In theory, marriage is supposed to be something special. Two people coming together to love each other, and honor each other, until the end of time. One assumes when you talk about love and marriage, which is supposed to be when two people who trust each other and are really good friends come together for all time, there would not be a need for a prenup agreement, but if you were to think that you would be wrong. For those who don't know, a prenup is basically when one person asks another one to sign something that protects the first person in case of a divorce.
As you might imagine this happens a lot with celebrities, and this happens for two reasons. On the one hand, celebrities tend to have a lot of money and they want to protect that and don't want to lose it all during a divorce, on the other hand, they also are worried that the person that supposedly loves them just really is into them because they are famous. Some of the prenups that people get asked to sign by these celebrities are fairly reasonable, but other times they are simply ridiculous. As you go through this list you will be amazed at what some of these celebrities expected their spouses to be to sign.
Here are 15 Celeb Couples With Messed Up Prenups We Would Have Never Signed.

20 Jay-Z And Beyonce — $5 Million For Every Child
It doesn't happen often, but sometimes both people that are getting married are both about the same when it comes to fame and money. Obviously when it comes to Beyonce and Jay-Z having a prenup is a bit of a formality, they are both so loaded that it wouldn't mean a whole lot to them if they broke up, but still, they signed one, and it favors Beyonce.
She gets $5 million for every child she gives birth to and she is covered if they get divorced, too. She gets $1 million for every year they're married.
So if any of you were worried about Beyonce becoming homeless if these two ever get divorced, don't worry, she is covered.
19 Jennifer Lopez And Ben Affleck — No Cheating!
A lot of you might forget that these two were once an item, but they were totally in love at one point. They were going to get married but Affleck called off the wedding because of them having issues around the prenup. A big issue was that Jen would get half of what he earned because he cheated on her, and it was said that
he even demanded money just for marrying.
He also wanted it to be in writing that they do it in the bedroom at least 4 times a week. Talk about not being romantic, seriously Ben? This type of thing almost makes the rest of us happy that we don't have all the problems these big celebrities have.
18 Britney Spears And Kevin Federline — Limited To $1 Million
We all remember the train wreck and dumpster fire of a marriage that was Britney Spears and Keven Federline. Of course, she got a prenup with him, because she was way wealthier then he was. In their prenup, there was something that said
every gift that cost more than $7,000 had to be accompanied by a legal document saying who owned it in case they got divorced
and also limited the amount he could receive in case of divorce to $1 million. While it turned out that Britney was rather insane at the time, doing this prenup was the opposite of that, as the two didn't last very long as a couple. What a surprise!
17 Katie Holmes And Tom Cruise — $3 Million For Every Year
One of the most irritating celebrity couples of all time was Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes. Yes, Tom Cruise is a really good actor, but he is also totally irritating as a human being.
Their prenup stated that she would get $3 million for every year they were married when they got divorced.
This is the thing, it might sound kind of cold to be that way, but let's face it, Tom Cruise seems like a total lunatic. It seems to be a wise move to get a pretty decent prenup, and Katie Holmes is obviously no dummy, as she did exactly that.
16 Justin Timberlake And Jessica Biel — He Pays If He Cheats
Yes Jessica Biel and Justin Timberlake are a fairly cute celebrity couple, but even they got a prenup just in case things fall apart. This one has to do with Justin Timberlake cheating if he does and they get divorced he has to pay her $500,000. That isn't a whole lot of money considering how much he makes, but wouldn't it give you pause if your wife to be said that you had to do that with her? Even if it was just $500, if your wife was like "Umm, I am okay with marrying you, but if you cheat on me I want something in writing that you have to pay me 500 bucks." Isn't that a huge red flag? It sure seems like one to me.
15 Brad Pitt And Angelina Jolie — She Gets The Kids
For all of the great press that these two got together, it was pretty obvious that they were never going to last, even with the fact that they kept adopting kids like they were going out of style. And speaking of the kids,
their prenup states that if they get divorced, Angelina gets custody of the kids.
