We all know pregnancy changes a woman's body in ways that can sometimes seem impossible to come back from. Weight gain causes stretch marks, loose skin, and that extra 10 pounds that just refuses to go away. But needless to say, having a baby makes it all worth it in the end.
For some women, getting their pre-pregnancy body back is a top priority, while for others, they would rather spend their time and energy on other things. Some women drop their pregnancy weight without struggling too much, while others have to give their diet plan and exercise regime a complete overhaul.
Luckily, for celebrities, being in great shape is often part of their job, so they have to devote time to it. They also have the best trainers and nutritionists at their disposal, and the motivation of a big movie role they need to get into shape for. Not to mention they can hire a nanny to take care of the baby while they're working out. Not everyone has that luxury.
Celebrity moms are constantly being scrutinized for their bodies, and if they don't measure up to the standards of Hollywood, they face ridicule. Kelly Clarkson for example, has take a lot of criticism for not losing all her baby weight immediately, but she chooses to take the high road, and focus on her new daughter, instead of fitting into the ridiculous standards of women's bodies. Nevertheless, some celebrities manage to look amazing after giving birth, and they deserve credit for all the hard work they had to do to get there.
10 Hilary Duff
Hilary Duff gave birth to her son, Luca in 2012, and she wasn't one of those celebrity moms who was flaunting how great her post-pregnancy body was immediately. She took some time out of the spotlight, but was still criticized for not losing her baby weight. Instead of crash dieting and working out like crazy, she chose to lose close to 50 pounds in a healthy way. She was on the cover of Health magazine (pictured above) in December 2014, and she talked about taking a year and half to get her body back. She did a lot of boxing, and running, and says she's finally proud of her athletic build instead of worrying about every single pound.
9 Jennifer Lopez
Jennifer Lopez has always been known for her body, and even after giving birth to twins in 2008, you would never know she was ever pregnant at all. In the December 2014 issue of Self magazine she showed off her dancer's physique, and talked about dancing being her #1 workout of choice. She may have her perfect body back now, but at first she had the same "jiggly belly" of every formerly pregnant woman. She got right back into the routine of working out though, and started training for a triathlon that she completed 6 months after giving birth.
8 Heidi Klum
Not many people can give birth three times in as many years and still manage to have the body of a supermodel. Not only did Heidi Klum do that, but she continued to walk in the Victoria's Secret fashions show as an Angel. She also hosted the fashion show in 2002, 2006, 2007, and 2009. To get her body back after her pregnancies, Klum worked with celebrity trainer, David Kirsch, and focused on light cardio workouts, and circuit training. Klum modelled in the Victoria Secret fashion show in December 2007, only one short year after her third child, son Johan, was born.
7 Kim Kardashian
Kim Kardashian took a lot of heat for how much weight she gained (and her fashion choices) during her pregnancy with daughter, North. She was the target of intense scrutiny for months, but in reality, her body was similar to a lot of other expectant mothers. She didn't waste any time getting her famous body back in shape after her daughter was born. She had the benefit of a personal trainer, and chef, and her workout regime reportedly included 100 squats every morning. She debuted her perfect bikini body only 5 months after giving birth, and has since done a couple nude photo shoots.
6 Jessica Alba
5 Alessandra Ambrosio
Another former Victoria's Secret Angel, Alessandra Ambrosio had no problem continuing to model during her pregnancies. She walked in the 2011 Fashion Show while pregnant with her second child, son Noah, and also posed nude. She told Self magazine that when she first started modeling, she never worked out. But after giving birth to her daughter, Anja in 2008, she had to work hard to get her body back in order to walk in lingerie runway shows. In 2012, only 7 months after giving birth, she was chosen to wear the fantasy bra at the VS Fashion Show.
Beyonce is often considered the epitome of sex appeal. She loves to show off her curves, and she works hard to look the way she does. She gave birth to her daughter, Blue Ivy in 2012, and worked to lose 65 pounds by relying on a strict protein-based diet, running, and lots of dancing for cardio. About the videos for her visual album, Beyonce, which she surprise released at the end of 2013, she said "I was 195 pounds when I gave birth. I lost 65 pounds. I worked crazily to get my body back. I wanted to show my body. I wanted to show that you can have a child and you can work hard and you can get your body back.'
3 Zoe Saldana
Zoe Saldana gave birth to twin boys, Bowie and Cy, in November 2014, but she still showed up at the Academy Awards in February looking like her old self. She told US Weekly that a huge part of dropping the initial baby weight is eating healthy and breast feeding. With two babies to feed, she had to make sure she was getting enough nutrition for herself, and them every single day. She also incorporates her kids into her workouts by having them around while she lifts weights. "Babies find us just as amusing as we find them, Thank God for that," she said.
2 Jessica Simpson
Jessica Simpson has always taken a lot of criticism for her weight, especially when she was pregnant. Of course, that didn't stop her from showing off her baby bump during her pregnancy with second child, son Ace. Since giving birth in 2013, she's been working out with celebrity trainer, Harley Pasternak, focusing a lot on leg and butt toning exercises. She also joined Weight Watchers as a spokesperson, and reached her goal weight with the help of their program.
Shakira's signature move is her belly dancing. That means after she gave birth to her first son in 2013, she wanted to get her abs back into shape as soon as possible. She worked with trainer Anna Kaiser using a dance-inspired workout that mixed high-intensity cardio and strength training to shed the pounds and tone up. She gave birth to her second son in January 2015, and is sure to be debuting her flawless abs again in no time.
