Daenerys Targaryen, Khaleesi, Daenerys of the House Targaryen, the First of Her Name. And so on. One of Game of Thrones’ central characters, Daenerys Targaryen has both men and women alike crushing on her. With her long, silver hair, she is stunningly beautiful, matching her description in the books to a tee. It just so happens that she is on one of the most skin-tastic characters on television at the moment, which is always a bonus.
Even hotter than her good looks and stripped down scenes, however, is arguably her character. Throughout six seasons of the show, we have witnessed the slow build of her rise from a lowly, repressed object under her own brother to the independent and powerful Queen of Mareen. She is empathetic and her drive for justice sees her emancipating slaves in Slaver’s bay, a large plot line on the show. She has no time for oppressors. It is no wonder that Daenerys is one of the fan favorites on the show. She is a good girl. With a woman as hot as Daenerys Targaryen, in all respects, how could we not compile a list of her hottest pictures? Do enjoy.
12 Riding Dragons
What could be hotter than a woman, well, riding a dragon? This was a long time coming - five seasons, in fact. This was an intense moment - moments before Daenerys becomes the first Targaryen to ride a dragon in over a century, we brace ourselves for the possibility of one of our favourite characters going to the Game of Thrones graveyard just before she tells Drogon to fly and they make a narrow escape. Needless to say, this was a very cool moment on the show.
11 Mother Of Dragons
This picture captures one of Daenerys' most awesome moments - when she becomes the “mother of dragons” after walking into a burning pyre and living to tell the story - a very gripping ending to the first season. What could possibly be hotter than a woman who is the mother of dragons? In fact, the entire episode was a very powerful one: it was the same episode in which Daenerys finally puts an end to Khal Drogo’s misery by smothering him with a pillow and then freeing the slaves, allowing them to become equal.
10 Daenerys Is Not Giving Her Consent
Daenerys Targaryen isn’t going to be anyone’s sexual gift, thank you very much. In the first episode of season 6, she puts Khal Moro in his place after the Khal threatens to r*pe her. But Daenerys is not giving her consent. She even had the guts to say this even though her hands were bound in rope. She says: “I will not lie with you. And I will bear no children, for you or anyone else. Not until the sun rises in the west and sets in the east." What could be hotter? It was one of Daenerys’ most powerful moments in the show so far. Even though the show is set in medieval times, the issue rings true today with the ongoing discussion around the importance of consensual relationships.
9 From Rags To Riches
This image captures Daenerys in her wedding dress in season one of Game of Thrones. It has been suggested that her outfits are symbolic of the state of the character. Not only does she look beautiful here, but her outfit also hints at her rise of power in her relationship with Khal Drogo, who, over time, begins to respect her and treat her with dignity. In the first few episodes of the show, Daenerys wore thin and almost see-through outfits, revealing her vulnerability. However, her wedding dress begins to cover more of her body and her growing strength is hinted at in the picture above. Pretty hot, right?
8 “The Next Time You Raise A Hand To Me..."
In the fourth episode of the first season of Game of Thrones, Daenerys is finally regaining some power. After she “talks back” to her brother, he proceeds to slap her in the face and call her a s***. For the first time, she strikes back and tells him in no uncertain terms that: “The next time you raise a hand to me will be the last time you have hands.” After all, she tells him she is the “Khalessi of the Dothraki. I am the wife of the great Kahl and I carry his son inside me.” This is another one of Targaryen’s early powerful moments on the show.
7 In Bed With Daenerys
In this episode, when Daenerys takes Daario to bed, the playing fields are made a little more equal when it comes to power in sexual relationships in a show where women are degraded, abused and assaulted so often. It is Daenerys who tells Daario to take off his clothes. In fact, a lot of people have been hoping for these two to get together, evidenced by the sheer amount of fan fiction written about the two of them. Daenerys’ attraction to Daario finally gets the best of her and the mounting sexual tension between them reaches its inevitable end, despite her loyalty to Khal Drogo.
6 Drop Dead Gorgeous
How absolutely drop dead gorgeous does Daenerys look in this scene? In the first book, however, Daenerys lost all of her hair in the fire. She is also supposed to have purple eyes, but Emilia Clarke found them too uncomfortable. In any case, it is difficult to believe that Clarke wasn’t HBO's first choice. It was actually Tamzin Merchant. There is another interesting fact about Daenerys - in the novel, she is only thirteen years old - in the first season, however, HBO decided to make her 15 years old to avoid any controversy regarding any scenes with someone who was underage. Clarke was actually 25 at the time.
5 She Will Set Them Free
This scene, from Season 3 of Game of Thrones, shows Daenerys Targaryen at perhaps the height of her #girlpower. She is in Slaver’s Bay, rescuing all of the slaves there in an effort for justice. What could be hotter than a woman seeking peace? Interestingly, this season caused a lot of controversy in the episode when Daenerys is surrounded and being carried by all of the slaves. Some say it was one of her most powerful moments on the show while others rejected the idea, stating that it plays on the problematic "white man as savior" theme.
4 From Shame To Strength
A naked Daenerys is sure to cause quite a bit of thrill. At the same time, however, the context here is rather bleak: Daenerys is about to be sold into marriage by her brother who abuses her in more ways than one. Nevertheless, this picture is important in the rise of Daenerys from a place of extreme indignity to a force to be reckoned with.
The topic of the ever present nudity in Game of Thrones is a very popular topic, especially when it comes to Emilia Clarke who reportedly refused to do any more scenes in the buff past season three, wanting to be recognized for her ability to act and “not her breasts.” However, she later clarified that she would agree to scenes in the buff so long as they were important for the plot (so, not just for the sake of it). She has spoken more recently on the topic, saying that: "I feel like there's a little bit of inequality between the amount of nudity that happens with women—this woman in particular—and that happens with the other guys," and that “I think it should just be even.”
3 A Very Sultry Daenarys
In episode two of season one, Doreah is teaching the rather inexperienced Daenerys how to “satisfy” a man. In fact, it is Daenerys who originally asks Doreah how to accomplish this particular task (Khal Drogo was a lucky man). Her advice? She tells Daenerys to look him in the eyes. Doreah also says: “Out there he is the mighty Khal, but in the tent, he belongs to you.” Some have posited that this was an attempt for Daenerys to gain more power and control in her relationship. The scene is a very sultry one.
2 Her Rise To Power
This scene was in the very first episode of Game of Thrones. Without any context, sure, we can all agree that it is a very sexy picture of Daenerys Targaryen - she is naked, after all (it is also very symbolic of her vulnerability). This scene is very important when it comes to the character building of Daenerys. Here, her brother, Viserys, has just taken off her clothes and touched her breast while telling her that she has become a beautiful woman (she is about to be sold to the Dorthraki to be used in their army in order for Viserys to take back the throne). He says: " I would let his whole tribe f*** you - all forty thousand men - and their horses too if that's what it took." This is one of Daenerys' lowest points on the show, paving the way for her becoming a massive force of power over the next seasons.
This is one of Daenerys’ most recent powerful moments on the show. She escapes from the Dothraki leaders and sets them all on fire, all the while emerging unharmed because she is fire proof. Yes, this is Emilia Clarke’s first scene in the buff ever since she refused to do any more after season three. We have been waiting for it. Clarke chose not to use a body double for this scene, her reasoning being the fact that: “I wanted to come out and do an empowered scene, which wasn’t sexual. It was naked, but it was strong.” Again, she said: “But this is all me, all proud, all strong. That ain’t no body double!”