Isn't that kind of odd when you think about it? Would you want to get married to someone who has already signed away custody of his kids before he even marries you? It really is kind of depressing when you think about it. And as well know they did get divorced and she does have custody. What a surprise right? Just kidding.
14 George Clooney And Amal Alamuddin — She Gets $20 Million
George Clooney was one of the most eligible bachelors out there for a long time, and it is no wonder, he not only is super good looking but is really charming as well. He also is totally rich,
some estimate that he is worth over $200 million, which is probably why his prenup says that Amal gets $20 million in the case of a divorce.
Now I know that sounds like a lot, but is it really? Not when you are worth that much money. Amal must be the envy of women all over the world, not only is she with one of the most desirable men in the world, she is also with someone who is worth a ton if they end up getting divorced.
13 Hugh Hefner And Crystal Harris — She Would Have Gotten Nothing
This is an odd one. Sometimes the prenups are a little one-sided and this is certainly one of them. The late Hugh Hefner did a prenup with his wife Crystal Harris that says she got nothing if they were divorced. While this sounds like something that might be kind of cruel, let's be honest here. Hefner was incredibly old when they got married and also incredibly rich.
What better way to find out if some young, hot woman really wants to marry you then making her sign something that says she gets nothing if you get divorced?
Hugh Hefner has been called a lot of things over the years, but no one has ever called him stupid.
12 Steven Spielberg And Amy Irving — Wrote It On A Napkin
Sometimes people try to do prenups but they totally fail at it. Before Steven Spielberg married actress Amy Irving they did a prenup but they wrote it out on a napkin and
when they got divorced, she ended up getting $100 million, which was about half of the money he had because a judge threw out the prenup, saying it wasn't valid.
Well, they wrote it on a napkin, so what do you expect? This is one of those things about how someone who is so smart in one way, is without a doubt, not so smart in another. When it comes to movies he is one of the best ever, and well respected by all, but when it comes to prenups, he is a total noob.
11 Mark Zuckerberg And Priscilla Chan — A Dating Prenup?
When it comes to prenups, it makes some sense to do it when you are married, but can you imagine doing one just to go have a dating relationship with someone? Well if you answered no to that question, then you might not have wanted to go out with Mark Zuckerberg.
The prenup included a minimum of one date per week and he had to have at least one 100 minutes of alone time that he would spend outside of his apartment or away from the Facebook offices.
Somehow, this didn't scare Priscilla Chan off, and she wound up marrying him, which makes us wonder if he was so wound up about dating, we wonder what the marriage prenup included.
10 Jessica Simpson And Tony Romo — She Couldn't Get Fat
You know how you are supposed to be totally into the woman that you marry and love her no matter what the situation is? Well, Tony Romo feels like that too, except for the fact he obviously doesn't like fat women all that much.
He wanted a clause in the prenup saying if Jessica Simpson weighed in at more than 135 pounds, he would get $500,000.
Man, it sure is a wonder that this didn't work out right? Can you imagine the nerve of this guy?
9 Catherine Zeta-Jones And Michael Douglas — $5 Million If He Cheated
These two definitely seem to have a lot going on despite their age difference, but let's face it, Michael Douglas has a bit of a dark side, and Catherine Zeta-Jones is no dummy. Their prenup said that she would get $2.8 million if they got divorced and $5 million more if he cheated on her. Now I know that Douglas has a ton of money and $5 million probably wouldn't hurt him all that much, but still, I don't know if it kept him in line when it came to cheating and fooling around with other women, but it sure didn't hurt. I don't know about you, but I would really have to want to cheat if it was going to cost me that much money.
8 Nicole Kidman And Keith Urban — No Substance
When Nicole Kidman signed a prenup, things were pretty much on the up and up, except for one thing. If he was found to be using substance, then Keith Urban wouldn't get any of her money in the event of a divorce. This is one of those that makes a fair amount of sense, because people with substance problems tend to spend a ton of money on it, so one could argue that Nicole was just looking out for him by putting this in the prenup because lets face it, the only thing more dangerous than someone with no money with a substance problem is someone with a whole lot of money with a substance problem.
