10 Female Celebs People Thought Were Born Male

Many women love the idea of being tall and having unique facial features, but what happens when those genes start giving you more than what you had hoped for. In the unfortunate turn of events, females sometimes inherit too much from their father’s side, resulting in them sporting more manly features than feminine ones. It seems to be extra difficult being in that situation as a celebrity — simply because these female celebs are consistently scrutinized for their appearance. When something does not look the way society wants us to think is normal, it is instantly judged upon. This is no different to these women who have made the list for female celebs people thought were born male. The majority of these women carry exceptionally strong male features while others are rather tall and muscular; traits which are most commonly seen in men. Trust the media to spread a report that catches on so quick, people are instantly convinced by the stories they read. While these female celebrities would have most likely not wanted to have been targeted under rumors that they were born as men, all ten celebs have struggled to rid themselves from the title which some have failed to shake off for decades.

10. Towanda Braxton

People have always questioned whether Toni Braxton’s sister Towanda Braxton, was actually born a man due to some of the strong male facial features she possesses. Fans of the family’s reality show Braxton Family Values, were rather quick to point out that out of all the Braxton siblings in the family, Towanda was the only one who could pass as a man. Besides her manly facial features, it does not help the fact that this Braxton star is one of the tallest members in the famous family.

9. Dot Jones

Glee fans were stunned to learn that Dot Jones was, in fact, a woman. The actress, who played Shannon Beiste on the FOX series, was always speculated to have been born a man, but rumors erupted when Jones agreed to portray a woman who was trapped in a man’s body. Glee producers had opted for Dot to portray a powerful woman who became super sensitive on the topic of transition to become a man. Since the episode aired last year, people are still questioning whether the actress is a man or not.

8. Donatella Versace

Donatella Versace could walk down the street and tell everybody she was born male — and nobody would actually stop to think twice or even question her on it. Why? Well, the fashion designer has become such a plastic surgery fanatic that the stunning features that she once possessed are now looking more and more that of an ailing old man with a wig on his head. Versace has been looking crazy since the early 00s when people started wondering where these strong manly features were coming from — turned out it was all from her plastic surgery obsession.

7. Pink

Pink, born Alecia Beth Moore, is so masculine, it is easy not to think she was born male. The singer, who has always put up a hardcore persona, started a discussion of her own when she first made a name for herself in the music industry. Many believed that in her early days, the pink-haired songstress was a hyperactive man dressed in drag. Thankfully as years went by, people gradually accepted the fact that the 35-year-old was, indeed, a woman. She pretty much confirmed this after birthing her daughter, Willow Sage Hart.

6. Tilda Swinton

Tilda Swinton is one of the most stunning women in Hollywood. She is definitely a unique beauty, but her odd style has had a lot of people questioning whether the actress was born female or not. Looking at Tilda, it is evident that she could easily pass as a man; her short  hairdo along with her overbearing facial features could understandably make others think she is a man. Her sense of fashion is not necessarily feminine, in the sense that she wears whatever suits her body, which usually consists of suits or formal shirts. Not exactly glamorous, right?

5. Rosie O’Donnell

Rosie O’Donnell is a man — at least, that’s what we would have assumed judging by her overwhelming masculine appearance. In fact, Rosie shares a lot of resemblance with Dot Jones, who has also made the list of female celebs rumored to have been born male. Other than her appearance, everything about Rosie is masculine. During her time on The View, the talk-show host easily intimidated her co-hosts by her overbearing persona, if Rosie had something to say, she would let you know in an aggressive manner. That’s certainly an un-ladylike manner.

4. Serena Williams

Serena Williams can act as feminine as she wants, she will never get a break from those who think she is not all woman. Many have argued in the past that Serena is too muscular to be a woman, having compared the 33-year-old to the likes of Maria Sharapova and Steffi Graf — who are considerably skinnier than the tennis champ. Williams has admitted that her daily gym routine includes weight lifting and hour-long cardio sessions. The heavier her workout becomes, the more she eats on that particular day, resulting in muscle growth. Do people not know this basic information about muscle growth?

3. Wendy Williams

Talk-show host Wendy Williams has grown tired of people thinking she was born male simply because she towers over every woman she stands next to. Of course when you combine this with Wendy’s very large hands and feet, and her infamous refusal to show what she is hiding underneath her wig, it is not hard to see why people may believe that the 50-year-old could potentially be a man. Williams has been very vocal, saying she was definitely born female, and that the rumors which have been circulating since the 90s, no longer bother her.

2. Lady Gaga

During the peak of her career, Lady Gaga’s name was thrown into a rumor that had fans speculating whether their pop idol was male or female. A story which emerged on Bossip had alleged that the Poker Face singer told a reporter the following, “It’s not something that I’m ashamed of, just isn’t something that I go around telling everyone. Yes. I have both male and female genitalia, but I consider myself a female.” The story went viral, and Gaga was instantly assumed to have been born male. The interest on whether Gaga was a man or not became such a huge topic that the 28-year-old referenced hermaphrodite rumors in some of her songs, including Telephone. A rep for the singer stated back in 2009 that Gaga all woman.

1. Ciara

Ciara faced a rumor that she just could not shake off. During her Goodies era in 2004, stories emerged about the singer who was alleged to have had her penis removed at birth. Her parents had allegedly hoped to welcome a boy to the world, so when their plans did not go as expected, the duo decided to make a woman out of their son. Note that back in 2004, social media was nowhere near as advanced as it is today, so whatever rumor had made its way online, people instantly believed it. Despite having denied being born male, Ciara has not had much luck shaking off the decade-old story — even after she gave birth to a baby boy, last year.
