Deciding to have a family is a huge decision, even for celebrities. Just because they live the life of fame and fortune doesn’t mean that they want to have big families either. There are celebrities out there that have made the choice not to have children and they aren’t going to apologize for it. They want to live the life of luxury or work as much as they want to without worrying about children. Some might call them selfish, but does a woman have to have a child in order to fit into what society deems as normal? Of course not! All the power to women who choose what they want out of life without any apologies.

There are also other celebrities who do want children but have struggled with fertility all their lives. These women were unable to have children and either made the decision to stay childless or they adopted. It’s a weird life sometimes when you think of all the women who can have children but choose not to, while there are women who do want children but can’t.

As we all grew up, we were often taught that after school, you got a job, got married, and star popping out babies. Society has certainly changed over the years and not everyone has decided to have children.

Oprah Thinks Her Kids Would Hate Her

Oprah practically seems like Mother Earth at times. She is easily one of the most caring and giving celebrities out there. So, we would all instantly think that she would have a lot of children. She seems like the perfect person to do so. But Oprah has never had children, despite the fact that she’s been with the same man for 26 years. "If I had kids, my kids would hate me. They would have ended up on the equivalent of the Oprah show talking about me; because something [in my life] would have had to suffer and it would've probably been them." Well, at least she is honest about it. Considering she has gone against all the social norms like getting married and having children, she’s easily one of the most successful women in the world. So, she must be doing something right. Having children isn’t for everyone.

Jordana Brewster Wanted To Take A Leap Of Faith

The Fast & Furious star has always been open about her inability to have children. For such a young and healthy girl, you would think that she would have no problem bearing children. But that hasn’t been the case at all. She didn’t let that stop her, however, and she and her husband Andrew Form used a gestational surrogate to carry their two sons. Before having her son, she opened up about the difficulty she had over the years with trying to conceive. She called having children, “the most intimate leap of faith and trust you can take.” It must be such a struggle for women to go through when you want to have children of your own but you are unable to. Brewster made her dreams happen no matter what, though, and that’s the most important part. Make yourself happy no matter what.

Jennifer Aniston Doesn't Need Children To Be Maternal

It’s still up in the air whether Jennifer Aniston will ever have children, but she certainly doesn’t seem too concerned about it. There has been much speculation over the years that Aniston has had the “baby bump,” but to this day, nothing has ever came of it. She is now married to her handsome husband and there is still no talk about pregnancy or even adopting. The world has been obsessed with her having children for years, however, and Aniston has been more than a little annoyed over it. "I don't think it's fair. You may not have a child come out of your vagina, but that doesn't mean you aren't mothering — dogs, friends, friends' children." It’s totally true, just because a woman doesn’t have children, it doesn’t mean that she is not maternal. There are plenty of men out there that don’t get bothered when they decide not to have children.

Emma Thompson Felt Like A Failure

Emma did conceive her first child, a girl named Gaia, but when they tried to have their second child, she had quite a difficult time conceiveing. It wasn’t an option, for whatever reason, to adopt. Thompson just really wanted to conceive another child. In fact, she was so determined to have a sibling for Gaia, when she couldn’t conceive another child, she went into a deep depression over it. She tried in vitro fertilization but it never took with her and it left her feeling very guilty as if she was a failure. "After that, we tried to have another child, it didn’t work, and I went into a deep clinical depression," she says. "It’s only now that I no longer count other people’s children or judge myself harshly for not providing my daughter with a sibling." That must have been a very difficult experience.

Cameron Diaz Isn't Interested In Parenting

A lot of people don’t realize how much work it is to have children. Even when they do, they don’t realize how much responsibility it is to have children — it can literally take over your life. Sometimes, it can be hard enough to have your own life without worrying about the responsibility of raising another person. Let’s be honest, it can be exhausting at times. Cameron Diaz knows the responsibility of having children and she wants no part of it. She’s just been acting and publishing books and seems to have it all covered. "It's so much more work to have children. To have lives beside your own that you are responsible for — I didn't take that on. That did make things easier for me. A baby — that's all day, every day for eighteen years." She couldn’t be more right.

Elisabeth Rohm Didn't Give Up

It’s such a struggle for women who can’t have children when they really want to. Elisabeth Rohm spent many years being a badass prosecutor on Law & Order. She’s been very candid about her struggles trying to conceive. When she realized that she wouldn’t be able to conceive on her own, she decided to try IVF with her fiancé Ron Anthony. It worked and she had a daughter named Easton August. We couldn’t imagine how hard it must be to go through these experiences. Rohm ended up blogging about her experiences on People.com. She also wrote a book called Baby Steps: Having the Child I Always Wanted (Just Not As I Expected).

Helen Mirren Has No Maternal Instinct

This iconic woman is powerful in her own right and she has demanded respect in every aspect. She' also made it pretty clear that she has zero maternal instinct whatsoever. Some women just have no interest in having children and that doesn’t mean that there is anything wrong with them. “I think an awful lot of women don't really want children but feel they ought to. They think there's something wrong with them if they don't want to, but it's not true." There are a lot of women out there who have children and then regret it, so there is some truth to what she is saying. Many women regret their decision to have children because their life just seems to pass them by. It’s always best to only have children if you really want them.

