The British government stopped Kelly Clarkson from exporting the ring once owned by famous author Jane Austen out of the country. Culture Minister Ed Vaizey put an export bar on the item until Sept. 30, 2013.
“History nerd” Kelly winner purchased the gold and turquoise ring for $228,000 last year at the 2012 Sotheby's auction of English literature, history, children's books and illustrations in London.
The "Pride and Prejudice" and "Sense and Sensibility" novelist died at the age of 41 and any objects associated with her are considered a national treasure. This gives the government the authority to temporarily halt export of the ring until a British buyer comes forward to purchase the ring. The ban can even extend until December 30th while waiting for the buyer. The American native Kelly did agree to sell the ring .
The American Idol winner has a net worth of $24 million and was the very first winner of the reality talent show American Idol.
