Dogs, watch out - men just may have found a new best friend in the cat. With their unique personalities, independent spirit and of course, their unequivocal cuteness, who wouldn't want to have a feline sidekick?

Since ancient times, cats have been bunking with people. Scientists believe that humans didn't actually domesticate cats, instead cats just decided to invite themselves in, and people fell in love with their rodent control capabilities and their amicable personalities. Since then, cats have found themselves woven within human history and folklore - from Egyptian gods to Salem witches.

Today, of course, there's the crazy cat lady myth, but it turns out everyone can be crazy about cats. Author and cat man, John Scalzi sums his view on men and pets. He told the NY Times, "If you’re feeling insecure about your space in the world, you get a dog because he will always back you up. He’s the insecure man’s best friend.” A man who own cats, however, is confident and secure. "He's sharing his space with a predator." With that in mind, who says cats are just for old women? Felines make the perfect pet for every demographic, including these Hollywood men.

This British comedian and the driving force behind, The Office likes to spend his free time with his Siamese cat, Ollie. Gervais posts countless pictures of his blue-eyed pet on Twitter with funny captions like, "Furry alarm clock for sale. Wakes you up at about 8am every morning when it's hungry by sniffing your eye." Gervais even takes selfies with Ollie, writing, "I love my cat."

This adorably geeky actor is known for playing the lead in The Social Network, Zombieland and Adventureland, but when he's not on set, he spends his time as a cat foster. At the beginning of 2011, Eisenberg told Conan O'Brien, "I have two now, but I'm on a list where they can deliver them to the house. To be a foster parent for cats is basically to have tenants coming in and out. I have a lot of cats, a lot of cat food, a lot of litter — and nothing else in the apartment." Eisenberg said it's really crowded in his small New York City apartment with all the cats and cat supplies. He summed it up, "My life is basically just feeding and cleaning cats."

Aerosmith guitarist, Joe Perry may be a tough rock n roll musician, but that doesn't mean he can't a have a soft spot for his kitty. Perry got his Maine Coon, named Icon, as a present to his wife several years ago, but we know he secretly wanted the cat for himself. In 2012, Perry tweeted that Icon is "more than a cat" to him. Aww!

6 Cee Lo Green

Singer, rapper, and The Voice judge, Cee Lo Green is also a feline fanatic. Green featured his fluffy white rescue cat, Purrfect, in promos for the 2012 season of The Voice, which caused her to rise to fame herself. Purrfect has her own Twitter account with almost 53,000 followers. Green said she sends tweets from her "iPawd." As well as appearing on The Voice, Green and Purrfect also teamed up to create the new Meow Mix jingle. Green said of the opportunity, "Purrfect was thrilled to hear about this new deal with Meow Mix cat food. That sultry purr of hers is perfect for a modernized remix of the iconic Meow Mix jingle. Watch out cats!"

After going through a tough divorce with pop princess Katy Perry, all Russel Brand wants to do is hang out with his cat, and who can blame him? The English actor likes nothing more than to hang around in his L.A. home with his feline friend, Morrissey. Brand described how they spend their time together, "Most days I'm in my pants with my cat looking out of the window eating a bowl of cereal.'' Brand loves Morrissey so much that he even has a portrait of him hanging in his home, which he showed on The Ellen Show in his homemade cat video. Brand filmed Morrissey lounging on the couch, but he says the cat doesn't spend all of his time relaxing. ''All he wants to do is go out and ruthlessly slaughter God's creatures - moles, lizards, birds, rats, mice. He's a gangster, that cat."

Actor David Krumholtz, from The Santa Clause and 10 Things I Hate About You has three pets in total: one dog and two cats. As well as spending time with them, he loves showing them off to the internet. In 2011, when The Playboy Club was cancelled, Krumholtz tweeted a picture of his cat making an angry face with the caption, "My show was cancelled today and this is how my cat feels about it." Krumholtz also posts videos of his cats to his YouTube channel. In one, he films one of his cats following him to the park. She was jealous that the dog got a walk and she didn't!

When Michael Hall isn't pretending to be a murderer on Dexter, he's hanging out with his two best friends - his cats Preacher and Ford. He admitted to People Magazine, "I spend a lot of time with my cats. They're both boys, and they're very affectionate." Hall has had a tough past few years, battling with cancer and going through a divorce with his wife, so he knows better than anyone, that nothing is more therapeutic than relaxing with a couple of cats. "They're my four-legged friends," is how Hall describes his relationship with Preacher and Ford.

Somerhalder loves his orange feline, named Moke, so much that he refers to him as his kid rather than his pet. Somerhalder got to pose with his baby for a spread in People Magazine. He told them he wakes up every morning with Moke on his face. Somerhalder said his cat is "like Valium" because "he sedates me." As well as loving his own cat, Somerhalder founded a foundation that takes in abused animals and pairs them with bullies and victims of bullies, in order to foster healthy relationships. The Ian Somerhalder Foundation's site explains,"We know in our hearts that animals and bullies share common emotional baggage. For example, an abused and neglected pitbull has the power to transform a school bully into a compassionate leader."
