Of course Superman should defeat Batman if the two were to go blow-to-blow in a fight. Superman is an all-powerful alien from another planet who possesses powers that are, to put it one way, not had by mortal men. At the other end of the duel would be Batman, who is basically just a smart athletic guy who wears a suit. Superman versus Batman should be a mismatch equal to the 1985 Chicago Bears playing against the New England Patriots in the Super Bowl, the 1927 New York Yankees versus nearly every other baseball team at the time, and Donald Trump's hair versus a strong gust of wind.
Superman v Batman: Dawn of Justice, the Hollywood blockbuster that will be released in 2016, will attempt to tell a story about how Batman could, at the very least, hang with Superman were the two to come to blows. It is actually a story that is not at all foreign to the comic book world. Not only has Batman chosen to battle Superman in the past. The Caped Crusader has actually gotten the better of the Man in Steel in previous tales. Will that be the case on the big screen in 2016, or will the two eventually come together to fight a greater evil?
15 Solar Eclipse
Superman gets his superpowers because of the sun that heats the earth. Take away the sun, and one would theoretically make Superman as beatable as any human foe that Batman would take on in a fight. Is it somewhat ridiculous to suggest that Batman/Bruce Wayne would have the ability to cause an eclipse that is massive enough to harm Superman for that length of time? Maybe, but this is a story that includes an alien from another planet fighting a guy who wears bat wings. We are able to start things off with a bit of a stretch in this scenario.
14 Martha Kent
Casual observers of the character would probably list Kryptonite as Superman's biggest weakness. That is not actually the case. Clark Kent's feelings for humanity and particularly for those who are near and dear to his heart has resulted in Superman suffering defeats in numerous editions of stories. Would Batman actually do physical harm to Martha Kent, Clark's own mother? Probably not, but even the threat of violence could be enough for Batman to make life rough for Superman. Besides, Clark can't keep an eye on his mom 24 hours a day. Batman could get to Martha without requiring an intricate plan.
13 Kryptonite Sword
If Batman is going to notch a major victory over Superman, then Bruce Wayne is probably going to have to get his hands on some Kryptonite at some point. A Kryptonite ring, as an example, would do damage, but it might not be enough for Batman to down Superman for more than a few seconds. A Kryptonite sword, on the other hand, could do serious damage and even theoretically kill Superman if used in the right way and at the right time. Such a weapon has downed Superman in other stories, and it could work again so long as Batman conceals the weapon until it's time to strike.
12 Mind Control
Mind control is something that has been part of Superman stories for decades. Even the television series Smallville had Clark fall under the control of others and of spells on multiple occasions. Batman may not be carrying around potions when he is fighting bad guys, but we are confident that Bruce Wayne could probably cook something up while in the Bat Cave. He may need a certain type of Kryptonite or even the help of somebody else (more on that later), but Batman being able to defeat Superman without lifting a finger is not all that hard to imagine considering other Superman stories that have already been written.
11 Kryptonite Gas
This could be the ultimate weapon of mass destruction. Batman could unleash Kryptonite gas on Superman a variety of ways, and each of them should weaken and down the Man of Steel. Superman could be lured to a trap. Batman could also unleash the gas from his belt or even from one of the many vehicles that he uses to speed around Gotham. The added bonus here is that Superman would be beaten without anybody else being hurt; not that collateral damage has always been all that big of a deal to Batman over the years.
Of all of the ideas that could be presented, Bruce Wayne buying and/or manufacturing special Bat-Armor to defeat Superman may be the most boring if only because we may very well be seeing that happen in Superman v Batman: Dawn of Justice. Those of us who are doing whatever we can to avoid spoilers are, from seeing several trailers for the upcoming movie, led to believe that Batman goes back to the well and wears a suit that makes him a legitimate foe for Superman. This suit alone would not get the job done, but it would come in handy when Batman is fighting Superman.
We decided to try and think outside of the box here. It is clear that Darkseid, who is able to defeat Superman all on his own, is going to be a major part of Superman v Batman: Dawn of Justice. Perhaps, in another universe and in a different storyline, it could be Bruce Wayne and others who somehow either create Darkseid or create something just like the being who is Superman's foe. A duo of Batman and Darkseid would not just defeat Superman. That team would likely leave Superman dead when all was said and done. Mr. Wayne would have to be rather upset at Mr. Kent to go this route.
