Ever since it was announced that there was going to be a Fifty Shades of Grey film adaptation, the media was quick to throw names of actresses who could take on the female lead character of Anastasia Steele. Names such as Kristen Stewart, Krysten Ritter and Emma Watson were rumored, but it was Emma Watson's name who lingered the longest as the possible star for the film adaptation. Today we learned that Emma Watson may not be starring in the film as the first rumors said she would. On her Twitter she asked fans "Who here actually thinks I would do 50 Shades of Grey as a movie? Like really. In real life," . Many fans responded that she did not look like the type of person who would. Moments later she posted, "Good. Well that's that sorted then."

Fifty Shades of Grey the first book of three, Fifty Shades Darker and Fifty Shades Freed follow, which started as fan fiction for the Twilight series , went on to be one of the best sellers in 2011 and 2012. Universal Pictures and Focus Features secured the rights to the books and are still in talks of who will star. Producers of The Social Network, Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti have signed to produce, American Psycho writer Bret Easton Ellis has signed to write the screenplay. E.L. James will have some control of the creative process during the production of the film.