7 Charlie Sheen And Brooke Mueller — $300,000 A Year
This is the first time you are seeing Charlie Sheen on this list, but let me tell you right now, it won't be the last. He got married or engaged a bunch of times and each time he attempted to protect himself. Too bad he couldn't protect himself from himself instead of his potential wives.
Brooke Mueller got $500,000 for getting married and $300,000 for every year she stayed married to him.
This might sound like a lot, but it really isn't. If he didn't do a prenup like this things could have gotten a lot worse for him. Oh wait, I forgot, things got a whole lot worse for him anyway — not exactly what I would call "winning."
6 Elizabeth Taylor And Larry Fortensky — $1 Million If He Made It 5 Years
Elizabeth Taylor was a pro at getting married, her 7th and last marriage was to Larry Fortensky. Their prenup said that if they stayed married for 5 years he would get $1 million, even if they stayed married. They did stay married that long and he got the money, but they divorced soon after.
They stayed friends, though, so much so that she ended up leaving him $800,000 in her will.
Fortensky was always an odd choice for her since he was a construction worker who was well below her social status, but it seems like he truly did love her, which probably couldn't be said about all of Elizabeth Taylor's husbands.
5 Charlie Sheen And Denise Richards — $4 Million For Cheating
Here is another Charlie Sheen prenup, but I warn you, it won't be the last. This one was for his marriage to Denise Richards, they were married four years before they became divorced.
Amazingly, they both agreed to sign a prenup that says they get $4 million if the other one cheats on them.
This is amazing for a couple reasons, but mostly because Charlie Sheen obviously knew that he was going to cheat when he signed the agreement. If I were a betting man, I would bet that Charlie Sheen probably was cheating on Denise Richards with someone within an hour of when he signed the prenup.
4 Ice-T And Coco — She Has To Return Her Implants
This one is just plain old weird. Apparently Coco got a lot of implants both in her butt and in her breasts during the relationship, and in event if they separate, Coco would actually have to return them. In one way, this makes sense. He is basically saying, "Hey I paid for this because I love you, but if we get divorced you have to give me what I gave you back." On the other hand it doesn't make sense at all, because the whole this is totally weird and rather gross. But I guess if I were to think about it, their whole relationship was always totally weird and rather gross, so why make the prenup out to be anything different? Beats me.
3 Mariah Carey And Nick Cannon — Confidentiality Is Key
Sometimes people do prenups that are much less about money or cheating on each other and are way more about keeping their mouths shut. Mariah and Nick signed a prenup that had a confidentiality agreement attached to it,
meaning if they got divorced, neither one of them could blab any details to the media about it.
It would cost Nick $250,000 and Mariah would have to pay $500,000. While both of them are super rich, that is still enough money to keep them from talking to the press, especially when it is something that they shouldn't be doing anyway. I have to say I almost approve of this one, not quite, but almost.
2 Charlie Sheen And Brett Rossi — Same Prenup As Denise Richards
Hey everyone look, it's Charlie Sheen! Yes, here he is with yet another prenup, this time with Brett Rossi who he never actually married. She would have received $300,000 for every year they were married and $4 million if he cheated on her! Yes, that is the exact same as his prenup with Denise Richards.
This is when you really have to start examining your life choices.
If you start doing prenups and they are the exact same as prenups that you have done before, then you need to check yourself before you wreck yourself. Although now that I think of it, Charlie Sheen never did check himself, and he did wreck himself so I guess it is too late.
1 Chris Rock And Malaak Compton — Rock-Expiration Date
Sometimes there are prenups that just wind up expiring, and a good example of this is the one between Chris Rock and Malaak Compton-Rock,
the prenup they signed was good for 18 years, but the divorce ended up going down after they were married for 20.
I guess Chris thought that after 18 years, things would be all good and he didn't have to worry anymore. Although when it comes right down to it, he is so loaded that he obviously doesn't have to worry anyway. This kind of stuff is all relative, $10 million to some of these guys is like a $1,000 to you and me, which now that I think of it is why they need a prenup in the first place.
