There have been many famous celebrity couples in the news for years. The press has even given them cute mash-up names.
Today, I will be talking about Brangelina. This cute mash-up is the Hollywood power couple, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt. It has been over ten years since they went public with their relationship. They got together after she broke up Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston's marriage. Brangelina's relationship blossomed after they worked together on the movie, Mr. And Mrs. Smith, in 2004. It was a spy action comedy about two assassins that are assigned to kill each other.
Pitt was still settling his divorce from Aniston, but Jolie had already gotten through her divorce from Billy Bob Thornton. In 2005, Brangelina kept a professional distance at a promotional event for the movie. The announcement of Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston's separation came in January. She officially filed for divorce in March.
In January 2006, Jolie confirmed that she was pregnant with her first biological child with Brad Pitt. Her first child, Shiloh, was born in Namibia, Africa in July 2006. They did it to be in a place that their other children enjoyed. Since one of them is from Africa, Brangelina holds Africa as a special place in their hearts. Shiloh Jolie-Pitt made her press debut in People magazine in June 2006. The couple first walked the red carpet together at the premiere of Jolie's movie, The Good Shepherd. Their next child, Pax, was adopted from Vietnam in 2007. Jolie stayed home with him for a while after they got back, so the child could get used to his new environment.
15 'W' Magazine Spread
The couple posed in a spread for W Magazine in June 2005. These pictures of them as a couple were criticized because they came out in March 2005, right after Pitt's divorce was finalized. In July, Angelina adopted their child, Zahara, from Ethiopia that summer. Late in the year, Brad Pitt officially adopted Jolie's children, Maddox and Zahara. He changed their last name to Jolie-Pitt as well. Brad Pitt worked with photographer Steven Klein to create this portfolio of images with Brangelina playing house. The spread also included some pictures of Pitt dressed up as his Fight Club character, Tyler Durden.
14 A Book About Them Without Authorization
The author was Ian Halperin; he called the book Brangelina: The Untold Story of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. He also previously wrote about Michael Jackson's final years. He interviewed people close to Jolie and Pitt to get a "clear picture" of the couple's relationship. He touched on the issue of Pitt still being married to Aniston when he first got together with Angelina. The book also covers Aniston's supposed miscarriages. It is well known that Aniston drove away Pitt because she didn't want kids. This book said Aniston actually had two miscarriages in 2003 and 2004. Halperin also claimed that Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston had built a nursery in their home.
13 Brangelina's Passionate Fights
Supposedly, what drew Brad to Angelina was the amazing sex. When they first started dating, they would spend 18 to 20 hours in bed during the day. Now, they supposedly have re-channeled that passion into their epic fights. According to the book mentioned above, they had some knock down, drag out fights. In 2008, after much speculation, Pitt did finally confess that he fell in love with Angelina while he was still married to Aniston. Of course, Pitt has said that Mr. and Mrs. Smith is his favorite movie because that is where the couple met. Jolie talked about showing the movie to their children. She said "not too many children get to see a movie where their parents fell in love."
12 The Jolie-Pitt Foundation
Angelina founded the Jolie-Pitt foundation in 2004. They deal with humanitarian tasks all over the globe. The countries that have gotten the most funding are Cambodia, Namibia, and Ethiopia. Jolie was made a Cambodian citizen in 2004. She has made visits herself to the refugees in Chad and Darfur. The foundation works to help people that have been displaced from their home countries.
The actress joined up with SOS staff to provide psychological care for traumatized children. It helped children with social anxiety problems be able to have normal lives and play with other children. After returning home, she donated money to a family in Amman.
11 News of the World Lawsuit
In 2010, the couple sued News of the World for publishing false information saying that the couple had split up. The magazine said that they were splitting their money and had made arrangements for the custody of their six children. They had a supposed $300,000 in assets that were going to be split between the couple. The publication refused to retract the false story and apologize, so they were sued. They failed to tell their readers the truth about the Hollywood power couple. The case did not go to trial, so the couple settled for an undisclosed amount. They announced that the proceedings were officially over between the couple and News of the World.
10 Angelina Gave Brad a Custom Pendant
Angelina, then 35, designed a custom diamond pendant for Brad, then 47. She got it from the famous jeweler, Robert Procop. She is actually working with him to create her own line of jewelry, Styles By Jolie. She has previously worn some of his work at various red carpet premiers. She based the style of the pendant on Egyptian hieroglyphics. It has a secret message specially engraved on the diamond itself. Procop said about it, "I can't tell you what it says, you would need a microscope for that." Brad can be seen in various paparazzi pictures wearing said pendent.
