Known for his philanthropic deeds, 2 Guns star Denzel Washington benevolently donated $1 million to the Save Africa’s Children, an L.A.-based charity.
Founded by Bishop Charles E. Blake, Save Africa’s Children caters to orphans and vulnerable children throughout Sub-Saharan Africa and the Caribbean who are suffering from AIDS. It is also associated with churches, grassroots organizations, the government and private sectors.
The $1 million donation will help the organization fund for its 300 orphan care projects which include schools, day care centers and feeding programs to the African kids. Based on records, there are currently $17 million African kids orphaned due to HIV/AIDS.
Washington also funds his own organization, named after him and his wife, the Pauletta and Denzel Washington Family Gifted Scholars Program In Neuroscience. It provides scholarships to deserving students who want to pursue a career in neuroscience.
The 58-year-old American actor, film director and producer is famous for his breakout roles in Training Day, Inside Man, Malcolm X and Glory.
