I can't hide for a second that I'm not a huge fan of the Harry Potter franchise. The house I live in with my fiancée is decked out in Harry Potter memorabilia and that isn't going to be slowing down anytime soon. I've read 2 of the books (granted the first two) in the last week and have no plans to stop until I've finished the series again.

We are even planning for major elements of our wedding day to be Harry Potter themed. Don't worry, my fiancée is an even bigger fan of the series than I am, so at least you know the feeling is mutual! But even if you aren't a major Potter fan like we are, you must be able to admit that some of the things in the universe are seriously cool. Not to mention would be incredibly handy if they just happened to also exist in real life.

And while you may need a Remembrall to help you through your daily life, this list of 25 is sure to be memorable enough to leave you with things to talk about with your friends. I'll look at every part of the series, and in the process, leave no doubt in your mind that I've tracked down the 25 most valuable (or downright awesome) inventions that the world would surely love.

Though I am sorry if by the end of this list you find yourself really wishing you had the ability to step on a train and find yourself going towards Hogwarts!

Invisibility Cloak

screencaps

I am sure there are many things that the Invisibility cloak could be used for that would have some pretty nefarious purposes. Such as walking into a store and deciding that paying for things is something that should really only be for people who aren't lucky enough to have a cloak. But even if you wanted to remain completely innocent with your intentions of having such a powerful device, you have to admit it would be pretty awesome to have!

Polyjuice Potion

melty

There are many different potions that get utilized in the Harry Potter franchise. But one of the most memorable moments of the entire series comes during the 2nd installment when Hermione creates some Polyjuice Potion. The effects of which allow the user to transform their body into that of another person in this instance for roughly an hour long. You'd just have to be careful that you don't accidentally pick some cat hair and make a terrible mistake like Hermione ended up doing. That is unless you want to head to the hospital!

Moving Pictures

There are many things in the Harry Potter universe that are small variations of things we have in the "muggle world" but have some pretty fantastic benefits that are sure to leave you feeling jealous. Such as photographs. But for Harry and his friends, their photos have the distinct advantage of actually moving. Which you must agree would add a very cool element to any photos that you may have displayed around the house. Even if seeing it for the first few times would probably be pretty freaky!

Omnioculars

Anyone who has gone to a sports game with bad seats knows the incredibly useful nature of binoculars. But in the wizarding world, they have Omnioculars, which are described as having several features,

"You can replay action ... slow everything down ... and they flash up a play-by-play breakdown if you need it," wrote J.K. Rowling when talking about the invention during its first appearance in "Harry Potter and The Goblet of Fire" when Harry, Ron, and Hermione were attending the Quidditch World Cup and used them.

Patented Daydream Charms

tumblr

George and Fred Weasley have several amazing inventions. But when J.K. Rowling was asked which one stood out to her, she replied,

"From the joke shop, well, my favorite has to be the daydream charm, you know where you sort of plug yourself into this daydream and you escape from your school lesson which I could do without a magical product quite easily."

Explaining the product further, the charm allowed the user to enter 30 minutes of a very realistic daydream state.

Pensieve

There are many different techniques that you can use to help improve your memory. One of the best things you can do is to try and jot down the different events of your day. But if you had something really important and were a wizard, you'd be able to use a Pensieve to create a "recording" (so to speak) of that memory. The feature is first introduced into the series in the 4th book.

"One simply siphons the excess thoughts from one's mind, pours them into the basin, and examines them at one's leisure," said Dumbledore when explaining it.

Flying Brooms

How amazing would it be to fly? I mean sure, it would be really unfortunate if you took a serious tumble. But let's also hope that the ability to mend your injuries quickly has also been part of this scenario. Because if I'm being realistic, it'd probably only be a matter of time before you decided to take an unexpected tumble towards the ground! It may make your commute into work a lot more exciting though. But on that note, it may also make you even more excited to get to ride home.

Wands

melty

I could sit here and spend hours talking about the various spells from the Harry Potter universe that would be very useful to have in your everyday life. Such as anytime you notice the remote is too far away and wish you could just say "Accio remote!". But alas, things don't work that way. The best way to encompass all the amazing Harry Potter spells is to say how awesome it would be if magical wands were something that existed in reality.

Floo Powder

The Harry Potter universe makes it abundantly clear that traveling by usage of Floo Powder is not easy. In fact, when Harry uses it for the first time he ends up in the wrong location. But the idea of popping some dust in a fire and traveling to another location is something that is too tempting to pass up! You just have to hope that if you end up in the wrong place that you are met by a friendly face and not someone who wants to do harm to you.

Remembrall

It is very possible that you are sitting down right now as you read this article and are also racking your brain about something that you may have forgotten to do. Don't worry, you're only human and that's something that could honestly happen to anyone! But one thing that would reduce your stress would be having access to a Remembrall, which if you don't remember, was a sphere that glowed red when the person who owned it had forgotten to do something. Such as Neville who forgot to put his robes on.

Quidditch

harry potter wiki

There may be several sports that you love to sit back and watch. Such as the World Cup which is one of the biggest sporting spectacles of all-time. But when it comes to the Harry Potter universe, the sport that stands above all is Quidditch. There are several things that would have to exist for Quidditch to become a reality - such as flying brooms - but it's still an entertaining sport to get to read about (and briefly see on film) and would surely be popular if it was a real thing.

