When it comes to the arts, you never know who’s going to become the next big thing. Eventually it’ll happen, it’s inevitable as that’s the nature of show business; many actors who experience a meteoric rise to fame almost seem to pop out of nowhere. For some artists, their craft remains unappreciated until late in their life or perhaps even after they have passed on. It takes a special kind of talent to be recognized almost as soon as one hits the silver screen.

Furthermore, it’s incredibly easy to forget that mesmerizing talent is difficult to come by. In this case, with respect to acting, not all actors have honed their craft into a fine and pointed instrument. And that brings us to the up-and-coming actor Timothée Chalamet. Maybe you recognize the name and maybe you don’t, but you’re probably familiar with some of his latest work. Already, at just the age of twenty-two, the native New Yorker has been in two hits. You have the heartbreaking romance Call Me By Your Name and you have the dramatic and humorous Lady Bird. Both movies received universal claim, partly thanks to the fantastic ability of the young Chalamet and his ability to bring raw emotion onto the screen for the audience to experience.

Timothée Chalamet is an actor fans are clamoring to see more of and trying to know more about. Here are 15 things you probably don’t know about up and coming star Timothée Chalamet.

HE WENT TO THE SAME SCHOOL AS ANSEL ELGORT

Part of having your own origin story is that you never know who you’re going to meet and what role they’ll play in your life and the lives of others. Back when he was a teenager, Timothée went to Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School. This was a divergent path to the one most aspiring actors took, since the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School specializes in art, music, dance, and drama and the students themselves are accepted based on auditions.

The school is known to have taught actors like Al Pacino and Jennifer Aniston, but as websites like Alloy tell us, that’s also where Timothée met future actor and teenage heartthrob Ansel Elgort.

While there, the two young men became good friends and remain friends to this day.

SPEAKS FLUENT FRENCH (AND SOME ITALIAN)

If you haven’t picked up on it from his name alone, Timothée Chalamet has some French roots. There are a number of actors who choose to change their names when entering Hollywood for something less difficult to pronounce. Timothée on the other hand, had no such problem keeping his French name, which he has in thanks to his French father.

His dad, who is also French, accompanies the young actor on many of his talk show appearances.

According to Hello Magazine, Timothée speaks fluent French, if only because while he was growing up, his family would go and spend summer vacation in a small town in France.

Add to that the Italian Timothée learned for Call Me By Your Name, and you have an actor who can speak three languages, with probably more on the way.

ARMIE HAMMER GAVE HIM BEARD BURN

When you’re an actor, not every role is going to be easy. There might even be moments when you end up suffering bodily and/or emotional harm, all in the name of art. And then there are those moments when you and your co-star end up sharing a little more passion than expected and you end up suffering, but in the best way possible. If you’ve seen Call My By Your Name, then you’re well aware that there are a few passionate scenes with Timothée Chalamet and Armie Hammer. One such scene featured the two rolling around in the grass in the Italian countryside embracing one another.

While on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, Timothée divulged that while he enjoyed his kissing scenes with Armie, he ended up getting some unexpected beard burn thanks to his co-star’s stubble. Ouch! Poor guy!

HE HAS TWO MOVIES COMING OUT SOON

When an actor is a popular commodity, they often find themselves swamped with work. After all, you have to strike while the iron is hot! After the success of both Call Me By Your Name and Lady Bird, you can bet that everyone wants to try and monopolize on the Timothée Chalamet train, including the actor himself. According to IMDB, we know he’s working on two new titles. The first is called A Rainy Day In New York.

There hasn’t been much revealed about it, but we do know that it’s a comedy written and directed by Woody Allen. Timothée is getting top billing and will be accompanied by actors Selena Gomez, Jude Law, and Kelly Rohrback. It’s supposed to come out later this year.

The second movie a drama called Beautiful Boy. It features actor Steve Carell as the father to Timothée’s addicted character. Directed by Felix van Groeningen, the film is also coming out later this year.

