Late actor Heath Ledger’s Levi’s 501 that he wore in the 2005 cowboy, romantic movie Brokeback Mountain brought in $21, 013 at a Los Angeles costume auction, during the 140th anniversary of the first pair of 501 jeans.
He earned both, the Best Actor Golden Globe and Oscar nominations, with his portrayal of Ennis Del Mar, a cowboy from Wyoming who had an affair with Jack Twist (played by Jake Gyllenhaal).
Nate D. Sanders auction house sold the 34 x 36 inch Levi’s together with a pair of leather gloves with “Ennis” written on them in black faded marker.
The event also served a fitting tribute to founder Levi Strauss. A pair of distressed Levi’s trousers worn by Luke Skywalker in the first Star Wars movie was sold for $36,100. Its original value was estimated between $70,000 and $100,000.
Heath Ledger passed away in 2008 at the age of 29. The last role he played on screen was the Joker in the 2008 action film The Dark Knight.
