Yes, it's true that celebrities might be rich and famous, but all that money and fame comes at a price: their freedom. While they can usually jet off on a private plane to any city they wish, at any time they wish, it rarely comes without a hoard of paparazzi following them around. Paparazzi will try to gain any type of information then can when spotting a celebrity; this entails, snapping photos of them on their lunch dates, workout sessions, or even private affairs. But amongst all the craziness that comes with the paparazzi, some celebrities manage to handle them pretty well. Here's eight times where celebrities took advantage of the paparazzi, and not the other way around.
8 Dustin Hoffman
He is definitely no rookie when it comes to joking around whenever he can. Instead of letting them snap away, Dustin Hoffman got creative with the paparazzi and decided to have a little fun, playing peek-a-boo behind a postal drop off box. We can still see you, Dustin.
7 Benedict Cumberbatch
While British actor (and Sherlock star), Benedict Cumberbatch was out for lunch in New York City, he spotted the paparazzi snapping his photo and decided to have a little fun. He took napkins, attached them to the inside of his cap, and covered his face, topping off his mask with some sunglasses. The get-up didn't last too long, but the Hollywood star had some fun, and a few laughs, while the paparazzi were snapping away.
6 Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz
While out and about in Los Angeles after their honeymoon in 2008, Pete Wentz, bassist from Fallout Boy, decided to get a little funny with his face. With his wife Ashlee Simpson by his side, he attached a paper plate to his head that read, "Your ad could be here... Email: email@example.com." And if the paparazzi didn't like it, at least his wife surely got a good laugh. Pretty clever, Pete.
5 Adam Levine
While out and about one day, Maroon 5's Adam Levine decided to do some good, and take advantage of the paparazzi when they started snapping. Rather than going on as usual, and trying to avoid the distraction, Levine took advantage of the situation to turn it into something positive. They were going to take photos of him anyway, so why not spin it into something good? He held up a sign in support of donating to the Red Cross via text. Smart move, Adam.
4 Anne Hathaway and Adam Schulman
While these two may have copied another A-list couple a little lower down this list, they definitely made the most out of their stroll in Brooklyn, as paparazzi snapped away. Anne Hathaway and her husband, Adam Shulman, held up signs that read, "Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield had a great idea! Please check out: girleffect.org. feedingamerica.org and worldofchildren.org," while her hubby's sign was simple and sweet, wishing everyone a happy fourth of July.
3 Leonardo DiCaprio
Leo, is that you? In what's probably the strangest, and funniest paparazzi reactions, we can see Leonardo DiCaprio eating (or, well, trying to eat) a slice of pizza with a mask on his face, including sunglasses and a hat. The Wolf of Wall Street star will really do anything to stay away from the camera, with this being one of many silly get-ups. A quick Google search and you'll find good old Leo, walking around with a paper bag on his head, a closed umbrella over his face and neck, or a puffy winter jacket zipped all the way up to his eyes. Looks like someone's camera shy.
2 Benedict Cumberbatch... Again
Benedict Cumberbatch wins with this sign, which reads, "Go photograph Egypt and show the world something important." And he totally hit the nail on the head. Not only did he manage to cover his face with his awesome sign, he's simultaneously belittling paparazzi, who do nothing but essentially stalk celebrities all day long. Cumberbatch's sign reminds us all that, really, celebrities are so not important. There's much more out there deserving of our attention.
1 Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield
Taking the number one spot are Spider-Man stars, and boyfriend and girlfriend duo, Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield. They were one of the originals when it came to taking advantage of their celebrity status, and the paparazzi photographing them, by turning it into a good cause. Their signs read, "We just found out that there are paparazzi outside the restaurant we were eating in. So...why not take this opportunity to bring attention to organizations that need and deserve it? www.wwo.org www.gildasclubnyc.org. Have a great day!" Slick, guys. Very slick. And so very nice, too.
