Marah Carey: The Biography

Mariah Carey is an American singer, composer, producer, artist and philanthropist, born on March 27, 1969 in Long Island, New York.

This 44-year-old singer has an estimated net worth of $500 million dollars.

She was born out of the love of her parents Alfred Roy Carey (African-American/Venezuelan) and Patricia Hickey (Irish-America).

Mariah is a graduate of Greenlawn’s Harborfields High School.

She made her debut in the music industry in June 1990 with her self-titled album “Mariah Carey.”  It reached multi-platinum with her four singles: Vision of Love," "Love Takes Time," "Someday" and "I Don't Wanna Cry," landing on the no. 1 spot. This has led to her winning the Best New Artist and Best Female Vocalist in Grammy Awards.

Mariah made history when her 1993 album “Music Box”  went ten-time platinum on September 30, 1995. She was the first female artist to accomplish a number one debut in the U.S. with her single “One Sweet Day,” coming second after The Beatles to win numerous no. 1 albums and singles.

Mariah has accomplished a lot of “firsts” in her career as a performer, a total of 17 no.1 singles and still counting.

Grammy Award winning singer, most successful selling female artist, the only female artist with the most no.1 singles, and having straight no. 1 singles, you name it, and Mariah owns these records.

Over two decades of her career, she has sold more than 200 million records worldwide. Adding to her trophy collection are 5 Grammy Awards, 17 World Music Awards, 11 American Music Awards and 31 Billboard Music Awards.

This renowned  singer is known for her vocal powers, astounding musical style and  for her five-octave vocal range.

A philanthropist herself, Carey has devoted her time and money to various organizations such as Fresh Air Fund, Camp Mariah, Make-A-Wish Foundation, and other charitable institutions. She has also volunteered and served at the New York City Police Athletic League, the New York Presbyterian Hospital Cornell Medical Center­­­ and was named Hunger Ambassador of the World Hunger Relief Movement.

Mariah is happily married to rapper and media personality Nick Cannon, with their love resulting to lovely twins Monroe Cannon and Morrocan Scott Cannon.