8 Kryptonite Suit
This goes along with the idea of the Bat-Armor. Batman would make light work of Superman by wearing a suit that either featured Kryptonite or that was made of the rock. The only real setback here is that Batman would have to find a way to keep what his suit was made out of a secret long enough to get close to Superman. Once Batman figured that out – and he would because Wayne is a genius – the beating could begin. Batman hugging Superman to death would probably be a little awkward to watch play out, but it would make for quite a memorable moment.
7 Lex Luthor
Just how desperate is Batman to defeat Superman? If Wayne has been downed by Superman and is lost for ideas, he could always make the trek on over to see new buddy Lex Luthor. Say whatever you will about Luthor and about his intentions. The guy deserves credit for his intelligence. A team of Luthor and Batman, as weird as it might be to imagine, would come up with a plan that could mean the doom of Superman. Superman would, if nothing else, probably be confused and at least a bit worried about seeing Luthor and Batman working together on a common goal.
6 Lois Lane
It is a story that has already played out in comics, and it is one that is brilliant. Batman could, as Bruce Wayne, begin a relationship with Lois Lane. After all, of course Lane would be intrigued by the idea of dating the eccentric billionaire who can give her just about anything that she wants. From there, Wayne could go a few different ways to defeat Superman. He could use Lane as bait similar to what was mentioned with Martha Kent. Wayne could also convince Lane that Superman is evil and a threat to society, and then use her to set a trap for Superman.
5 Kryptonite Cage
Granted, this is not the most original way for Batman to beat Superman. It has been done before, in part because it works for a storyline. Batman could lure Superman to, let's say, the Bat Cave or some other hidden place, and Batman could then release a cage that is either made or Kryptonite or that somehow radiates the element that leaves Superman weakened and defeated. Unlike dumb criminals from different stories, one would hope that Batman would be smart enough to not release the cage at any point; unless he decides that he and Superman are no longer foes, that is.
4 Learning Superman's Identity
It is teased in trailers for Superman v Batman: Dawn of Justice that Bruce Wayne knows exactly who Clark Kent is and vice-versa. Let's say that a situation arose where both men chose to use blackmail as a tactic. Kent has far more to lose than Wayne. Wayne is a billionaire who can use his resources to disappear from society and still manage to live a great life. Kent, however, would be exposed as an alien. It would be only a matter of time before some entity learned how to stop him and then conduct experiments on the being from a different planet.
3 Help From Friends
Maybe Batman runs into a brick wall when trying to come up with ways to defeat Superman once and for all. He could dial up some friends to see if they have any new ideas. In trailers for Superman v Batman: Dawn of Justice, it is made clear that Wonder Woman is going to have more than just an appearance. Perhaps, in a world where Batman comes up short against Superman again and again, Wayne could turn to Wonder Woman to lend a helping hand. She and other heroes could be convinced to help Batman if Superman is deemed to be more bad than good.
2 Popular Opinion
Astrophysicist Neil deGrasse Tyson once, per Cinema Blend, offered his take for how Batman would beat Superman. As Tyson sees things, the battle would be one that would play out in public and not in combat:
“If Batman is ever to defeat Superman, it is not in a cage, it is some other way. It is the court of public opinion, perhaps. Forces that are not how big are your muscles or how fast you can run or how high you can fly, but who do you want working for you. That's a different issue. That's a more subtle issue.”
Batman convincing the world that the alien Superman is a menace to society would not be all that difficult, especially after Superman has done some damage to property.
1 Kryptonite Bullets
The idea that Superman is “faster than a speeding bullet” is one that has been repeated for decades. Using bullets that are made out of Kryptonite to defeat Superman only makes sense. That is probably why it has been done in comics and also in television episodes. It might take some solid aim from Batman to hit such a fast target instead of an innocent victim. One Kryptonite bullet to the leg would be all that it would take to hurt Superman and also make him a mere mortal. From there, Batman could stand tall over Superman as the winner of the fight.