HE COMES FROM A SHOWBIZ FAMILY

Many actors get into acting, not necessarily because they want to, but because they were literally born into it. When you come from a showbiz family, odds are good that you too are going to become part of the showbiz world; it’s difficult to avoid, what with spending most of your youth in such an environment. You learn the art of showbiz through a sort of osmosis and that’s what happened to Timothée Chalamet.

The history of Timothée and his family where showbiz is concerned is relatively well-known, thanks in part to websites like Clevver and multiple others. His mother is a former Broadway dancer, his uncle is a filmmaker, his grandfather was a screenwriter, and his aunt is a television producer. While Timothée’s talent is enough to ensure he doesn’t need his family to help him out, it certainly doesn’t hurt to have so many connections.

A-LIST STARS ARE PREDICTING BIG THINGS FOR HIM

Rest assured, you aren’t the only one who’s noticed Timothée’s amazing aptitude for acting. Rather, according to Entertainment Weekly and an interview with A-list actor Matthew McConaughey for Interview magazine, the senior thespian had nothing but praise, and high expectations, for the young talent. The two played opposite each other in the 2014 science-fiction film Interstellar.

In the interview, according to Entertainment Tonight, McConaughey said, "Let's recognize that there are no 'Help Wanted' signs in this business… And you're in now.” He went on to doll out advice, saying “You've got to be attacking stuff, man – going after it and getting better… it's not like being a professional athlete where your peak years are your late-20s. You’ve got an opportunity to get better and better and better. The work will start to mean more and more and more to you.”

HE RAPPED (SORT OF) BACK IN HIGH SCHOOL

Most people have a hidden talent. Most people would also rather not have that hidden talent revealed for fear of it being super embarrassing. Well, when you’re a big time actor like Timothée Chalamet, any and all talents you possess are going to eventually come to the attention of the public. In this particular instance, thanks to both Entertainment Tonight and The Ellen DeGeneres Show, it was revealed that back in high school, Chalamet created rap music videos under the name “Timmy T.”

According to Entertainment Tonight, Armie Hammer, who was partly responsible for embarrassing Timothée, said, “The backstory behind that is, that was a school project that he had to actually turn in for a statistics class. So, everyone else wrote out all these sort of big statistics papers and all that, and he turned in this awesome rap. And the teacher only gave him, like, a D+ or something….”

HE DROPPED OUT OF COLLEGE

After high school, one typically goes to college. That’s exactly what Timothée Chalamet did… for a year. After attending Columbia University in New York City for a year, he dropped out. The young actor has explained in multiple interviews, including places online like Entertainment Tonight, that school just wasn’t for him and that his heart and mind just weren’t in to the academic commitment a place like Columbia University requires.

Rather than trying to grin and bear it like many students would, Timothée dropped out to pursue his dream.

From there, he moved into an apartment in the Bronx and spent the rest of this time pursuing his career as an actor. Not that we’re advising it for everyone, but all things considered, the whole dropping out of school thing has worked out for Timothée pretty well.

HE'S ONLY 22 YEARS OLD

Acting isn’t easy. Getting recognized for your achievements in acting is harder still. Already a tremendous talent, it’s hard to believe that Timothée Chalamet is only 22 years old. After starring in the fantastic Call Me By Your Name, Timothée was the youngest star to be nominated for Best Actor for the Golden Globe Awards. At the time, he was up against veteran actors like Gary Oldman, Daniel-Day Lewis, Tom Hanks, and Denzel Washington. In boosting his credibility even further, Timothée was nominated for an Academy Award for Actor In A Leading Role. Again, he was up against some of cinema’s biggest heavyweights. While he might not have won either, it speaks volumes to his acting chops. At this rate, Timothée is only going to get better and better, eventually becoming the stuff of legend.

HE WON THE LUCILLE LORTEL AWARD

Many actors don’t always begin their careers in movies. In fact, a bunch of them start their rise to stardom on the stage. Theater is a big part in the origin of many well-known and popular actors and the same is true for Timothée Chalamet. Starting from a relatively young age, from back when he was a teenager, Timothée was involved in several theatrical productions. However, it was a couple years ago that back in 2016, according to Heavy, that he won the Lucille Lortel Award for Outstanding Lead Actor for his performance in John Patrick Shanleu’s Prodigal Son. If that wasn’t enough, the young thespian was also nominated for a Drama League Award.

