Top 10 Largest Cities of China

China has more than 1.3 billion people based on population and is still the largest country in the world. About one fifth of the total world population lives in China. In China, there are more than 160 cities with over one million people. The top 10 cities with the most residents are spread all over China. Hong Kong has just over 7 million inhabitants and is the 11th largest city in China and so doesn't make it to the top 10.

10 10.) Nanjing - 7,165,828 people

The city of Nanjing is located in eastern China in the delta of the Yangtze River. The city has a long history and has played an important role in the culture of China. Nanjing was even the capital of China.

The city known as the "Sex Capital of China" is located in the Pearl River Delta. In addition, the world's largest shopping mall is located in Dongguan. However, most stores are empty. It is estimated that between 500,000 and 800,000 people working in in the sex industry.

Wuhan is the largest city in the center of China. It is also called the "Chicago of China” because it is a center of transportation in China. Many train tracks, roads and highways converge here. Wuhan is a very old city.

Shenzhen is a big city, which lies directly in north of Hong Kong. Shenzhen is best known for the Economic Zone. It is a modern city with many foreign companies and a major financial center for the region. Shenzhen is one of the fastest growing cities in the world.

The city is best known under the old name Canton. It is the capital of Guangdong province and is located in the Pearl River Delta. It is the administrative center of the region, along with the cities of Shenzhen and Dongguan. Guangzhou is also known as the Pearl River Delta Mega City.

Tianjin is located in the north of China, adjacent to Beijing. The city lies on the Gulf of Bohai and is an important port in China. The city is especially popular with large foreign companies keen to invest here.

Beijing is the center for administration, education and culture. It is one of the four historical capitals of China. Beijing literally means Northern Capital and is the administrative capital of China.
