Back in the day, there were some celebrities who were so wild, so out of control, and so notorious for their bad behaviour that no one would have batted an eye had they just faded into obscurity. But these former bad boys and girls of Hollywood have surprised us all by doing the unexpected – growing up and settling down.
and Extra correspondent Terri Seymour but seems to be perfectly happy with this new quiet life telling the Mirror, “It puts things in perspective having two people in my life who I am responsible for.”
9. Angelina Jolie
Remember when Angelina Jolie was…how can we put it mildly, a little bit…eccentric? Back in the day, strange stories about the Maleficent beauty would regularly fuel the tabloids whether she was publicly making out with her brother, wearing a vial of blood around her neck, or dishing about her mail order degree in funeral arrangement and organization. Angelina was not your average movie star – that is until she hooked up with her Mr. & Mrs. Smith co-star, Brad Pitt and ten years later, ‘Brangelina’ are still going strong. Now mama to a brood of six children, Jolie seems to have settled down and has become your average wife and mother – except she’s more beautiful, more rich and more famous than most of us will ever be.
8. Robert Downey Jr.
Once considered to be Hollywood’s most notorious bad boy, Robert Downey Jr. has come a long way from his days as a drug addicted felon in the 90s and early 2000s – a few of RDJ’s much publicized ‘adventures’ during this phase include driving naked in his Porsche on Sunset Boulevard in possession of heroin, cocaine and a .357 magnum and just four years later, the Iron Man star was once again found with cocaine – but at least this time he had the decency to put on a Wonder Woman suit. All jokes aside, the Oscar nominated actor has completely turned his life around – he’s been married to wife Susan for nearly nine years and recently announced via his Twitter that the couple’s second child (this time a girl) would be making her debut in November.
7. Nicole Richie
We first learned what a wild child Nicole Richie was when we watched her and former bestie, Paris Hilton wreak havoc on their reality show The Simple Life back in the early 2000s. Then there were the arrests, two to be exact – one in 2003 when heroin was found in her Mercedes (she subsequently attended drug rehab) and again in 2006 after driving the wrong way on a California freeway. Ironically, everything seemed to change when she fell in love with a rockstar. Good Charlotte’s Joel Madden swept Ms. Richie off her feet and her bad girl behaviour became a thing of the past. The couple tied the knot in 2010 and are the proud parents of two darling kiddies – Harlow, six and Sparrow, four.
6. Mark Wahlberg
The year was 1991 and teenage girls everywhere were going gaga over one Mark Wahlberg A.K.A Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch. Talk about a bad boy of rap. Younger brother to Donnie of New Kids on the Block fame, Mark was the complete opposite of the squeaky clean image his brother had spent years creating. This wild behaviour stems from his early years – he dropped out of school at the age of 14, began selling drugs and spent more than a month in jail when he was 16. But despite this unfortunate start, the former Calvin Klein underwear model chose the right path and did not let his past dictate his future. Now an A-list celebrity, Mark has been married to wife Rhea Durham since 2009 and is a doting father to four children.
Who would have thought Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi would ever hang up the leopard print mini skirt, say sayonara to the rum and cokes and settle down for good. But that’s just what everybody’s favourite Jersey Shore gal decided to do. In 2012, the 26-year-old gave birth to son Lorenzo and that same year announced her engagement to baby daddy Jionni LaValle. The couple are expecting their second child – a daughter later this year. The former party girl has seen her share of troubles including an arrest in 201o for disturbing the peace and in 2o11 while filming her reality show in Italy, being taken into custody after colliding with a parked police car. But those childish antics are a thing of the past – the future Mrs. LaValle seems to finally have grown up. “No matter what happens in life I will always be a strong mother for my son and future daughter,” she recently tweeted. “My life is you.”
4. Adam Levine
It’s common knowledge that where there’s a rock star, there’s sure to be an overload of beautiful women in the vicinity. And Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine is no stranger to getting attention from the ladies. The 35-year-old California native has become known as the poster boy for a ‘modelizer’ a term coined by Carrie Bradshaw on Sex and the City that describes Levine to a tee – a man who ONLY dates models. The Moves Like Jagger singer’s weakness tends to be not just your everyday runway model but those scantily clad, genetically blessed Victoria’s Secret Angels. But just when we thought Levine was slipping into Leo DiCaprio territory, he goes and does something shocking- gets married! And though the lucky lady Behati Prinsloo is, you guessed it, another VS model, the former serial dater claims this time it’s for real telling Jay Leno, “You know, I still don’t think you have to get married, unless you meet someone that makes you want to marry them. And then you marry them and it’s wonderful.”
3. Drew Barrymore
Drew Barrymore literally grew up before our very eyes – and boy, did the girl get into trouble! There were the substance abuse problems, a stint in rehab, and a ton of hard partying and reckless behaviour including a brief marriage when she was only 19. She posed nude for a bunch of magazines including Playboy and in 1995, made headlines when she climbed onto a shocked David Letterman‘s desk and flashed him. But Barrymore, 39, has come a long way from the troubled girl she once was. Though still free-spirited, those rebellious days appear to be over. She’s now married and the mama of two – Olive and Frankie, runs a successful production company Flower Films, is the founder of Flower Beauty and continues to light up the screen in whatever part she plays.
2. Matthew McConaughey
It’s no wonder with his rugged good looking Texas twang and easygoing personality, Matthew McConaughey is a huge star. Now married to gorgeous model Camila Alves and the father of three cuter than cute children, it’s hard to believe this Oscar winning actor was anything but the laid back family man he appears to be. But the 44-year-old A-lister once had a sordid past filled with your typical privileged Hollywood lifestyle – a string of famous girlfriends and a lot of hard partying which culminated in his now infamous arrest (disgruntled neighbours called the cops who found him dancing naked in his home while playing the bongos). In a recent interview with the UK’s Express, he revealed it was his wife and kids who led him to renounce his wild ways. “I had to grow up for them and for me. I enjoyed family life and want the same for them.”
1. Kate Moss
Catapulted into fame at the very young age of 14, it’s no wonder that supermodel Kate Moss chose a less than stellar path on the road to stardom. Barely after reaching puberty, she was travelling around the world unsupervised with drugs, sex and alcohol at her fingertips. At the age of 24, she entered rehab for alcohol addiction and seven years later, was in rehab yet again – this time for drugs after she made international headlines when photos were published of Moss reportedly snorting cocaine. Scandal ensued – the Brit lost many lucrative modelling contracts and many thought her career was over. But just one year later, Moss proved them all wrong and had amassed a slew of contracts with big name companies including Burberry and Calvin Klein. In 2011, the 40-year-old beauty married The Kills guitarist, Jamie Hince giving daughter Lila Grace 12, a pretty cool step-dad. And though she may not be ready to give up her rock ‘n’ roll lifestyle just yet, she’s managed to steer clear of controversy and focus on what she does best – modelling.