It seems like Timothée has acting in his bones. Who knows, perhaps some things are just meant to be.

HE AUDITIONED FOR SPIDER-MAN: HOMECOMING

Spider-Man: Homecoming was one of the biggest popcorn flicks last summer. After years without a Spider-Man movie as part Marvel Studios’ official cinematic universe, they opted to hire actor Tom Holland as the amazing wall-crawler. From there, he debuted in Captain America: Civil War, before later starring in his own film. Tom Holland did, and continues to do, a terrific job as the teenage superhero with the proportionate strength, speed, and agility of a spider, but, as it turns out, we could have gotten a very different Peter Parker.

Turns out Timothée auditioned for the part of the popular superhero. A couple months ago at the Los Angeles Film Critics Association Awards, Timothée recollected feeling like he bombed the audition.

Whether he did or not is beside the point; all things considered, life is working out for him regardless.

HE DATED MADONNA'S DAUGHTER LOURDES

Actors are known for being eccentric, especially where their romantic lives are concerned. That said, celebrities reside in a world where everyone knows everybody else. It’s hard to date outside that universe, as being with a regular person, while not impossible, is also not easy. That leaves for a somewhat limited dating pool. According to InStyle a couple years ago, Timothée dated Lourdes Leon, the daughter of Madonna. Their romance occurred back when they were going to school at LaGuardia High.

For whatever reason, the relationship didn’t work out for the two, but they each seem to have moved on but still remain friends.

Even so, based on recent interviews, Timothée, unlike many celebrities, gets rather flustered whenever he’s forced to share details about his personal life.

HE LEARNED SKILLS FOR CALL ME BY YOUR NAME

There are some actors who will do anything for a role. This usually includes learning a litany of skills in order to prepare them, so that their acting can appear natural, pure, and authentic. You can often tell how much work an actor dedicates to their performance; the screen doesn’t lie. In the case of Timothée Chalamet, he went guns blazing into Call Me By Your Name. In one of the movie’s prominent scenes, Timothée plays the piano masterfully, as though he’s been practicing for years. Yet according to Hello Magazine and a couple of other reputable sources, Timothée hadn’t been practicing for years, but rather specifically learned to play the piano, guitar, and even learn how to speak Italian, just for the film. Talk about a guy who’s dedicated to his craft!

HE'S DONATING HIS SALARY FROM HIS WOODY ALLEN MOVIE

You can also tell an actor’s personal worth by how they choose to spend their money. Timothée Chalamet has all the makings of not only a good actor, but a good person.

A couple of months ago on his Instagram page, Timothée announced that he’d be donating all the money he made from his upcoming movie A Rainy Day In New York.

Already there’s controversy built around the film, partly because director Woody Allen has come under fire for a bunch of allegations. Though many actors who work with the director try and keep quiet about their feelings one way or the other, Timothée said that he’s not able to talk about the situation much due to contractual obligations but he’s donating the salary he earns to three charities: Time’s Up, the LGBT Center in New York, and RAINN.

HIS REHEARSAL WITH ARMIE HAMMER WAS A ROMANTIC SCENE

Call Me By Your Name is a tremendous powerhouse of a movie. There hasn’t been anything like it in years and, quite frankly, there probably won’t be. Part of the movie’s success wasn’t just the story and the magnificent dialogue, but the actors. Timothée and Armie Hammer worked side-by-side to deliver a truly memorable story about first love and what it means to experience loss.

According to Mental Floss, Call Me By Your Name director Luca Guadagnino wanted the performances to feel natural. To that end, he came up with an interesting icebreaker. Calling for only one rehearsal, the director had the actors join him and asked them to practice the scene featuring characters Elio and Oliver rolling around the grass kissing. The two actors did just that and then they were done, Guadagnino had already gone, leaving them to their own devices.
