How important are your dreams and goals? What are you doing to make them come true? Our aspirations for the future can inspire us and give us hope that our personal goals can improve the quality of our lives. While they are a great way to keep us motivated, the truth is that some of us will never live out what we want the most. This is even tougher when we know that we have no one to blame but ourselves (or at least it can feel that way).
No matter how you choose to define the word, we all know people that are very successful. Whether they are our family members, a neighbor, a person that made history, or a Hollywood super star. The one thing that all of them did that helped them to achieve their goals was their perseverance and their refusal to stop.
When the day comes that you discover your passion in life, there will be negative people and events that will have the chance to leave you discouraged. There will be times when you will feel that chasing your dreams is a waste of energy. Hold tight and don’t let go. In the words of Napoleon Hill “That is one of the tricks of opportunity. It has a sly habit of slipping in by the back door, and often it comes disguised in the form of misfortune, or temporary defeat.”
One of my personal goals was to write professionally and after a million no’s and a few companies that ended up saying yes, I finally made it. We don't always know the path we need to take, but if we know where our end destination is, it can make the journey easier to bear. This article is for everyone and anyone that needs motivation to make their dreams come true.
10 Write It Down And Believe It
When an architect is asked to help with building a house, what is one of the first things that they do? They design a blueprint.
9 Make A Dream Board
I remember in elementary school when my art teacher asked the class to cut out pictures from magazines and add them onto a Bristol board. We glued our favorite food, books, clothes and toys on the board, not realizing the purpose of the assignment. This was not only a perfect exercise but it helped us to keep imagining and focussing on what we enjoy.
8 Be Around People Who Inspire You
Joel Osteen couldn’t have said it any better. “You need to associate with people that inspire you, people that challenge you to rise higher, people that make you better. Don’t waste your valuable time with people that are not adding to your growth. Your destiny is too important.”
7 Never Stop Learning
Whether you have a Bachelor's degree, a Master’s degree or dropped out of school, the journey of education is constant. Never think for a second that you know everything. Every 5 years most industries experience significant changes that require additional learning. Other industries require continued learning every moment of the day.
6 Maintain A Healthy Lifestyle
When you spend most of your life doing things a certain way, it can be very very difficult to shake them off and try new things. A healthy diet and lifestyle will determine our future. The person that spends most of their life eating unhealthy food, chooses not to exercise and treats people badly might see some success in their life, but it will definitely be temporary. You can have all the money in the world, but if you are unhealthy, how long will you be able to enjoy it?
5 Stop Competing With Others
For the people that are reading this that are competing with other people, please stop wasting your time. There is no way that you can live the exact life of the people that you admire. If you are competing with someone out of jealousy, this will only keep you distracted. How can you focus on making your dream come true when you spend most of your time focusing on someone else? I can guarantee that this person doesn’t waste one second of their life examining why you are winning in certain areas.
4 Use Your Time Wisely
When you get home after business or work, watching TV probably takes up your entire evening. If you always wanted to become a world renowned painter, it would make sense to practice. I have friends that have successful businesses and they spend more time keeping it a success than anything else. This is because they believe that living their dream is the only way to live.
3 Embrace The Rainy Days
Right when everything is going in the right direction, an unexpected surprise shows up and it’s called a distraction. No matter how strong we are, a hater, rejection or a setback can deter us. Nothing in life comes easy. This applies to both Warren Buffett, who's a billionaire, and also to you and I.
2 Admire Your Role Models
Every successful person that is in our history books had at least one person in their life they looked up to. We all need help and guidance from a person that is at the level of success that we are aiming for. Do new dentists seek professional advice from a landscaper? Not that a landscaper will not give good advice, but a more experienced dentist will show them the ropes.
1 Tell Those Who Matter To You
There are people out there that will tell you to keep your dreams to yourself. This is not helpful in any way. I don’t suggest telling every person you meet about your goals if you know they cannot help you, but get into the habit of telling people that you trust. You never know what can happen. They might know someone that needs the product or service you are selling. Their sister might be an accomplished person in your field with a passion for helping others.
Tell the world and they will find a way to encourage you or will find a way to help you make it happen. Many of us want to see our family and friends improve their lives, but if you keep it a secret forever, no one will ever know.
I hope that this article will help you with whatever it is that you want in your life. Remember, you are the only person that can control whether you fly high or fall. The choice is and always will be up to you. Good luck!
