10 Up And Coming Stars We're Already Sick Of

It takes a lot to make it big in Hollywood. Despite what the public sees, behind the scenes most celebrities have spent years and a ton of energy trying to “make it.” A lot of people set out to make it in the music or the film industry, but only a tiny percentage ever actually make it. The old saying of “it’s who you know” is definitely true, but being in the right place at the right time has a lot to do with it, too. So, landing on those highly coveted “up and coming” lists can be a huge deal for those who were virtually unknown yesterday in being in high demand tomorrow.

Being thrust to stardom overnight is a dream for most struggling celebrities. But it doesn’t come without consequence. Going from living a normal life to being in the public eye and followed by the media and paparazzi, having every word dissected, takes a lot of getting used to. When it comes out of nowhere, the chances for slip ups can be much higher for most people. Overnight celebrity also comes with double-edged sword of oversaturation. Celebrities work their entire careers to get their faces and voices out there. But sometimes they’re out there so much and so often, they become their own downfall, with people becoming quickly sick of them. Here is a list of the 10 up and coming celebrities that we’re already sick of hearing about, proving that being a celebrity can be just as much a blessing as it is a curse.

10 Lorde

When Lorde first hit the pop charts with her debut single Royals, she skyrocketed to fame. Touted as the new face of music at just 16 years old, she was praised and saw instant popularity. She even won a Grammy. But, it didn’t take very long for people to start getting sick of being told to wave their hands up in the air, so there. For starters, her songs, although well written and original, bear a ton of similarities and begin to blend together. And as she became increasingly over-saturated on the radio, there was no escaping her. Then she began using her popularity as a platform to voice her opinions on being a feminist and beauty standards in society. The singer-songwriter said, “Taylor Swift is so flawless, and so unattainable, and I don’t’ think it’s breeding anything good in young girls. ‘I’m never going to be like Taylor Swift, why can’t I be as pretty as Lorde?’ That’s f---king bulls---t.”

Selena Gomez called Lorde out on her own hypocrisy of her feminist claims, though. The Disney turned pop star said, “I’m a feminist and the theme of [Lorde’s] song is, ‘When you’re ready come and get it from me,’” Lorde said of the hit earlier this year. “I’m sick of women being portrayed this way.”

9 Dakota Johnson

Before 2014, most people never heard the name Dakota Johnson. But that was before she was cast as the female lead in the 50 Shades Of Grey film adaptation. After the announcement of her new erotic persona, her name – and face – were suddenly everywhere. As a surprising choice for the role, what might have been even more surprising is that she is the daughter of actress Melanie Griffith. Although it is refreshing that Johnston does not meet the unrealistic beauty expectations, the topic has also been exhausted over and over again in the media, making it feel more like 50 Shades of 'We Get It Already'.

8 Arianna Grande

When Ariana Grande first hit the music charts, she was touted as the next Mariah Carey. With an impressive four-octave vocal range and a whistle register, it’s no surprise that the actress turned pop star received critical acclaim. But, rumors of tension between her and her BFF and Sam And Cat co-star Jennette McCurdy, began to surface with claims that Grande wasn't quite living up to the “best” part of “best friends forever.” And then the stories of rampant diva behavior began pouring in. She was even rumored to have made fun of her own fans while in an elevator after a meet and greet. Coupled with her transformation from normal teenage girl into a posing starlet with clothes as tight as her hair extensions are long, Grande quickly climbed the charts of most annoying new star.

7 Shailene Woodley

With her performances in recent hit films like The Fault In Our Stars and Divergent, Shailene Woodley has proven that she has a very promising career in Hollywood ahead of her. Unfortunately, she hasn't been able to keep her opinions on things outside of her burgeoning expertise to herself and some of what she has had to say has rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. Taking on a number of controversial topics, Woodley has painted a target on herself for heated internet chatter. She told one interviewer that she doesn't consider herself a feminist because “feminist is a word that discriminates” and she’s “not into that.” She also told a writer from Marie Claire that she doesn't think she believes in monogamy. “I don’t even know if humans are genetically made to be with one person forever,” the actress said. A lot of Woodley’s opinions can be chalked up to the fact that she’s 23 years old and new to Hollywood. But she has left many wishing she would stick to what she does best on the big screen.

