There is no doubt that everyone know that celebrities have taken part in some of the craziest magazine photoshoots one can only imagine of seeing with their own eyes. From full-on nudity shots to guns held to their heads in hopes to spread a message against gun violence and police brutality. Of course, these photoshoots have not all been taken in good taste, meaning that some of them were purely done to shock the public, while others actually tried to use shock-value, hoping that the message can be conveyed better this way. Taking part in bizarre magazine photoshoots can also mean that the person in question is just looking out for some more attention on themselves, merely because they have something else to promote and that doing a controversial magazine photoshoot would get people interested. So, whether it was done for the pure interest of spreading a valid message to the public, or because they just wanted to draw attention to themselves, these are 10 of the craziest celebrity photoshoots ever.
10 Kim Kardashian Paper Magazine
2014 was shaping up to be a great year, right until the very end of it, when the one and only Kim Kardashian decided to shock the world with some very revealing photos for PAPER magazine. The 34-year-old reality star did not hold back for this photoshoot; she literally showed her entire body naked, and when I say everything, I mean everything. The photos were so outrageous, and caused so many people to wonder why a mother and a wife should not be posing nude like that at 34 years old.
9 Rihanna Lui Magazine
Rihanna being naked is nothing new when you consider how many times the songstress had openly flaunted her body for the world to see. But when LUI magazine unveiled the photos they had taken of the Bajan-beauty for their latest issue, even Rihanna’s fans were left stunned. The entire photoshoot simply saw Rih-Rih nude as she posed in some of the raunchiest positions you can imagine. Social media users agreed that her LUI magazine photoshoot had been her most daring yet.
8 Khloe Kardashian Complex Magazine
“Anything Kim can do, I can do so much better,” must have been the words coming out of Khloe Kardashian’s mouth when she signed on to take part in a photoshoot with Complex magazine. The 31-year-old wife to NBA player Lamar Odom, showed her estranged husband what he was missing out on when she posed in a sports outfit, making sure her booty was wide on display. As we all know, Khloe decided to get her booty lifted — better known as the Brazilian butt lift — and this is one of the first times we really got to see how well the surgeons did their job. I’d give ‘em a 9/10.
7 Kanye West Rolling Stone
Kanye West loves being controversial and shocking, so when the rapper decided to act out as Jesus for the cover of Rolling Stone magazine, he was sure to rub a lot of people the wrong way. Wearing the iconic crown of thorns on his head in a bewildered and filtered background, Kanye made sure he channeled his inner Jesus character for what would become one of the most talked about magazine covers in 2006. It was also named one of the best-selling issues for the news outlet for that same year, so a lot of people must have been drawn to purchase a copy once they saw the cover.
6 Cristiano Ronaldo and Irina Shayk Vogue
Cristiano Ronaldo and Irina Shayk drew some controversy to their photoshoot with VOGUE Spain, simply because it featured the famous soccer player wearing next to nothing on the cover. It is kind of ironic how people were somewhat upset by Cristiano being nude and the woman dressed, considering how it’s usually the other way around. Nonetheless, many of the shots taken for the magazine showed a very revealing Cristiano embrace his then-girlfriend, and a lot of people were grossed out by it. The concept just didn’t make sense.
5 True Blood Rolling Stone
HBO's very popular show True Blood, had one hell of a run. And while the show has since been cancelled, who can forget about that infamous and very controversial Rolling Stone cover that Anna Paquin and her two on-screen lovers partook on? The edgy and very risque photoshoot, which revolved around three good looking co-stars and their buffed bodies, smeared all over with blood, was one of the most talked about issues of 2010, giving the show’s upcoming season at the time an incredible ratings boost.
4 Madonna Interview
It's very apparent that Madonna doesn’t want to get old. How do we know this? Well, aside from the plastic surgery, the music features with the likes of Nicki Minaj, and the rather questionable dress sense, Madge still goes nude for magazine photoshoots. While it may be considered edgy for some people, others would say that Madonna really needs to stop with her ‘I’m desperate to shock you’ attitude. For her Interview magazine featured spread, the 57-year-old exposed her breasts in revealing poses that had clearly been airbrushed to the max.
3 Britney Spears Rolling Stone
It didn't take long for Britney Spears to shed her good girl image and start showing more than her male fan had bargained for. Her 1999 Rolling Stone magazine cover has gone down in history as one of the most shocking photo shoots of the 90s, and it all goes back to how Britney was presenting herself before she embarked on the idea of showing so much skin for the magazine cover. Brit was this sweet girl, and all of a sudden, she decided to spice it up a little, showing herself undressed, wearing nothing more than a bra and panties. Quite risque, but it was clear from this point that Britney was done with being this good girl the music industry had made her become.
2 Caitlyn Jenner Vanity Fair
Caitlyn Jenner's cover with Vanity Fair for its June issue was quite crazy and bizarre, simply because this was the first time the world would go on to see Caitlyn, formerly known as Bruce, as a woman. A lot of people were stunned to see the transformation that Jenner had undergone to get those feminine features in place, certainly making this one of the most talked about photoshoots of the year. Millions watched behind the scenes footage of the photoshoot online to see Caitlyn from other angles, and nobody could deny that she looked great.
1 Dr. Dre The Source
Many people were fuming over a magazine cover, shot for the The Source in 1992, that saw rap mogul, Dr. Dre, point a gun to his head with the finger on the trigger. Of course, if one wasn't familiar with Dre's music at that time, they wouldn't be aware of the fact that the rapper was very much against gun violence and police brutality. In fact, Dr. Dre fought for peace and justice -- something he did not believe America was serving its citizens. So, the photoshoot, which consisted of different poses of Dre holding a gun to his head, was quite controversial, but it seemed to have made its mark on why it was so important. And in the end, everybody paid attention, so their publicity strategy seemed to have worked.
