Will Smith Biography

Willard Christopher Smith or simply Will Smith is a successful actor, producer and rapper. He has been nominated for four Golden Globe Awards, two Academy Awards and has won four Grammy Awards. He was called the “most powerful actor in Hollywood” by Newsweek in April 2007.

Will Smith has not only been successful in his career but also as a family man, a husband to Jada Pinkett Smith  and father to kids: Jaden and Willow, and Trey Smith from ex wife Sheree Zampino. Will Smith has kept his marriage to Jada for 16 years and counting.

Early Life

Will was born in West Philadelphia on September 25, 1968 and brought up Baptist. Raised by parents Willard Christopher Smith, Sr and Caroline Bright in a house that was focused on a well rounded education. Will had no intentions of going to college, for he wanted to be part of a rap hip hop duo with childhood friend Jeffrey Downes "DJ Jazzy Jeff". He became a successful rapper during the late 1980s and won his first Grammy Award in the rap category in 1988. He could not manage his money and ended up owing  $2.8 million to the IRS until NBC approached him in 1989 with the idea of him starring in a show about his life.

His popularity rose when he starred in the show: The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air in the 90’s. Fresh Prince was an NBC sitcom that ran for six successful years, from September 1990 to May 1996. Starting off as the main character of the show, later becoming a producer of several episodes. The show was focused around Will's real life story, a rapper that grew up in Philadelphia.

Will Smith Movies 

After Fresh Prince, Will focused his time on movie production. His films in the 90’s were blockbuster hits,  his eight consecutive films grossed over $100 million in the box office over $150million in the international box office. In 2012, his films Ali and The Pursuit of Happiness grossed $6.36 billion in the global box office on which he also receive Best Actor nominations for.

His first major roles were in drama at Six Degrees of Separation in 1993 and an action film Bad Boys in 1995. The following year, 1996, Will lead the cast in Roland Emmerich's Independence Day, a massive blockbuster hit. He was honored at Grauman's Chinese Theatre on Hollywood Boulevard on December 10, 2007 which he left an imprint of his hands and feet outside the theater in front of his fans.

 I am Legend was considered "aggressively unique” cemented Smith’s standing as the number one box office draw in Hollywood. He was selected as one of America’s top ten most fascinating people of 2008  by Barbara Walters, ABC special that aired on December 4, 2008.

His most recent films were Men in Black III which opened on May 25, 2012 and After Earth, with his son Jaden which will be release on May 31, 2013.
