They’re beautiful, they’re rich and they love the runway. Here is a list of the top 10 highest paid models in the world in 2012.

10 Candice Swanepoel, $3.1 Million

Born on October 20, 1988, Candice Swanepoel is the youngest model on the top ten list of highest paid models in 2012. She began modeling at the age of 15 when she was signed to Elite Modeling Agency. The 23-year-old South African Model is best known for strutting her stuff for Victoria’s Secret. Additionally, Swanepoel represents brands like Prabal Gurung and Rag & Bone. When she is not doing any work for these companies, however, she can be found on the runway during Paris, New York and Milan Fashion Weeks.

9 Carolyn Murphy, $3.5 Million

An American model and actress, Carolyn Murphy was born on August 11, 1974. The 38-year-old Floridian holds contracts with big names such as Ann Taylor Loft and Tom Ford and was also featured in 2005 on the cover of the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. Murphy has slipped down one spot from her 2011 ranking. As the face of Estee Lauder since 2001 and the previous host of the second-season of Project Runway AllStars on Lifetime, however, Murphy has nothing to worry about where money is concerned.

8 Lara Stone, $3.8 Million

From the small town of Mierlo in the Netherlands, 29-year-old model Lara Stone pulled in a cool $3.8 million last year, making her the eighth top money-earner in 2012. Working for some of fashion’s biggest names including Versace, Calvin Klein, Donna Karan and Prada, Stone’s experience is endless. She has also done some work for Mercedes Benz in recent years and is constantly appearing in high fashion editorial photo shoots.

7 Miranda Kerr, $4 Million

Beginning in the modeling industry at the young age of 13, Miranda Kerr is making her first appearance in 2012 on the list of the top ten highest paid models. Rising to prominence as one of the Victoria’s Secret Angels, Kerr is the first Australian to secure a spot in the coveted campaign. Additionally, Kerr has launched a brand of organic skincare products called Kora Organics. She has also written a self-help book entitled, Treasure Yourself. Kerr is married to English actor Orlando Bloom and has one son, Flynn Christopher Blanchard Copeland Bloom.

6 Alessandra Ambrosio, $6.6 Million

Born April 11, 1981, this 32-year-old Brazilian model is best known for her work with Victoria’s Secret. Specifically, Ambrosio was selected to be the first representative of the company’s “PINK” line when it debuted a few years back. She has also modeled for brands such as Next, Armani Exchange, Christian Dior and Ralph Lauren. In addition to her fashion modeling, Ambrosio serves as an ambassador for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. She was also selected on AskMen.com as number 2 out of the “Top 99 Most Desirable Women” back in 2008.

5 Doutzen Kroes, $6.9 Million

Knocking Alessandra Ambrosio out of her position from last year is Doutzen Kroes, a 28-year-old Dutch model and actress. Kroes began working for Victoria’s Secret back in 2004, securing the position of an Angel in 2008. Since 2011, Kroes has shot major campaigns for L’Oreal and Tiffany & Co. In addition to all of her modeling jobs, Kroes is actively involved in the non-profit organization Dance4Life, a foundation that educates youth about HIV and AIDS prevention through song and dance.

4 Adriana Lima, $7.3 Million

This 32-year-old Brazilian model and actress is a long-time Victoria’s Secret model, securing her position as an Angel in 2000. Before signing with Elite Model Management in New York City, Lima won Ford’s “Supermodel of Brazil” competition and took second in the Ford “Supermodel of the World” competition. She also served as a spokes model from 2003 to 2009 for Maybelline cosmetics. She also starred in two Super Bowl commercials in 2012, and models for Donna Karan and Mavi jeans.

3 Natalia Vodianova, $8.6 Million

Shooting up 6 spots from her position as the ninth top earning supermodel in 2011, Russian model Natalia Vodianova seems to do a little bit of everything. Beginning at the age of 15, by the time she had reached 17 she was living in Paris and signed to Viva Models. This 31-year-old appears regularly in high fashion editorials and on catwalks. She is currently featured in campaigns for Guerlain and Calvin Klein fragrances. As the founder of the Naked Heart Foundation, Vodianova helps build play areas in poor areas of Russia as well.

2 Kate Moss, $9.2 Million

As someone who has been in the business a long time, 38-year-old Kate Moss is still in high demand. Moss is an English model that rose to fame in the early 1990's during the heroin chic fashion trend. As a style icon, Moss has jumped up one spot from third place in 2011 due to her extensive deals with different companies such as Rimmel, Longchamp, Mango and Vogue Eyeware. Although she is not found on the runways as much as she used to be, Moss still appears in some shows like the Louis Vuitton spring/summer 2012 show. Additionally, she can be found gracing the entire spread of a magazine from ads to covers. She has also developed a number of fragrances and her own clothing line, both of which have been rather successful. When she is exploring her non-fashion related talents, Moss is reported to engage in musical projects as well.

Leaps and bounds ahead of all others is Gisele Bündchen, a 32-year-old Brazilian model. Gaining notoriety as a Victoria’s Secret Angel from 2000 to mid-2007, Bündchen currently holds deals with companies such as Pantene, Esprit and Versace. This model has been created with bringing back “The Return of the Sexy Model”, effectively ending the heroin chic period of the 1990's. She has also developed her own line of sandals named Ipanema. Bündchen has been married to Tom Brady since 2009 and they were recently named among the world’s highest paid celebrity couples.
