10 Thrifty Celebs Who Save Their Millions

When we think of celebrities, we assume that they have a wild time with all of the millions that they've acquired from their movies, studio albums and television appearances. Often, we're right. After all, Johnny Depp has his own Caribbean Island worth over $6 million, according to Marie Claire Magazine. He's not the only one that makes extravagant purchases. Katy Perry, Brad Pitt and Rihanna are just three of many that have been known to throw their money around.

But what about the celebrities that make sure to save their money? They count every penny, wait for sales and use coupons. While it's not as common, some celebrities choose to live as if they don't have several million dollars sitting in the bank.

Today, we're talking about frugal celebrities that know how to save money. Read on for our list of 10 money conscience celebs.

It's hard to believe that a famous, rich celebrity would be wearing the same pants for over a decade, but that's the case with Rachael Ray. The celebrity chef, talk show host and cookbook author said in an interview with Bankrate.com, "I wear literally the same pants I've had for 10, 12 years. I still shop at T.J. Maxx and Marshalls and Target, and I do my own grocery shopping. I wander around in Adidas sweats and wear bluejeans most of the time. So my everyday life is very much the same." At that rate, she must keep most of her $60 million in net worth safely in the bank.

9 Carmelo Anthony Clips Coupons

Professional sports players are known for their extravagance. Still, while some are throwing money all over town, a select few still like to save money. Take Carmelo Anthony, for example. The New York Knicks small forward said in an interview with CBS 4 in Denver, Colorado, "I go to the supermarket, make sure I get the newspaper and tear the coupons out; save a dollar or two." Considering that he recently signed a 5-year $122 million contract with the New York Knicks, he should have enough money saved long after he enters retirement.

8 Sarah Michelle Gellar Counts Every Penny

Those of us who haven't experienced what it's like to be a millionaire might expect that we could afford to throw money around wherever we go. In truth, it's the frugal ones that keep their money for the long haul. For example, while Sarah Michelle Gellar has a personal net worth of $15 million--not counting husband Freddie Prinze Jr.'s contribution to the family coffers--she's still super frugal. She said in an interview with Self Magazine, "I take my reusable bag to Whole Foods so I get a discount. I go to Bloomingdale’s on double rewards day. And I always print my dry cleaning coupons before I go."

Of all the celebrities on this list, Jennifer Lawrence is the least surprising when it comes to being grounded in reality. The young movie star and Academy Award-winner told Fabulous Magazine, "I was raised to have value for money, to have respect for money, even though you have a lot of it. That’s why mini-bars are difficult, because it’s like yes, I can afford a $6 Snickers bar, but there’s just something wrong with that! I still drive my same car I’ve been driving for a long time and I haven’t bought a house yet." Shortly after that interview, she did acquire a new Chevy Volt, but that doesn't mean much has changed. In an interview with WDRB, Jennifer's mom said, "I don't even think she thinks about money. When she's home, she'll say, 'Dad, can I have $20 bucks to go to the movies?''

4 Leonardo DiCaprio Saves on Gas and Flights

Although Leonardo DiCaprio has always held a high place in Hollywood, he's been especially hot in the last few years. With that much acclaim--and a net worth of over $200 million--you'd expect that he'd have a large collection of gas-guzzling cars. Not so! He's actually a big fan of hybrid and electric cars. He owns a Toyota Prius worth $100,000, according to the Los Angeles Times. He's also the brand ambassador for Fisker Automotive and their line of hybrid plug-in vehicles. Leo doesn't just save money on gas. He's also been known to fly in coach on commercial airplanes rather than owning his own jet, which makes sense since he's so environmentally conscious.

3  3. Zooey Deschanel is an Expert Saver

Just because someone is famous, that doesn't mean they have to let everyone know how they spend their money. But, in the case of Zooey Deschanel, she did have to let the courts know her spending habits during her 2012 divorce from musician Ben Gibbard. According to the Huffington Post, Zooey has zero debt. While she makes around $95,000 a month, she saves 76% of her income. Most of us could learn a thing or two from miss Deschanel!

2 Jay Leno Doesn't Touch His Millions

It's hard to think of penny-pinching and frugality when it comes to former talk show host Jay Leno. After all, he's well known for his large classic car and motorcycle collection. In fact, it's reported that he has over 800 vehicles. Still, he says that these cars weren't purchased with the money he earned from The Tonight Show. During an on-air interview with Jerry Seinfeld, Jay said, "You know, when I was a kid, I always had two jobs, and I would bank one, and I'd spend the other. Then when I got The Tonight Show, I just continued to do that." For him, he's financed his car collection on money from stand-up comedy alone, and hasn't spent any of what he earned from The Tonight Show. He'll be set for the rest of his life even though he doesn't have his own show anymore.

1 Beyonce Has Invested Well

When you think of Queen Beyonce, you might think of extravagance. After all, she's a high class woman with a beautiful family and earnings of $115 million according to Forbes. Still, Bey hasn't taken any of that for granted. In an interview with the UK Mirror, the singer said, "I haven't bought a car since I was 16 or any diamonds since I was 17. I have a lot of property. I've invested my money and I don't have to make any more, thank God, because I'm set. I'm now able really to be free and just do things that make me happy." It sounds like her daughter, Blue Ivy, should be set for life as well.