Amy Smart Found A Surrogate

Amy Smart and her husband Carter Oosterhouse recently had a baby and they were over the moon about it. How could they not be? As you can see in the picture, these are two very proud parents. A month after the baby was born, Smart posted this emotional photo on Instagram stating that the baby was conceived via a surrogate. “One month ago today, Dec. 26, our amazing beautiful daughter came into this world. Feeling so grateful to have her in my arms... after years of fertility struggles, I give thanks today to our kind, loving surrogate for carrying her.” Smart is one of many actresses that have had trouble conceiving their own child and went along the path of finding a surrogate. It was obviously a touching moment for the couple and they couldn’t look happier than they are in this photo.

Margaret Cho Feels No Pull Toward Children

We love comedian Margaret Cho, but she’s never been just a comedian. She’s an actress, singer, songwriter, fashion designer, and of course, a comedian. It’s no wonder she has never been interested in having children. Where would she find the time? There is no doubt about it, this woman has no intention of ever having children and she’s not about to apologize for it either. “I do not want children. When I see children, I feel nothing. I have no maternal instinct. I am barren. I ovulate sand. I look at children and feel no pull toward them, no desire whatsoever," she said. Yes, we have to say that she has made her point pretty clear on the matter. We love her candor.

Trista Sutter Struggled For Two Years

Trista Sutter was the first-ever bachelorette on the show and she’s been the best success story. She is still with her husband Ryan Sutter and they have multiple children. She was one of many celebrities that had trouble conceiving and she said it was a very dark time in her life. She was anxious to start a family right after she married Ryan, but it didn’t happen for them. "I talk about in the book how we struggled with infertility for almost two years. I always wanted to be a mom, it was always my dream, and although I wanted to be a career person for a very long time, overplaying that at all times was to become a mother.” It took the two of them two years to have their children. It’s a very difficult thing to not be able to do anything about making a dream of yours come true and questioning whether something is wrong with you," she continued. "So that was definitely a dark time in my life."

Candace Bushnell Feels Like Her Career Is Her Child

We love the books that Candace Bushnell writes; we just can’t get enough of them. Well, that’s partly why she didn’t have children of her own. She wanted to be a bestselling author and she felt that was going to take up all of her time. If she had children, they would only suffer. "I think it's a career where you have to put the career first. I don't have kids but — and luckily everyone isn't like this — I think if you have that passion, in a way, your career is your child." For Bushnell, it was what she wanted and she has never regretted it. Some people just aren’t meant to have kids and there isn’t anything wrong with that.

Kate Walsh Went Through Early Menopause

Kate Walsh has had quite the successful career in Hollywood and she has rocked it in Private Practice and 13 Reasons Why. Walsh always wanted to have children, but doesn’t have any. The actress actually went into early menopause which made it impossible to have children of her own. She never considered adopting either. “I don’t have children. I’m not going to have kids. I went through early menopause. My older sister called and was like, ‘By the way, you should go and get yourself checked because I’m going through menopause early.’ “And I’m like, ‘You’re just scaring me.’ And then yeah, sure enough, I went and they were like, ‘You have one egg.’ It was bleak.”

Chelsea Handler Doesn't Like Kids

Chelsea Handler is one funny lady. We can't help but crack up every time we see her. Whether it’s on TV or in her many books, she is very candid about her life. She has stated many times that she doesn’t have children because “she doesn’t like them.” She’s joking, of course, she’s not that cold, but many women who decide to have children can totally relate to her jokes. "I'm a great aunt or friend of the mother. I don't want to spend that kind of time. I don't want to have a kid and have it raised by a nanny. I’m 41 now. I don’t ever look back and think, ‘God, I wish I’d had that baby.’” We’re glad that these women have no regrets about not having children. It's a big decision either way.

Chrissy Teigen Wanted To Have Kids The Old-Fashioned Way

Chrissy Teigen is one of the most outspoken celebrities out there; she has no problem speaking her mind. She has been outspoken about her issues with fertility because she hasn’t had an easy time of it. It took her and hubby John Legand some time to have a child together, but they were determined to do it the old-fashioned way. When she finally decided to announce the news on Instagram, she was over the moon. “As many of you know, we’ve been trying to have a baby for a while now. It hasn’t been easy, but we kept trying because we can’t wait to bring our first child into the world and grow our family. We’re so excited that it’s finally happening.” We’re so happy that she was finally able to get pregnant. The two of them certainly are great parents. Oh, and did we mention she's now pregnant with their second child?

Mavis Leno Doesn't Want To Feel Trapped

Mavis Leno is the wife of former talk-show host Jay Leno. When Mavis was interviewed by The Washington Post, she was asked why the couple never had children. She made it perfectly clear that it was her fault entirely for them not having children. She feels that children are the way that women, unlike men, get trapped and she was not having any part of it. “I would see a young woman who was very attractive and a thousand times smarter, and she’s living in this little tenement hovel with her husband [...] These men spend all their time talking about what a drag the wives are and asking how can they get away from them. It’s perfectly obvious the women are the ones trapped.”
