In recent years, marijuana consumption has become more and more accepted. Colorado and Washington have legalized the recreational use of the drug while Washington, Alaska and Washington, D.C. have legalized the medicinal use of the drug. Countless other states and municipalities have also moved to decriminalize weed.
The American public is generally becoming more accepting of marijuana use and are beginning to see the economic benefits of legalization and taxation. Gone are the days of "Reefer Madness" and zero tolerance. Instead, we are seeing a new breed of marijuana entrepreneurs finding innovative ways to distribute the drug to consumers that transcend the Cheech and Chong-influenced stereotypes of yesteryear.
This rising tide of legalization has brought with it a new crop of ultra-potent strains of pot. In the past, competitions like the High Times Cannabis Cup were the bellwether for judging the most awesome strains of bud. Although the Cannabis Cup is still going strong, new platforms for gauging the potency of certain strains have also begun to pop up. The most reliable of such sources is Leafly, which bills itself as "The World's Cannabis Information Resource."
Leafly is basically Yelp for weed. Reviewers give ratings out of five stars to various weed strains, the reviews are added together and the specific strain is given a mean score. For this piece I have ranked 10 of the world's strongest weed scores based on their Leafly scores. So, sit back, roll one up and check out this list of the dopest dope you'll ever smoke.
10 Alien Dawg F2 - Score of 4.1
9 Bruce Banner No. 3 - Score of 4.2
8 Head Cheese - Score of 4.3
7 Tahoe OG - Score of 4.3
6 Death Star - Score of 4.5
5 SFV OG Kush - Score of 4.5
4 Blue Cookies - Score of 4.6
3 OG Ghost Train Haze - Score of 4.6
2 Khalifa Kush - Score of 4.6
Khalifa Kush (or KK) is a strain grown specifically for rapper and avowed weed enthusiast Wiz Khalifa. Unfortunately, the purportedly hyper-potent strain is shrouded in a great deal of mystery. The strain is a hybrid with what's believed to be OG genetics, but conflicting reports can't seem to verify Khalifa Kush's direct lineage. Apparently, the strain is not available to the public and never will be, but some who have smoked varieties of the strain have noted strong similarities to OG Kush. Based on reports, the high is cerebral and good for daytime use, so the strain is assumedly Sativa-heavy. Mysteries aside, Khalifa Kush is a mythical strain said to have extremely powerful effects (and its Leafly rating seems to serve as verification). Check out Wiz's song, dedicated to his strain, below.
1 Nexus OG - Score of 4.8
Like Khalifa Kush, Nexus OG is also shrouded in mystery. The strain is an Indica-dominant hybrid (80 per cent Indica, 20 per cent Sativa) with unknown genetics. The strain competed in the 2014 Los Angeles Cannabis Cup and is noted for it's earthy and berry undertones. Although little is known about the strain, it's still regarded as one of the most powerful strains to emerge in recent years. Good luck getting your hands on it.