Howler

One of the most exhilarating moments in the Harry Potter universe is during "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets" when Ron and Harry take the car of Ron's father for a drive to Hogwarts. While the boys arrive at the school, Ron's actions are soon after met by a "Howler" delivered by Mrs.Weasley. Which is essentially a letter that you send through the mail but it has the voice of the sender screaming the message. Talk about an effective way to try and make sure you are getting your point across!

Secrecy Sensor

I hate to break it to you but there is probably a pretty good chance that you have been lied to at some point in the last week. Let's just hope that you aren't the person out there who is the one doing the lying! And while the Secrecy Sensor isn't exactly the most subtle thing in the world to be carrying around, it does vibrate when there are lies or deception going on which could definitely have some pretty amazing advantages in real life.

Wizard's Chess

harry potter wiki

Now before anyone gets too upset, I will not for a second infer that chess in its own right is not a wonderful sport. But why not add an extra thrill of excitement to the game by also having a version of wizard chess? Which, if you don't recall, involves the pieces moving and delivering some pretty devastating blows. And just when you thought getting beaten at chess couldn't get any more humiliating! Ron ends up playing a giant version of the game during the climax of "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone".

Butterbeer

people

Harry Potter has many moments in the series when he is feeling angsty. One of the most upsetting times in his life came in "Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban" when he was unable to attend Hogsmeade. Not helping his sadness is the fact that Ron and Hermione drank some delicious sounding Butterbeer which they said warmed them right up. The drink is also believed to have a slight alcoholic quality. Though if you really want Butterbeer people online have posted recipes. The product is also available at the Wizarding World of Harry Potter theme park.

The Mirror of Erised

harry potter wiki

There is definitely some danger that comes with the Mirror of Erised. I mean, the phrase on it literally says,

"The mirror shows the most desperate desire of a person's heart, a vision that has been known to drive men mad," but if this really did exist, you'd probably be tempted to at least take a peek at the mirror and see the results. But as Dumbledore also wisely stated,  "It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live, remember that."

Skiving Snackboxes

tumblr

If you are finding yourself reading this list while you are in a classroom or at work, you may agree with the sentiment that you wouldn't mind feigning a sickness and going home. If that's the case, you would be all about the Skiving Snackboxes that was created by the Weasley twins. It gives the user two treats, one to make them display symptoms of sickness - such as vomiting - and another to take for when they need the symptoms to subside.

Peruvian Instant Darkness Powder

via tumblr

Now if I'm being upfront the person who may need the usage of Peruvian Instant Darkness Powder is someone who may want to try and spend their time acting like they are Batman. But the idea of throwing a powder down and getting darkness is way too cool to leave off of the list. The first appearance of the powder in the series is in Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince by Draco Malfoy. Who, as you can imagine, used the powder for nefarious purposes.

Felix Felicis

harry potter wiki

Do you know what the best day of your entire life has been? If you had the ability to pick up some Felix Felicis you very well may! Shown to the reader in book 6, the potion states that,

"Brewed correctly the drinker of this potion will be lucky in all their endeavors, but be warned … excessive consumption is highly toxic and can cause extreme recklessness."

Something that you can imagine it's would be in existence in real life would probably come with a very high price tag and not be in easy supply!

Portkeys

screencaps

There are many handy ways to travel in the wizarding world. But one of the most intriguing may be the usage of Portkeys. Which allows you, and whoever is holding on, the ability to transport to a predetermined location. Such as in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire when at the end of the Triwizard tournament, Harry Potter and Cedric Diggory were unaware that they utilized a Portkey when they grabbed the Triwizard cup and transported to Little Hangleton graveyard where they were confronted by Lord Voldemort.

Time-Turners

wiki

When the invention of the Time-Turner was introduced in Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban the original purpose was to let Hermione take more classes. But it did end up being pretty useful. Regardless of why you'd want to use it, the idea of a time-turner is wicked. Hermione's allowed her to stay up to 5 hours in the past, but later one was created that allowed the user to spend as long as they desired in the past.

Aging Potion

screencaps

Have you ever wondered what it is you would look like when you get older? If that's a question that pertains to you, then that means there may not be an item on this entire list that stands out to you more than the Ageing Potion. The item becomes introduced to the audience in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire when the Weasley twins attempt to add to their age in order to try and enter the Triwizard tournament, though they came up short when the realized they didn't drink enough.

Magical Cleaning Supplies

hp wiki

Ron is outraged when he is asked at multiple times in the series to clean something - such as the trophy of Tom Riddle in "Harry Potter and the Chamber Of Secrets" - without using magic. Which goes to really make it abundantly clear how handy magic would be to help you deal with your daily chores. Accio is a pretty amazing spell - as another entry points out - but a spell to get all your cleaning done while you relax because you know a spell to put them to work? You have to admit that's pretty tempting.

Extendable Ears

via screencaps

I am sure there have been multiple times in your life when you wish you were able to listen in on a conversation. But for whatever reason you found yourself being unable to get yourself closer to the conversation to really show off your eavesdropping skills. Something that Harry definitely showed off on multiple occasions.

One of the most helpful inventions in the wizarding world for someone of Harry's nature is the Extendable Ears which work as a long chord that permits the sound to the user who can stay safely a few feet away.

the magical creatures

Probably, the thing that people would want most out of the magical world of Harry Potter are all the magical creatures. From the Nifflers that could find you gold, the Hippogriffs you can ride on, to the dragons that you can battle, the magical creatures of Harry Potter are definitely a huge part of the world that fans love.

Hagrid himself is a favorite, not only because of his kind personality and warm heart, but because of his love for these creatures that might have otherwise been misunderstood. And, let's all be honest, who would say no to a dragon?
