’ The paparazzi got bored with us. Because we are pretty boring. I got a film fairly quickly and felt like I was on a roll. I would walk into auditions sounding like Crocodile Dundee, thinking, ‘This is going to be a novelty for them.’ Then I realized that there are a million other Australians here and I should just shut up.” The work dried up. “Everything stopped for nine months. I was about to go back home. I was sick of being told ‘no.’ My pride was like [he makes a noise like a deflating balloon] [...] I lost that pent-up anxiety and desperation.”

Her Obsession With Her Image

Now, we can’t say that Elsa Pataky is alone when it comes to her obsession with her image. As a matter of fact, there are a lot of celebrity wives out there that are in the same boat as she is. In fact, it almost makes sense that Elsa wanted to be a Real Housewives of Beverly Hills just because she loves it whenever the spotlight is on her. The move would have been ideal for her, and if it weren’t for Chris blocking her opportunity, she definitely would have done it.

But let’s face it: when you are in a business like the entertainment industry, your appearance and your image is everything. You can only go so far with connections and skills, right? As much as it sucks to admit it, that’s the kind of world we just like in today, folks.

Elsa once told Elle Magazine, "I always tell people, don't be scared of moving out of your comfort zone because if you are, you'll miss out on so much life. Almost every person I've met who has had the courage to leave everything and have another experience, they have never regretted it. Just go, leave everything, who cares what is going to happen? You'll have to start again? Great!"

She Missed Her Opportunity

Now, no one knows what the future holds for Elsa Pataky. Only she knows what her next step in life will be. But for a lot of her critics, they believe that she might have missed her opportunity to make it big in Hollywood. After all, she’s been around for more than just a few years. Chris has been an A-list star for as long as his fans can remember. But Elsa, no matter how hard she has tried, just hasn’t been given the same opportunity to shine. And it doesn’t look like it’s going to happen anytime soon, either. That ship has sailed. There are so many actresses in Hollywood that wants what she wants. The competition is fierce and Elsa knows it. It might also be the reason why she’s given up.

Celeb*tchy had this to say in 2013, “Elsa may want to work as an actress, but she’s realistic about it. She knows she’s never going to be a movie star in her own right, but she can be one half of a power-couple. It’s the Jennifer Garner/Rita Wilson/Kate Capshaw School of Hollywood Power. And my guess is that Elsa is totally going to get pregnant again and soon, if she’s not already knocked up.”
