One could understand why medical experts would urge people to not drink coffee. Caffeine that is found in coffee can be an addictive drug, one that could negatively affect your heart. It must also be noted that any amount of coffee is not all that great for you if you add sugar and high-calorie creamers that contain a plethora of harmful ingredients to the drinks. The truth of the matter is that coffee is healthiest when it is consumed black.

You likely learned in school how important it is to have a diet that is filled with foods that contain antioxidants. Eating your fruits and vegetables can be important for achieving this goal. According to researchers at the University of Scranton (Pennsylvania), coffee is not only filled with antioxidants. Coffee is, per that study, “the number one source of antioxidants in the U.S. diet.” Assuming that the study was not flawed and that the information that was learned from it is accurate, that study would explain why coffee has been linked with other health benefits.
Melanoma is a type of skin cancer that can, at its worst, be lethal. Coffee is just one food item that could help you avoid having to deal with this worry. According to a study posted by the Oxford Journals early in 2015, drinking coffee can result in what that study called a “modest decrease” in risks of melanoma. Those who routinely drink coffee should not, of course, take this information as a reason to sit out in the sun for hours at a time during the summer months. For what it’s worth, those involved in this study drank fewer than four cups of coffee per day.
7. Reduce Stress
Those who drink cup after cup after cup of coffee in a day may find that they feel anxious or “jittery” because of the amount of caffeine that they have consumed. A person who is looking to reduce feelings of stress could, however, simply use their noses. According to Ed Edelson of the Washington Post, a study found that merely smelling coffee beans could reduce stress in some subjects. You know those classic television commercials that have featured people emphatically smelling that first cup of coffee? Maybe those companies were onto something, after all.
6. Heart Disease
Your first thought on this matter may be that coffee cannot possibly be good for your heart because of the caffeine that is in your favorite beverage. According to a piece that has been posted on the BMJ Publishing Group website, moderate coffee consumption led to what a study called “a lower prevalence of subclinical coronary atherosclerosis.” Once again, it must be stressed that the word “moderate” is in place for a reason. Nobody is recommending that you drink an entire pot of coffee every day that you are at the office. A couple of cups per day could, however, lower your risk of heart disease.
Those who follow former professional wrestler and current Hollywood megastar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson across social media websites know that he has enjoyed some coffee before completing his epic workouts. Gretchen Reynolds of the NY Times once explained that Rock knows what he is doing. A study found that the caffeine that is found in a black cup of coffee has “fatigue-delaying and mood-enhancing benefits.” Before you immediately think about going to Starbucks before you hit up the gym, remember that a heavy coffee drink could make you feel full before your workout. That could be a bad thing.
4. Liver Disease
Beer and coffee. They are two gifts from the Beverage Gods that have been delivered to mere mortals. While drinking beer and other alcoholic beverages could damage your liver, coffee and tea could have a different effect. According to a piece found on GastroJournal.org, drinking coffee and tea have been linked with decreased risks of chronic liver disease. While you probably do not want to match coffee and liquor shot-for-shot, it is a positive to know that you could be giving your liver a needed boost after a rough night out at the bar.
Anybody who has ever witnessed a family member or loved one have to deal with Parkinson’s disease knows how serious and how awful it is. The findings of a study that has been posted on the Journal of the American Medical Association provided some good news for those who are concerned about this disease. That study claimed “that higher coffee and caffeine intake is associated with a significantly lower incidence of PD.” It was believed, per the study, that it is the caffeine that is found in coffee that had the biggest factor in the decreased risk for Parkinson’s.
Here is one that may not have come to your mind. According to a study that was completed by the Harvard School of Public Health, drinking coffee has been linked to a lower risk of suicide. Additional information from that study:
Caffeine not only stimulates the central nervous system but may act as a mild antidepressant by boosting production of certain neurotransmitters in the brain, including serotonin, dopamine, and noradrenaline. This could explain the lower risk of depression among coffee drinkers that had been found in past epidemiological studies, the researchers reported.
The National Institute of Health once reported that drinking coffee could make you feel happier. Just as interesting as this is the fact that it is not just the caffeine that was a factor. Consuming certain sweetened beverages, according to the study, increased depression risk. Drinking coffee, however, could lower the risk of depression. Everybody wants to be happy.
