Comedian and daytime talk show host Ellen DeGeneres announced last Friday Aug 2 2013 via the twitter.
"It's official: I'm hosting the #Oscars! I'd like to thank @TheAcademy, my wife Portia and, oh dear, there goes the orchestra,"
"I am so excited to be hosting the Oscars for the second time. You know what they say - the third time's the charm," DeGeneres said in the Academy's statement.
It will be recalled that Ellen hosted the Oscars 2007 saving the show from flat reviews for Jon Stewart in 2006. Ellen has also hosted the 2001 Emmy Awards. And for the second time, she’ll host the 86th Academy Awards.
The 85th Academy Awards was hosted by Seth MacFarlane who got some negative response from his jokes and punch lines, not to mention the ceremony went for too long.
He was dubbed as “Funny, Sexist, Sassy, Awkward” according to CNN.
USA Today's review called MacFarlane's hosting performance "self-indulgent," noting that "Oscars fans have seen a lot over the years, but this may be the first time they've ever seen a host use the awards to audition for his own variety show."
The Atlantic captioned its story "The Banality of Seth MacFarlane's Sexism and Racism at the Oscars"
The famous motion picture, television and theater producing team Craig Zadan and Neil Meron will produce the Oscars for a second time in 2014.
The producers of the show said in a statement "We are thrilled to have Ellen DeGeneres host the Oscars, "As a longtime friend, we had always hoped to find a project for us to do together and nothing could be more exciting than teaming up to do the Oscars."
"There are few stars today who have Ellen's gift for comedy, with her great warmth and humanity. She is beloved everywhere and we expect that the audience at the Dolby Theatre, and in homes around the globe, will be as excited by this news as we are," they added.
DeGeneres is well known to have a long account of well-received hosting jobs.
The 86th Academy Awards show is something to watch out for, it will be held on March 2, 2014 on ABC via live telecast.
