She's an academy award winning actress who has starred in huge films such as, The Hunger Games, and X-Men: First Class. At the young age of twenty-three, Lawrence has garnered three academy award nominations and wins for her work in, Winter's Bone, American Hustle, and Silver Linings Playbook as well as winning two golden globes for her work in, American Hustle, and Silver Linings Playbook. She has been named one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time and the most powerful woman in the entertainment business in 2013 by Elle Magazine. There is no doubt she is Hollywood's it girl.
Jennifer Lawrence was born in Louisville, Kentucky to Gary and Karen Lawrence on August 15, 1990. Lawrence's father is a construction worker and her mother is a children's camp manager. She has two older brothers named Ben and Blaine. Lawrence attended Kammerer Middle School in Louisville and she already knew that she wanted to pursue an acting career. At the age of fourteen, she convinced her parents to take her to New York and find her an agent so she could begin her career. She even graduated from high school two years early in order to pursue her dreams. Her family provided a great support system for her and they eventually moved to Los Angeles to give Lawrence a shot at becoming a star.
7 Early Work
At the age of fourteen, Jennifer Lawrence spent a summer in Manhattan, trying to pursue her dreams. While she was there she earned small commercial and film roles but nothing big came out of it. Soon after, Lawrence's family relocated to Los Angeles. It was there that she got her first real job on The Bill Engvall Show. She played the oldest daughter, Lauren Pearson. Although the show was canceled after three seasons, Lawrence received praise for her work in it. She was even nominated for a Young Artist Award for Outstanding young performer in a TV Series. After the cancellation of The Bill Engvall Show she appeared in smaller movies such as The Burning Plain and The Poker House. In 2007, Lawrence auditioned for the role of Bella Swan in Twilight but lost the part to Kristen Stewart. She has since admitted that she's glad she didn't win the part.
6 Big Break
Lawrence's big break came when she played the lead role in Winter's Bone, Rees Bone. Rees Bone's character portrayed a young girl taking on the responsibility of caring for her mentally ill mother, younger brother, and sister. The movie garnered her a lot of attention. Rolling Stone said that, "her performance is more than acting, it's gathering a storm. Lawrence's eyes are a roadmap to what's tearing Ree apart." Lawrence received an academy award nomination for her work in the film, becoming the second youngest actress to ever be nominated for the best actress category, she is currently the third.
Since getting her big break in Winter's Bone, Lawrence has been in a variety of films ranging from low-budget projects, to blockbuster hits. In 2011 she appeared in the films, Like Crazy, The Beaver, and X-Men: First Class, in which she played Mystique, a shape-shifiting mutant. In 2012, Lawrence's star power rose even higher when she starred as Katniss Everdeen in The Hunger Games. At first, Lawrence was reluctant to take on the role of Katniss because of the high-profile nature of the film. Eventually, she decided to take the part and audiences everywhere have been thankful ever since. Los Angeles Times said that Lawrence was, "the best possible performer as Katniss and is the key factor in making 'Hunger Games' and involving popular entertainment with strong narrative drive that hold our attention."
In 2012, Lawrence starred in, The Silver Lining's Playbook, for which she won a golden globe and an academy award for her performance. Since then, Lawrence has appeared in American Hustle, for which she won a golden globe and received an academy award nomination, The Hunger Games: Catching Fire, and The House at the End of the Street. Additionally, Lawrence has a number of projects coming up. In 2014, she will appear in X-Men: Days of Future Past, the first part of Mockingjay, and Serena. She is also set to star in The Rules of Inheritance, East of Eden, Burial Rites, The Ends of the Earth, and The Glass Castle.
4 Endorsement Deals
Lawrence has recently signed a contract to be the new face of Dior. The contract entitles Lawrence to exclusively wear Dior on the Red Carpet and it is worth between $15 and $20 million dollars. Raf Simons, the creative director of Dior said he was in awe of Lawrence's, "youth and her classic beauty, but also her force of character and the complexity she's capable of embodying at such a young age." It seems that Dior wasn't too offended when Lawrence famously tripped over her fabulous Dior gown while walking up the stairs to accept her Oscar for best actress.
Anyone who has ever watched an interview with Jennifer Lawrence knows that one of her favorite hobbies is eating. At nearly every Red Carpet interview she always mentions being hungry, how good different types of food tastes, and frankly it's refreshing. It's great to watch a celebrity just be normal. In an interview with Marie Claire Magazine, Lawrence said, "At the end of the day there's nothing that makes me feel better than junk food and reality TV." It seems like despite the massive success that Lawrence has had, she's still a down to earth girl who just really likes to eat.
Lawrence met her on again off again boyfriend, Nicholas Hoult on the set of their movie, X-men: First Class. The couple started dating in 2011 but ended their relationship in 2013, after two years of dating. Since then the couple has rekindled their flame. They connected again while filming their movie, X-Men: Days of Future Past. The two have always been private about their relationship but recently, Hoult opened up in the upcoming issue of V Man about Lawrence. He said this about her success, "It is very odd, and I am kind of a bystander in many ways. It is well-deserved for her. I haven't really seen any change in her."
Despite Lawrence's success she still lives happily at home with her family in Santa Monica. The condo they live in is a two bed-room, three-bath, with a two car garage and a shared courtyard. It seems like with all of Lawrence's achievements, she is still just a down to earth girl.
