Many of the stars in today's spotlight started out a child actors before blossoming into headline-making adults. Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen acted in Full House, Miley Cyrus started on the Disney Channel's Hannah Montana and Dakota Fanning starred in the movie Uptown Girls at age 9. As these performers grew up, they only became more talented and more well-known in Hollywood.
No one predicted which 90s and 00s child actors would rise to the top and which would flop, but today we're going to do just that with the kid stars of today. There are tons of child actors who, right now, are on the big screen and on TV. Not all of them will stay in the business their entire lives, however. The stress of Hollywood is too much for a lot of people to bear, plus, as children grow up, their interests and talents develop and change. For some, though, they'll only keep taking on bigger and better roles. We think that these particular eight kids are ones we need to watch out for.
7 Amandla Stenberg - Age 15
You might recognize this face as Rue from The Hunger Games, but Amandla Stenberg's first role was portraying the young Cataleya in the French-American film Colombiana. Stenberg portrayed the younger version of Zoe Saldana, which is quite an honor for a young actress. This year, Stenberg also voice-acted for the animated film Rio 2.
Having already worked with big names like Jennifer Lawrence and Zoe Saldana, Stenberg has the connections to go far in acting. Not to mention, her talent is incredible and she's cute-as-a-button. When she's not on set, Stenberg is involved with Share Our Strength, a charity that works to end hunger. She also has already developed a love for fashion. We're sure she will be able to keep her head on straight, and not get too distracted by the partying and glamour of Hollywood as she continues to grow up.
6 7) CJ Adams - Age 14
CJ Adams is a young actor best known for his starring role in The Odd Life of Timothy Green. In this 2012 movie, Adams played a child who grew out of the Greens' garden. The couple, played by Jennifer Garner and Joel Edgerton, try to raise the strange boy as their own. You can also see Adams on the big screen in Godzilla; Adams plays the young version of the main character, Lieutenant Fords Brody.
In just a few years, we can imagine Adams will be the object of every teenage girl's affections. We foresee him playing a high school student as he reaches his late teens and early twenties. Then, Adams will rise through Hollywood even further playing a romantic lead in rom-coms and dramas. We predict Adams could be the Zac Efron of his generation.
5 Isabella Acres - Age 13
Isabella Acres is already a beauty at just 13 years old, but that's only one reason we think she's destined for success. Acres has appeared in so many TV shows and movies, it's hard to keep track. She's most well known for playing Rose in the series Better Off Ted, but she's also appeared in the TV shows; Monk, The Mentalist, Desperate Housewives, Hannah Montana, as well the movies Four Christmases, A Nightmare on Elm Street, Little Fockers, Despicable Me 2, and Monsters University (and that's just naming a few.)
With that long of a resume at only 13, we can't wait to see what Acres will do in her future. Her pretty face and curly blonde hair would make her perfect to star in her own TV series about a Southern belle. Once she's a household name, Acres will definitely be offered starring movie roles left and right.
4 Aramis Knight - Age 14
At only 14, Aramis Knight is already casting a spell on us with his smoldering eyes, so we can only imagine the effect he'll have on audiences when he's all grown up. Like Isabella Acres, Knight already has a lot of acting experience under his belt. He had a big role, the part of Bean, in the 2013 film, Ender's Game. He also had smaller parts in The Dark Knight Rises and Valentine's Day. Even further, Knight had recurring roles in the television series General Hospital, The Whole Truth, Dexter and Boston Legal.
Knight hasn't had a starring role yet, but we think that that milestone is not too far off in his future. The California native has German, Indian and Pakistani ancestry, so he could fit the look for various types of characters. We predict that in just a few years, Knight will be cast as the young star of an action movie where he saves the city and sweeps beautiful girls off their feet.
3 3 & 4) Jason and Kristopher Simmons - Age 11
Hollywood loves a set of identical twins - Mary Kate and Ashley Olsen rose to fame together, and some confused people still wonder where Lindsay Lohan's twin went from The Parent Trap. So, we see a bright future for Jason and Kristopher Simmons if they stick together. The boys are most well known for portraying Wyatt Halliwell in the TV show Charmed from 2002 - 2006. They also modeled for Ralph Lauren in 2007 and did a baby food commercial in 2003.
We can see the Simmons boys starring in their own movie or TV show with a coming-of-age theme, together. They would struggle to find their own identities, begin dating and stay loyal to each other, while navigating through high school. It would be similar to The Suite Life of Zack and Cody, but maybe dramatic rather than comedic.
2 Joey King - Age 14
Joey King is best known for starring as Ramona along Selena Gomez, who played Beezus, in the movie Ramona and Beezus. Selena Gomez is also a former child actress turned superstar, so we imagine she was able to give King some great sisterly advice on set. King can currently be seen on the TV show Fargo, where she plays Greta Grimly who is Officer Gus Grimly's daughter.
Her starring role in Ramona and Beezus combined with the maturity of Fargo have convinced us that King is ready for anything. As she grows older, King could star in her own TV show or movie. She seems too unique for the run-of-the-mill high school student part, however. King would be perfect for a dystopian science fiction, a thriller, or another crime mystery like Fargo.
1 Quvenzhane Wallis - Age 10
The number one child star that we expect to be seeing a lot more of is Quvenzhane Wallis. In 2012, Wallis's role as Hushpuppy in Beasts of the Southern Wild earned her a nomination for the Academy Award for Best Actress, making her the youngest person to ever be nominated for this award. If that's not enough to convince you that we're going to be seeing a lot more of Wallis, she was also in 12 Years a Slave, which won three Academy Awards. You can expect to see a lot more of Wallis in the next year or so, as she has the title role in Annie, which is now in post-production, and is filming Fathers and Daughters this summer.
In her future, we expect Wallis to win the Academy Award she was previously nominated for. We think Wallis will be given many more starring roles and will have a successful Hollywood career for her entire life. At only 10 years old, we hope to be seeing a lot more of this young, talented actress.
