10 Things The Very Near Future May Hold

Remember that magic 8 ball that we all had as a kid? We'd sit there and shake it until we got the answer we really wanted. We're all curious to what the future holds; any little decision you make in your life could ultimately lead you down a completely different path than another choice you could have picked. The future is scary and exciting, all at once.

As we round the midpoint of the 2014 year, it’s easy to take a step back, and see what is coming around the other bend. With all of the futuristic predictions being made my scientists, social media researchers, and of course, the help of creating the illusion of the future in movies, we can hopefully see what is coming down the road.

In this list, you'll find the top futuristic theories that are being predicted to come our way in 2015 and beyond, and what certain popular movies think will take place in our very near future. Grab your thinking cap, and prepare to dive into the world of tricky predictions.

10 Cars with Autopilot

via io9.com

We've all imagined how it would be to not have to drive, and let the car completely take over. It’s projected that by the year 2020, we'll all be on our way as a population to have the cars do the work for us. If that makes you a little nervous, you're not the only one. In theory, it would help stop car accidents and drunk driving, but there are always little bugs to work out.

9 Back to the Future Part II: Year 2015

If you haven't seen this classic movie, then you're going to need to after you read this. This movie was created and produced back in 1989, but already was making predictions at how the future might be. In the movie, we see the main characters travel into the future, to the year 2015—less than a year away from us. In the movie, they had flying skateboards, hover crafts, and a definitely weird fashion statement. Obviously, those things won't be happening within the next year, but it was worth a good shot.

8 Flying Cars

Scientists and engineers have been trying for quite some time to make this thought a reality. Flying cars are hopefully projected to start manufacturing around 2040—20 or so years from now. Let’s all cross our fingers at the crazy thought of people flying cars and not crashing into one another.

7 Bicentennial Man

Remember this Robin Williams movie? This movie was released in 1999, and had a lot of big accusations to make about what the future may look like. The movie started in the then future of 2005, and worked its way up to the year 2205 (almost 190 years from now!).  This movie predicted that by 2005, all families would have androids in their homes, to perform housekeeping and maintenance duties; how far from the truth that was, and basically, still is. Projecting more into their predicted future means these androids becoming more “human-like” and actually get recognition from the World Congress as being “human” and allowed to marry. Let’s keep our eyes peeled for this in the future.

6 Brainwave Controls

Hasn't it always been the dream of every human being to not have to get up to change the channel on the TV, or control the volume? Well, in the distant future, scientists are looking at ways that machines can produce our brain waves, to get other machines to work. A way this could possibly work is implanting microchips under the skin, which has also been debated. We've seen such comparisons happen with Christopher Reeves, and his impact on stem cell research that helped with his physical disabilities. Who knows? Maybe we're on our way closer to that than what we think.

5 Surrogates

This film was based on the comic book series by the same name, and was played by Bruce Willis. This film was set in the year 2054, and had the interesting idea of surrogates given to every human being, that was sent out as the better and most beautiful version of yourself out into the world, while you were at home, watching it happen; almost like a virtual video game. This prediction is not so far-fetched either; think about all of the new virtual reality games taking storm (ever heard of Oculus Rift?).

4 Portable Laser Pens

Okay, don’t think of the Star Wars Lightsabers when you envision what these babies can look like. It’s said that by 2017, these awesome little gadgets will be on the market! Essentially, they're designed for people that are adrenaline junkies, and are far away from the nearest help, and need immediate health attention. An example given was a hiker that busts their knee open, and is gushing blood. These portable laser pens would be capable of sealing you back up, and will keep you safe until you reach professional help.

3 Crash-Proof Cars

via moliversite.wordpress.com

Linking back to the flying cars, or the automated driving cars, there is hope out there that we can eliminate car crashes altogether. Volvo has promised that by the year 2020, they will have engineered crash-proof cars. How will this be done? They've looked at using radar, sonar, and driver alert systems. With too many people dying on the road, this is quite the anticipated technology.

2 Multiple Monitors

Sick and tired of just that one TV in your bedroom that you can't see while you're getting ready in the bathroom? The newest innovation that is talking about taking sweep is the multiple touch-sensor monitors around your home. Think of Tony Stark in the movie Iron Man and how he could touch anything and everything and have his information up and ready for him, you'll be ready to view the news, or entertainment, from anywhere around your house.

1 EMT Service in Your Car

via www.granitefallshealthcare.com

Cars now have the ability to call for help if you're ever lost or in a car accident. Now scientists and engineers are looking at implementing a new system that will help inform paramedics better to the injuries you may be facing; helping with better reaction time and quicker decision making.

I don't know about you, but most of these technologies expected to impact our future sound pretty exciting. Of course, all of these are tentative, and predictions, but that doesn't mean we can't get excited about it. If you're an innovator, start getting your ideas out there! There are no bad ideas, just small ideas that can become even greater.
