It seems as though with great fame and fortune often comes strange behavior. Very public meltdowns, divorces, legal and money troubles have made headlines throughout the years, with each celebrity story topping the next in tabloid drama.
Pop singer Britney Spears shocked the world when she shaved her head, lost custody of her two children and most recently, Nickelodeon star Amanda Bynes' DUI arrest, graphic twitter posts, accusing police of sexual harassment and calling out stars on being ugly.
But whether for show, for movie or magazine sales, these are stories of actual people going through very personal troubles in a very public forum. Already this year, there have been a slew of strange stories, from celebrities acting out to being caught in high profile scandals. And keep in mind, it's only June. There are certainly many more to come.
15 15. Bobbie Kristina Marries her "Brother" Nicholas Gordan
In early January it was announced that the late Whitney Houston's daughter, Bobbi Kristina Brown, and her 'brother', Nicholas Gordan, were married. Houston passed away in February of 2012 the night before the 54th Grammy Awards, and always referred to Gordan as her "son." Bobbie Kristina wrote in a Facebook post, that she was "tired of hearing people say, 'eww you're engaged to your brother' or "If Whitney was still alive, would we be together or would she approve of this? Let me clear up something, we aren't even real brother and sister, nor is he my adoptive brother. My mom never adopted him. In fact, mommy was the one who even said that she knew that we were going to start dating."
14 14. Selena Gomez Unfollows Everyone on Instagram
Justin Bieber's on-again-off-again girlfriend has made headlines this year for her rocky romance with the singer, her falling out with bestie Taylor Swift, a stint in rehab and firing her mom and stepdad as her managers. But the strangest headline was born when she unfollowed all of her Instagram friends and posted cryptic messages, including a picture of a review of Mary J. Blige's 2007 album Growing Pains, with lyrics from the song "Work in Progress." Could this out-of-character behavior just be the Disney star growing up? Or are these strange antics the beginning of something more serious?
13 Lindsay Lohan's Famous Lovers List Revealed
A list of 36 famous men that the star has slept with surfaced in March. The names included Lohan's ex-boyfriend Wilmer Valderama as well as many A-listers like Justin Timberlake, Adam Levine, Ryan Phillippe, Ashton Kutcher and Zac Efron. In April, Lohan owned up to the list, saying that it was indeed hers and that it was the fifth step in her Alcoholics Anonymous treatment program at the Betty Ford Clinic.
She claims that someone must have taken a picture of it when she was moved for her reality show on the Oprah Network, calling it "unfortunate" and a "really personal thing." On the final episode of her show, she said that she “care[s] about the people who were involved and other people, because it was really disrespectful...That's something I trusted with people in my life.” She said that the person she believes leaked the list is no longer in her life.
12 Bachelor Juan Pablo Won't Say "I Love You"
For Bachelor fans, Season 18's finale was one of the most uncomfortable nights of their year. Juan Pablo, who was originally eliminated from Desiree Hartsock's Bachelorette Season, went from being one of the most mysterious and handsome foreigners to light up weeknight television to one of the most hated bachelors in history of the show, with viewers calling him bland, creepy and insensitive. Down to his two last picks, he let runner up, Clare Crawley express her love before letting her go. Girls everywhere fist pumped when she replied to her rejection with "I would never want my children having a father like you" before storming off. Nikki Ferrell, a pediatric nurse, arrived next, and, after it was clear she was the winner, waited for her ring. Instead, Juan Pablo handed her the final rose, since he wasn't ready to ask her to marry him, or say "I love you." Although clearly disappointed, she accepted. The real awkwardness happened at the "After the final Rose" screening, where, being prodded by an aggravated and confused host Chris Harrison, Juan Pablo again refused to tell Nikki that he loves her. After the show ended, Harrison blogged: "Most of you understood last night it wasn't about getting Juan Pablo to say he loved Nikki. It was about getting him to really say anything of substance about a woman who had professed her love for him and had hoped for a proposal from him."
11 Aaron Carter Still Wants Hilary Duff A Decade Later
When Hilary Duff announced a separation from her husband, hockey player Mike Comrie, in January, singer Aaron Carter, younger brother of Backstreet Boys heartthrob Nick Carter, came out of the wood work to announce that he still loves Duff. The two dated over a decade ago for three years, until Carter allegedly cheated on her with Lindsay Lohan and her best friend. Carter took to his Twitter account to say: "Don't be that stupid douche that loses the love of your life forever.. Like me..." and "I'll spend the rest of my life trying to better myself to get back to her. I don't care what ANY of you think." In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, he said he still loves Duff, although he is not "in love" with her, since he doesn't know her today, but that he's "not going to give up on Hilary. Never." Duff has not responded to Carter's pleas, and her and estranged husband Comrie have recently been seen together in public, with Duff stating that they still love each other very much.
10 Woman Spends $25,000 on Plastic Surgery to Look like Jennifer Lawrence
Many men and women have used celebrity features for inspiration at the surgeon's office. Some take their obsession with the famous faces to the next level. Last year a 33-year-old man from Los Angeles spent over $100,000 to look like his idol, Justin Bieber. In March, a story surfaced of a Texas woman who spent $25,000 out of her "me fund" to look like Jennifer Lawrence. The woman claims that people already recognized the similarity between the Hunger Games star and herself, so she decided to undergo the full transformation, citing that it wasn't just her desire to look like her idol, but that she was uncomfortable with her body after having her daughter.
