10 Of TV’s Scariest Dads

Since the debut of television, families have been depicted shows year after year. Some fathers are kind and loving, others are distant and some are not even present. All of them are fictitious, but those figures have influenced the way people see fatherhood in time.

The following fathers are what we depicted as some of the scariest fathers on TV. Not all have the look of a scary dad, but their actions or how they are capable of scaring any soon-to-be son-in-law or daughter-in-law. While some of these dads scare the living daylights into their children, some also so intimidating that they also scare away any potential friend their child might bring home. Sometimes their love for their family is questioned, but the feeling is the same… stay away from their children.

Jack Bauer, 24

Jack Bauer is played by Kiefer Sutherland in the famous series 24. Jack Bauer is a loving father toward his daughter (played by Elisha Cuthbert), but very protective which is where it becomes scary. People who have seen at least one season of the series 24 knows what he is capable of if you hurt his daughter. This highly skilled and armed agent can destroy and kill anything and anyone who is not walking straight of the law or is considered as a danger to America.

Frank Barone, Everybody Loves Raymond

Frank Barone, in the series Everyone loves Raymond was played by Peter Lawrence Boyle. The CBS series Everyone loves Raymond played for 9 seasons. The father of Raymond and his brother Robert Barone is a stubborn chauvinist man. He is a war veteran who served in the Korean war. This retired old man has nothing better to do than insult and critic every one he gets close to. The kind of father, and more generally the kind of man, no one likes to be around.

Phillip Banks, The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air

Phillip Banks is played by James LaRue Avery in the sitcom The Fresh Prince Of Bel-Air. He is the father of Carlton, Hillary and Ashley, and the uncle of Will (played by Will Smith). In this series, Phillip Banks is a successful judge who lives in Bel-Air. His impressive size of  6′ 5” makes him a scary father and uncle. With time, people realize that he is more like a teddy bear than a grizzly, but when he chooses to make his point, no one in the house dares to contradict him. He is known for physically throwing people out of his home (namely Jazz, Will’s friend) when he has reached his limit of endurance.

The power he also has through his profession creates a feeling of power coming from him that people can sense when watching the show. This dad is more on the kind side of the scary dad, meanwhile it’s probably a smart decision not to push his buttons.

Ari Gold, Entourage

Ari Gold, in the HBO series Entourage, is played by Jeremy Samuel Piven. During the 8 seasons of the show, Ari Gold shows himself to be a workaholic by being one of the most powerful agents in Hollywood. This psychopath and neurotic agent is living, speaking and doing everything at 200 miles an hour. Gold swears constantly and uses all kinds of drugs and alcohol.

He is very protective of his daughter to the point that when she starts dating an actor, he does everything in his power to break up the relationship. Finally, he succeeds by getting a contract for the actor in Kazakhstan. Around his young son, Ari is ironically very sensitive and loving, which seems out of character for this father. He would use everything at his disposal to protect his children from what he thinks is not good for them.

He swears frequently, is constantly being rude, and thinks only of himself. He played in only four episodes of the entire 10 season show. In these four episodes, we can see how Rachel has a conflictual relationship with her father, how Ross (her boyfriend at the time) is scared of him and can understand why no one among the six friends are strong enough to stand up to him. This character is the meanest role in the entire series, and a father that no one would like to have.

Bunker is very conservative in his position and summons his son for his liberal political. Archie was an old, racist man who would always berate his son-in-law (Mike) with the famous insult “Get out of my chair, Meathead!”

Archie Bunker is the kind of person that disagrees with everyone, and always has to be right. He would always fight with most people he would come into contact with. He is so selfish and self-centered that no one around him exists except himself!

His family falls apart when his wife becomes aware of his actions and people who have tried to kill him and his family. White does whatever he needs to make money such as; poisoning a kid, killing his brother-in-law, and numerous other people. At the end, he has no more contact with his children, and his wife cannot divorce him because she knows too much. She is very frightened by what he is capable of doing toward her and their children (he even kidnapped his own baby for a couple hours). The last two nicknames let people realize how scary and moody Red can be. After being hugged (which is a rare occurrence), he says “when the hell did this start? The kids all used to run away from me! That is the way I like it”. The father bullies his son every chance he gets, and often refers to him as a “dumbass”. Not a nickname a child would like to receive from their father. Not only is he a bully to his son, but also to his neighbour Bob and his sons gang of friends.
