As perfect as your favourite celebrities may appear to be, when the going gets tough even Hollywood's royalty needs a shoulder to cry on. And no one (not even the most difficult of A-listers), can say that they've made it through the rough times (or the scandals) without the support of a bestie We all know about Tinseltown's lifelong friends: Tina and Amy, Ben and Matt, Jennifer & Courtney, but there are some celebrity duos that have us scratching our heads.
Here is a roundup of unlikely celebrity friends.
10 Jennifer Lawrence & Adele
Maybe it was their mutual love of gold that connected them (they were both first time Oscar winners back in 2013), or the fact that they're both stinking rich, but whatever bonded British chanteuse, Adele and Hollywood's favourite goofball, Jennifer Lawrence it's still going strong. According to British paper The Sun, the pair are so inseparable that when it was announced that filming for the latest X-Men movie was to take place in the UK ( the film was later shot in Montreal) J. Law began looking at homes to rent in Adele's hood, Notting Hill just to be closer to her. Awww! Apparently what keeps this friendship fire burning is their mutual love of maintaining a 'normal' life amidst all the glitz and glamour of Hollywood.
9 Kendall and Kylie Jenner & Selena Gomez
Turns out the youngest in the Kardashian-Jenner clan - Kendall, 18 and 16-year-old Kylie, are bosom buddies with none other than 21-year-old pop star Selena Gomez. The threesome were recently snapped partying together at a West Hollywood club to celebrate the 'sweet 16' of another famous celebrity offspring - Sean 'Diddy' Combs' son, Christian 'King' Combs. The fashionable threesome have been tight every since Kendall and Kylie attended Selena's record release party back in 2009. But don't worry about missing any of those precious girlfriend moments - the trio are notorious for documenting all the fun on Instagram.
8 Elijah Wood & Anna Paquin
They say that those who play together, stay together and that definitely seems to be the case for close pals Elijah Wood and Anna Paquin. The pair starred in two films together - 2010s The Romantics and the upcoming thriller, Black Wings Has My Angel. They hit it off so famously that Anna asked Elijah to DJ her wedding to True Blood costar Stephen Moyer four years ago. It's really a no-brainer why there's so much love between them - both were gifted child stars - Anna's debut performance in Jane Campion's The Piano earned her the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress when she was 11-years-old, while Wood's pivotal role was playing Aidan Quinn's son in 1990s Avalon. Something else they have in common? Kiwi love! Canadian-born Anna moved to her mother's native New Zealand when she four while Elijah spent a large amount of time there, playing Frodo Baggins in the epic The Lord of the Rings trilogy.
7 Claire Danes & Lena Dunham
Maybe we're wrong but Claire Danes and Lena Dunham seem to be polar opposites. Claire doesn't seem too far removed from the types of characters she plays on the screen (minus the bipolar protagonist she plays on Homelands, of course) smart, sophisticated and complex - think Calvin Klein, champagne and a strand of pearls. Lena, too seems very similar to the goofy (but loveable) Hannnah Horvath she plays on HBO's Girls - think Betsey Johnson, a Guinness and a ring from a gum ball machine. Apparently the gals grew up in the same New York City neighbourhood but didn't cross paths until years later when they were introduced by a mutual friend. "I'm in constant awe of what she does," Danes told Ryan Seacrest in 2013. "She's my favourite actress," Dunham quipped back. Makes you feel all squishy inside, doesn't it?
6 Chris Hemsworth & Matt Damon
Move over, Ben Affleck there's a new man in town! Chris Hemsworth and Matt Damon are inseparable. They've been spotted vacationing together, attending each others weddings and baby showers and were even snapped by the paparazzi getting some retail therapy on. Apparently the reason these two get along so well is because they're both so dull. "Matt Damon once said to me, 'Just stay boring. Don't go spilling out of a club at four in the morning and you'll be fine.'
The paparazzi got bored with us because we are pretty boring," the Aussie told The Telegraph in a 2013 interview. The hunky blondes appear to be true Hollywood 'good guys' - both are doting dads (Matt has four children with wife Luciana) while Chris is the father of three little ones with wife and fellow actress Elsa Pataky.
5 David Beckham & Snoop Dogg
This is definitely one that's hard to believe but oh so true: Becks is head over heels for Snoop! It wasn't just Tom and Katie who befriended the soccer player and his 'Posh' wife when they made the move from England to L.A. Snoop explains, "Me and him we came together on one night and we just became friends and we've just been friends ever since." Well said. The Doggfather trusts David so much that he's the first person who gets to hear his new music - even before his record label. The two became fast friends in 2008 after David appeared on the rapper's reality show, Snoop Dogg's Fatherhood. Turns out they've got a lot in common, "I love soccer just as he loves hip hop," he told the Mirror UK. "He's like a brother."
4 John Stamos & Howard Stern
"So long as he's willing to share the details of his sex life, John will always be welcome on the Howard Stern Show," it hilariously states on the shock jock's website. Whatever the lurid details may be, the ageless and handsome John Stamos (or Uncle Jesse as he's still known in most circles) and Howard Stern have been friends for a really long time. He first appeared on the self proclaimed King of All Media's show back in 1991, and the two have been tight ever since - Stern even named his beloved pit bull Bianca Romign-Stamos in homage to his best bud after the Stern family became close with John and former wife Rebecca Romign in the early nineties.
3 Kerry Washington & Jane Fonda
"Yesterday I went to a friend's baby shower. I hadn't seen her since she was pregnant and when I saw her belly and her radiant face I began to cry." That's what movie star extraordinaire, Jane Fonda wrote on her blog after attending her friend Kerry Washington's baby shower back in February. If you want to know just how tight they are, Fonda was amongst the forty lucky ladies invited to the Scandal star's baby celebration. Though there's nearly four decades between them, that hasn't stopped the fellow actresses from sharing the same passions: they are both actively involved in the V-Day organization's 1 Billion Rising movement to end violence against women and girls.
2 Courteney Cox & Ed Sheeran
No one could have predicted that when Friends beauty Courteney Cox and British singer Ed Sheeran were introduced in 2013 by a mutual acquaintance, they'd soon be shacking up in her Malibu beach house - but that's exactly what happened. While writing material for his new album, Sheeran stayed with Cox for three months. "There was no rent but I made the bed and cups of tea and things like that. If you're staying at your friend's house, you should treat it like your own," he said in an interview with The Sun newspaper. But before you get any ideas, this friendship is purely platonic. Ed recently set Courteney up with a close pal - Snow Patrol piano player and guitarist, Johnny McDaid.
1 Zach Braff & Harry Styles
"For those of you asking, @Harry_Styles is dynamite spooner." So tweeted former Scrubs star, Zach Braff about his bromance with One Direction singer Harry Styles. Their relationship blossomed after Zach realized Harry was following him on twitter. "So, I'd like to thank Harry for following me because I got like a zillion 12-year-olds who love me too. They think me and Harry are hanging out together, going out on the town." Turns out those girls were right. Soon after, the pair were snapped by the paparazzi enjoying a cozy dinner for two and recently reunited at this year's Sundance festival where Zach was presenting his latest film. After the premiere, the boy band cutie tweeted, 'I wasn't crying. I had sweaty eyes. Loved it."
