Video games are fun. Period. Since their entrance into average American homes, they've been a source for entertainment and good times. Unfortunately, there have been many stereotypes that go along with playing video games as well as a negative connotation. Typically, it's looked at as a bad thing and is a telltale sign that you are in college but still live with your mom and dad. Because of this, many individuals will not admit to being gamers for the sake of keeping their reputations alive.
Fortunately for those of us gamers in the world, we are nowhere near alone. Even in Hollywood, there are plenty of people who understand us just fine. Some of the most popular and charismatic actors and comedians on the planet identify with us way more than people realize. Yes, they play video games too and they wear it proudly like a badge of honor.
We have this way of thinking in our heads that makes celebrities a whole different breed of people. But that is nowhere near the case. They walk, talk, eat, sleep, and even play games just like we do. Just because they're out there making movies doesn't mean that they don't have time for a little Halo or Mario Kart. Many of them are actually so into these games that they've gone to great lengths to show their support.
Here are 11 of the hottest celebrities you didn't know were hardcore gamers.
11 Taylor Lautner - Rock Band
Taylor Lautner, the star of the forever hated Twilight Saga, is into video games? He just gained some respect points in my book! Unlike many of us, he's not addicted to the point where it's becoming unhealthy. He actually balances his time pretty well. His favorite game is Rock Band, and reportedly he can kick anybody's butt on it. Perhaps this is the start of him forming some kind of band in the future? That being said, I wouldn't get too excited, I don't think he's going on tour anytime soon. If you want to join the band, I would ask quickly before his Xbox Live membership runs out.
10 Mila Kunis - World of Warcraft
Everybody loves Mila Kunis. That is, every straight guy at least. Her work is spread across multiple films including Black Swan and Jupiter Ascending. She's a well respected actress no doubt. On top of dabbling in different films, Kunis has also admitted to dabbling in World of Warcraft. Dabbling doesn't even cover it. She spent so many hours in that game that she eventually had to cut it altogether because she felt that it was taking over her life. Now that's some serious discipline. I guess this means she won't be at the premiere of the new Warcraft movie.
9 Zac Efron - Halo
Oh, how far you've come from your singing days as Troy Bolton for East High. Zac Efron has since starred in a number of films along the lines of Neighbors. Love him or hate him, you have to give him credit for still acting after his Disney Channel days. This guy also loves video games. And I mean loves. He hosted the midnight release of Halo 3. That's not all either. His love of video games is allegedly what caused him and Vanessa Hudgens to break up. She forced him to choose, and... well let's just say he's still able to get that Killtacular on Halo 5 now.
8 Daniel Craig - James Bond And Guitar Hero
How fitting is it that the most recent actor for James Bond would also be into playing games about James Bond as well as Halo and Guitar Hero. Actually, it was his interest in the James Bond video games that sparked his desire to become the character in the movies, and much of his performance was derived from those titles. Can we get more people like this when Hollywood decides to make a video game-based movie? The movie might still suck but at least we would get some decent performances that would make it worth seeing at least once.
7 Megan Fox - Halo Reach
I'll be honest, I'm not a big fan of Megan Fox. She was in the Transformers solely to be eye candy and a love interest. Then she got put in Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to do exactly the same thing. Just not my cup of tea. For me, though, she definitely gains some respect because of her interest in video games. She didn't really admit to playing any games at first, but now, she has revealed that she's really into Halo Reach and has been, by multiple accounts, criticized online for "being a girl". Stuff like that boils my blood, but at least it hasn't stopped Megan.
6 Vin Diesel - Created A Gaming Studio
Vin Diesel is a special kind of person that the world seems to love. Not only does he have fantastic work under his belt such as Guardians of the Galaxy and The Fast and The Furious franchise, but he also has a passion for video games. When he played, there was apparently a lack of quality offerings that he could choose from. Because of this, he founded Tignon Studios himself just so that he could play a good game. He also can't pick a side between the console vs PC debate. He has admitted to playing both of them.
5 Justin Bieber - Call Of Duty
Again, another celebrity that I simply don't care for. That being said, this isn't a list about celebrities that I love the most, so I guess he can stay. The famous (or infamous) singer Justin Bieber is really into games that many young minds would be. He is naturally into shooters like Call of Duty and Halo (I really don't understand the love for those titles), as well as spending a lot of his time in Mario Kart. I may not like his singing, but at least his interests are something I could get behind.
4 Jessica Alba - Zelda
I will never see Jessica Alba as anything other than that campy Invisible Woman in Fantastic Four, and perhaps that's unfair to her, but it's simply the impression of her that sits in my brain. On top of acting, she's also got a great love for video games. While she may not be a big shooter fan, she's got a deep love for Nintendo. She grew up playing classic Mario and Zelda titles with skill and precision. She has since then upgraded her consoles each generation. At the end of shooting for Fantastic Four, she even got each of her co-stars their very own Nintendo DS. You go, Jessica!
3 Michael Fassbender - Assassin's Creed
It's as if Hollywood heard everything I just said about getting somebody who loves video games to star in a video game movie. Michael Fassbender, best known for his performance as Magneto, is an avid gamer. He's really into the Assassin's Creed franchise, which motivated him to develop and star in the upcoming Assassin's Creed movie. If there were any movie based on a video game that has even a sliver of a chance, it would no doubt be this one. That's right, guys, get hyped; we might have a winner!
2 Matthew Perry - Fallout
Unlike Mila Kunis, Matthew Perry spends a lot of time on video games and has no intention of stopping. This guy is in love with Fallout. Yes, he loves it more than you do. This guy played Fallout 3 so much that he developed carpal tunnel syndrome as a result. Just stop and commend this man for his dedication. I have no doubt in my mind that when Fallout 4 was announced, he fell out of his chair. I'm a bit surprised, though, that he didn't go the Efron route and host the midnight release. Oh well, I guess he could wait for Fallout 5.
1 Henry Cavill - World of Warcraft And Skyrim
Now we're ending this list on a high note. It makes my inner nerd giggle with delight that the actor that plays Superman also loves video games. He was really into World of Warcraft, so much so that it nearly cost him the role of Superman! Zak Snyder called to offer him the part, but Cavill was in the middle of WoW and ignored the call to keep playing. Cavill also has a deep love for Skyrim and is rumored to be starring in a future Superman game, voicing the Man of Steel once again.