6 Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer Lawrence has been around longer than anyone on this list, so she’s not exactly a new face. But, she climbed Hollywood’s hot list at record pace in 2013 into 2014, due to the huge successes of the Hunger Games franchise and hits like American Hustle and Silver Linings Playbook. At first, America fell in love with the actress who didn't act like other actresses and felt free to talk about how she eats pizza and Doritos and refuses to diet because dieting is for waifs who have no personality. She compared herself to Val Kilmer, inferring that she’s heavy. She tells funny stories and she always comes across unaffected. And then somehow the stories seem to be exactly the same and then maybe even a little forced. After the 27th time of hearing about her love for Cool Ranch Doritos, it’s not as refreshing anymore. And then there was the time that she told Seth Meyers the story where she was so wasted at an after-party, that she was throwing up over the side of a porch when Miley Cyrus told her to “get it together.” Then Miley Cyrus came out the next day and said, “Umm, that never happened” which began to make Lawrence’s stories feel more like a schtick than her actual personality.

5 Meghan Trainor

Meghan Trainor went from another no-name trying to break into the industry, to number one on the pop charts in what seemed like overnight fashion. Thanks to her catchy hit “All About That Bass,” Trainor not only made a name for herself as a fun singer with a unique, reggae-influenced voice, but also as a spokesperson for women with thicker figures. The song was touted as the anthem to counter the unrealistic beauty and weight standards set on women. However, many people quickly took issue with the song, saying that it acts hypocritically by unfairly mocking  “skinny” women. She also raised a few eyebrows when she said “I don’t consider myself to be a feminist.” Along with her singles being on constant rotation on the radio and basically everywhere you go, it’s easy to understand why some people are hopping off the Meghan Trainor-train.

4 Willow Smith

Daughter of Will and Jada Smith, Willow Smith had a hit single a couple of years back. You might remember it, unfortunately. “I Whip My Hair Back And Forth” was a surprising hit when it was released. But along with being a hit of 2010, it was also one of the most hated songs of the year. People were either on or off the Willow Smith bandwagon. Though she was touted as the next big thing by Jay-Z, who signed her to his record label, Smith seemed to fall off the face of the Earth for a while after that, taking a low profile. But she has resurfaced again in recent months. Most notably at the side of her brother Jaden Smith, making extremely bizarre, entitled and sometimes even crazy comments. Perhaps that’s what happens when you’re the child of two of the biggest names in the industry and you’re home schooled in Scientology.

3 Jaden Smith

As if Willow Smith wasn't annoying enough on her own; her brother, Jaden Smith tops the annoying Smith family member pyramid by a long shot. He’s been called the next Will Smith for his roles in The Karate Kid and After Earth, but he’s more famous for saying stuff that the rest of us peons are obviously too unevolved to understand. In one interview, Smith said "It’s proven that how time moves for you depends on where you are in the universe. It’s relative to beings and other places. But on the level of being here on earth, if you are aware in a moment, one second can last a year. And if you are unaware, your whole childhood, your whole life can pass by in six seconds.” He’s also told the New York Times that “kids never learn anything in school.” Which must be why almost no one understands him.

2 Iggy Azalea

Iggy Azalea became a pretty well-known name after her song Fancy launched her musical career in 2014. Although her album has been selling well, not everyone has been a fan. And the more time that goes by, the more people seem to be jumping over to the hater side. But it’s not just because people are sick of hearing her music like other artists on this list. Most musicians couldn’t control being oversaturated even if they wanted to. However, you can control what you put on your Twitter account. Well, most of us can, anyway. Azalea, however, seems to have trouble with that one. The singer has been accused of posting some gratuitously obnoxious and racist Tweets. Posts like “just saw 5 black men get arrested out the front of popeyes. #damn #stereotypes” were deleted from Azalea’s account, but not before being re-Tweeted hundreds of times by other Twitter users. Azalea said that people who were pointing out the messages that she posted on her own account were being unfair because the Tweets were old and were originally just intended for her friends and family.

1 Kylie Jenner

The Kardashian family has been oversaturated for a few years now. But younger sister Kylie Jenner has just begun making a name for herself outside of the shadow of her big sisters. But that name hasn’t come without a hefty load of criticism. Coming from a long line of narcissism, it’s definitely no surprise that Jenner loves taking pictures of herself for her Instagram and Twitter accounts. But that doesn’t make it any less annoying to her critics. Even more annoying is that she has been accused of putting a large dose of Photoshop on those pictures, completely altering the way that she looks. And despite the fact that her face is considerably and very visibly different than it used to be, including lips that are at least three times their original size, Jenner denies making any changes to her appearance. She took to her Twitter to let everyone know how annoyed she was by the talk of her appearance stating, “How long are we gonna talk about this lip thing lmao,” she Tweeted. “Let’s get our lives together guys and talk about some important s**t. Just talk about something new at least. I’m bored.” But with how many pictures she takes of her lips front and center, it seems as though she’s not the least bit bored by it, making everyone wish she would go back to being the sister no one talked about.
