10 Chamila Asanka

Chamila Asanka, who was born a male, is a model from Sri Lanka. In 2011, she represented her country in the Miss International Queens Pageant. Asanka likely got noticed a lot more after wowing the judges during this competition due to her eloquence, glowing complexion and dark tresses. She is fairly new to the modeling world, but she is already making a significant impact. She is known for her steaming bikini photo shoots, but has also helped to promote a number of clothing lines. Asanka’s tattoos give her an edgy look that offsets some of her delicate features and makes her a bit edgier, especially when modeling semi-conservative and business casual attire.

9 Roberta Close

Roberta Close was born Luiz Roberto Gambine Moreira and is Brazilian. As a teenager, she took hormone injections, but didn't tell her family and friends. Some have speculated that Roberta was actually born a hermaphrodite. In 1989, she had gender reassignment surgery, and by the time she was 17, she already had a lucrative modeling career. Close was even voted the Most Beautiful Woman in Brazil when she posed nude for a men’s magazine. She was also the winner of the Miss Gay Brazil pageant and has made several movie appearances. She married Roland Granacher in 1993, but the couple decided to part ways in 2000.

8 Sirapassorn Atthayakorn

Sirapassorn, who is also known as Sammy, is a native of Thailand. In 2011, she was crowned the winner in the Miss International Queen pageant. Atthayakorn is a native of Thailand, and her slender build and toned body likely got the attention of pageant judges. Sammy has stated that she does not regret her decision to become female. As is the case for many transsexuals, the desire to change physical traits is deemed a necessity, since their inherit gender can’t be changed. Attayakorn is also a model, and her striking looks have helped to promote clothing lines and beauty products.

7 Claudia Charriez

Charriez is transsexual and has received international acclaim as a result of modeling. She definitely turns heads with her golden skin, toned body and bikini shoots that show off her curves. In 2008, Claudia Charriez was kicked off of America’s Next Top Model, as well as the television show The Janice Dickinson Modeling Agency, in 2008. But that didn't stop her from going after her modeling dreams. Later that year, she was a contestant on America’s Next Top Transsexual Model, hosted by Tyra Banks, who is also the host and creator of America’s Next Top Model. Charriez won the competition.

6 Lea T.

Lea T. is Brazilian, and was born Leandro Cerezo. Now, she is known as one of the world’s most famous transsexual models. Her defined cheekbones and sun-kissed complexion definitely garners attention when she’s on the runway, and she’s even been referred to as Givenchy’s muse. Cerezo is also the muse for designer Riccardo Ticsi. Her father, Tininho Cerezo, is a popular football player in Brazil. This is likely where Lea T. got her drive and determination to work towards her goals of becoming a huge name in the modeling world. Lea T. had her gender reassignment surgery in 2012, in Thailand. After a couple of weeks of adjusting and not being too pleased, she stated the following year that she was satisfied with the results of the surgery.

5 Andrej Pejic

Pejic, who is a Serbian model from Australia, isn't technically a woman. But, he is androgynous and can model both female and male clothing rather convincingly. Pejic is known for displaying the smoldering smoky eye and wearing clothing that shows off his well-toned legs. In 2011, he modeled both male and female fashions for famed designer Jean-Paul Gaultier, and walked the runway in male clothing for Marc Jacobs. ranked Andrej Pejic #18 on their list of Top 50 Male Models, while FHM placed him at #98 on the 100 Sexiest Women in the World in 2011.

4 Florencia De La V

In 1976, Florencia De La V was born Roberto Carlos Trinidad. The Argentinian actress is one of the most famous transgender celebrities in the world. After a court ruling in 2010, Florencia was officially recognized as a woman; at this point she changed her name. De La V makes club appearances often, and graces the covers of magazines frequently. She also stars in soap operas. Florencia’s official “coming out” was when she dressed as a woman to attend her friend’s 17th birthday party. After that point, she was known as Karen, until a boyfriend renamed her Florencia De La Vega, which is where her professional name comes from. Florencia De La V is currently married to a man, and the two have twins that were conceived with a surrogate.


3 Malika

Malika, who is Indian, has had four surgeries on her journey to become a woman. She has also had a number of minor medical procedures. She was the first person of Indian descent to compete in the Miss International Queen competition in Thailand, in 2011. Malika blogs actively and discusses various thought-provoking issues concerning making the transition into womanhood. She writes about the issues that transgender women face as well. She also has a degree in hotel management, and has stated that nothing is more rewarding for her than being a woman. Malika is also one of the top 10 transgender models in the world.

2 Caroline Cossey

Cossey, also known as Tula, was born Barry Kenneth Cossey. Even though Cossey was raised as a male, she took on female traits during puberty, due to a condition called Klinefelter’s syndrome. When Cossey was 16, she left her home in Brooke for London, where she found a number of low-paying jobs to support herself. At 17, she started hormone therapy and started working as a showgirl at a London night club. She had several surgeries to make the gender transition complete; the last one was in 1974. In 1981, Caroline Cossey was in For Your Eyes Only, a James Bond film. Cossey currently lives in Georgia with her husband David Finch, a comic book artist.

1 Isis King

King was born Darrell Walls, and is well-known for her time on America’s Next Top Model, as the first transgender person to appear on the modeling competition show as a contestant. She competed on two seasons of America’s Next Top Model, and many of her struggles to find self-acceptance and deal with the sting of ridicule were recorded on the show. She had been a runway model for seven years before becoming a contestant on the show. King states that while people may label her as transsexual, she prefers to explain her identity by saying she was simply born in the wrong body. Isis is also a fashion designer and has a degree from the Art Institute of Philadelphia.