9 Courtney Love Finds the Missing Malaysian Plane
Good samaritan Courtney Love joined thousands of people in the search for the missing Malaysian plane in March. Using the crowd sourcing satellite imagery software Tomnod, Love searched the aerial imagery, finding what she thought to be an oil slick and a plane. The singer posted a picture and the coordinates of the imagery on Twitter, pointing out an oil slick and the possible wreckage. Although her discovery was never verified, you have to commend the singer for lending a hand.
8 Lady Gaga Performs in Art Vomit
Lady Gaga's latest album, ArtPop, hasn't recieved the critical success she found in her 'The Fame' days, but that's not stopping her from treating her fans to more bizarre and often uncomfortable performances. CNN said her "outrageous behavior...has soured from entertaining to off-putting." In March, Gaga invited artist Millie Brown to accompany her onstage with a vomiting act where the performance artist vomited green and black paint all over the singer. The act received serious backlash including "glamorizing eating disorders." Brown said that was not the intention of her performance, but to showcase beauty, from the inside out.
7 7. Ben Affleck Gets Kicked out Casino for Counting Cards
Maybe he was just getting into character for a movie? In early May a story came out that actor Ben Affleck was playing Black Jack at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas, when security swarmed the table, subsequently banning him for life for counting cards. According to TMZ, Affleck is no stranger to the black jack table, earning $800,000 at the Hard Rock in 2001.
6 Fox's New Reality Show Hoax, "I Wanna Marry Harry"
It's hard to believe that the Royal Family would pawn off the fourth in line to the throne on an American, nonetheless, version of the Bachelor. Unfortunately, some women were tricked, royally, into believing they were vying for the handsome prince's heart. Fox's new reality show, I wanna Marry Harry, premiers May 27th, 2014, featuring a newly cultured Matthew Hicks, a Prince Harry look-a-like who courts twelve women with bachelor-style eliminations. The hardest part, Hicks has said, was not learning the royal sports like fencing, clay pigeon shooting and ballroom dancing, but memorizing every detail of the real Prince Harry's life and trying not to reveal his true identity, which is revealed to the "winner" in the show's last episode.
5 Bieber's Plane Gets a Little Too High
In February, Justin Bieber and an entourage, including his father, Jeremy Bieber, were flying on a chartered jet from Canada to New Jersey when the pilots politely asked them to stop smoking pot on board the plane. The pilots, who wanted to remain anonymous, said that Bieber and his crew were verbally abusive to the flight crew and refused to stop smoking. It got so bad that the pilots were forced to wear oxygen masks because they were worried they would test positive for the substance. Federal agents from Customs and Border Protection, the Drug Enforcement Administration and Customs Enforcement said they detected the odor but failed to find drugs.
4 Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin are "Consciously Uncoupling"
Actress Gwyneth Paltrow and Coldplay frontman Chris Martin announced the end of their ten year marriage in May when Gwyneth wrote a blog post on her lifestyle website Goop called "Concious Uncoupling." Like many of Gwyneth's interesting takes on life - from her comments on working moms, diets and workout routines, the internet was buzzing with questions of what that actually means. "Conscious Uncoupling," a euphemism for divorce, is a term used by a Los Angeles based psychotherapist for a course taught online to "release the trauma of a breakup." It basically means lessening the damage for the couple and family going through a divorce. Following their uncoupling announcement, the couple took a "break up moon" in the Bahamas.
3 Shia LeBouf Arrives at Premier with Bag on His Head
In February, Shia LeBouf, famous for Transformers, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull, walked the red carpet for the premier of his movie Nymphomaniacs in a tux, and a paper bag on his head, reading "I am not famous anymore." The same five words that he had been tweeting for weeks. His bizarre behavior wasn't anything new. Earlier that day he walked out of a press conference after saying "When the seagulls follow the trawler, it's because they think sardines will be thrown in the sea. Thank you very much." This quote comes from French soccer player Eric Cantona. He then said he was retiring from public life.
2 The V. Stiviano and the Donald Sterling Saga
This story is still full of unanswered questions and drama, gripping headlines for weeks following the exposed racial comments of the Los Angeles Clippers co-owner, Donald Sterling. According to the tapes, they depict Sterling's embarrassment of V. Stiviano's association with the African American players on the team. Sterling has denied being a racist, but the damage seems to have been done, with Sterling now in a fight to stay co-owner after the league said they would ban him forever and imposing a $2.5 million dollar fine. As far as Stiviano, the world is still trying to wrap their head around who she actually is. She has denied romantic involvement with Sterling, calling herself his right-hand-man and confident, and admitting that they do have a financial arrangement but it's platonic. Yet Sterling's estranged wife, Shelly, sued Stiviano in March for having an alleged affair with her husband and for being a gold digger.
1 Lindsay Lohan Has a Miscarriage During Filming Reality Show
Oprah Winfrey adopted Lindsay Lohan for a new miniseries about her tumultuous career, and the drama in her life translated nicely into drama with production crews. Notoriously difficult to work with, one episode shows her leaving the film crew outside of her apartment building, refusing to let them come up to shoot the documentary. Then she came out with a shocking confession at the end of the mini-series. She was having a miscarriage during the filming. She has kept mum on who the father is, saying that it's a "long story."