9 First Pictures of Twins
The first pictures of the twins, Knox and Vivienne, were sold for $14 million. They went to People and Hello magazines. All of the proceeds went to the Jolie-Pitt Foundation to further the couple's humanitarian works around the world. This is becoming more commonplace for celebrities to sell pictures of their children to various magazines. These publications will pay in the millions of dollars for these first pictures of celebrity babies. The twins turned seven years old in July of 2015. Their mom took them on a big shopping spree. Pictures of them were taken in California outside of a book store.
8 Angelina Can Fly Private Planes
Angelina used to have a Private Pilot Certificate up until 2013, when she didn't renew the certificate in time. She has a $360,000 red and white Cessna that can't be flown again until she fixes her certificate. She has flown her entire family in this jet before. The plane can get up to 300 miles per hour. She would also like to join Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic to be one of the first civilians in space. She was inspired by her son, Maddox, to learn to fly. The boy loves Superman, so she thought she could get close to that if she learned how to fly for him.
7 Set Up Home in Surrey
This week, the Jolie-Pitt clan set up a home in Surrey for the next six months. They have moved into a 14,700 pound per month home with all of the children. It is a "White House style" eight-bedroom house. They treated the children to a toy shopping spree in Surrey. The couple was seen leaving a small toy store with their security guards. The guards had their hands full with several bags of goodies from the small local store. They are settling in well in the U.K while the children are trying to adjust to the change. The area is popular with London- commuters. The spacious house also has a gym and a pool on premises. They will be staying there as Pitt finishes filming the sequel to World War Z.
6 School For The Brood
Since the family is always travelling for Brad or Angelina's jobs, the children have a team of nannies and teachers that travel with them. The kids have total flexibility as to when they go to school and where they go to school. They never really have time to adjust to new schedules and new places. So, they need that flexibility to have school at four in the afternoon if that is needed. Angelina says it can be hard to find even a mere twenty minutes to close your eyes when you have been up since four o'clock in the morning.
5 Brangelina Hobbies
Angelina's favorite pastime (how they have free time, I don't know) is curling up with a good book and listening to music. Her favorite author is Ayn Rand, and her favorite singers include Madonna, Elvis Presley, Frank Sinatra, the Clash, and Matchbox 20. Brad loves fast cars and motorcycles, but he also has a collection of guitars. This collection includes some sought-after Taylor guitars. Taylor is a manufacturer of quality acoustic guitars. They started the company in 1974 and have their headquarters in El Cajon, California. We are surprised that these two ever have free time between their movie projects and raising six children.
4 Fast Food Junkies
Just because they have a lot of money doesn't mean they eat in fancy restaurants all the time. For Christmas 2007, the entire family went through the McDonald's drive through for their holiday meal. On Boxing Day (the day after Christmas), the family had their meal at a local KFC. Speaking of Christmas, the family tries not to buy big, expensive toys for the children. They are not allowed to watch American cartoons because they show commercials of big fancy toys. The Jolie-Pitts have a rule that the kids must make a gift for someone else. They try to keep the holiday costs down.
3 Children's Security Blankets
The Brangelina children may not get expensive gifts, but they do have their security blankets that they carry around. Zahara (Zi-Zi) has a blanket that was once pink, but it is now a very ugly brownish shade. Shiloh has blankets called "Silkies." They are regular blankets with silk on them. Neither children leave home without them. The boys in the brood prefer military and soldier type toys. Maddox likes little army men and military planes while Pax carries around a piece of rope. In addition to toys and security blankets, Maddox and Pax have had their own goldfish and gerbils before.
2 New Orleans Home and Stone Grotto
The couple recently bought a huge French Quarter mansion in New Orleans. The city is famously portrayed in the movie Interview with the Vampire that starred Brad Pitt as the main character, Louis. The house is 150 years old. It is rumoured that Angelina stops in occasionally at neighborhood bars, especially right after Hurricane Katrina.
The couple has a stone grotto on their property that they like to go to "get it on." Jolie has said that they have "more comfortable places," but they enjoy the water in the grotto in their Hollywood property. Supposedly, Jimi Hendrix used to hang out there.
1 French Home
France holds a special place in Brangelina's hearts. Jolie's mother and grandmother were from France. They bought a 35 million pound château right before the twins were born. The property has a lake, a vineyard, swimming pool, forest, and 16th Century chapel all on premises. It is rumoured that they were going to get married there after the first bought the property. Brad calls her "insane" because of her ability to balance acting, writing, directing, mothering, and her numerous humanitarian works. He says it's because she wants to be of value to the world. She realizes that time is fleeting and she wants to do everything she can while she has this life.
