By now almost everyone has heard the phrase “making it rain”, which involves tossing money up in the air to make it look like it’s raining down on someone (most often a stripper). Showering dancers with fistfuls of cash is a luxury that many of us cannot afford, but those who can enjoy taking advantage of it. The phrase became popular sometime around 2011 and has been credited to rapper Young Jeezy.
Jeezy explained to Rolling Stone magazine that he saw himself like Robin Hood, making money “so that the hood could eat. A part of the hood was the strip club…When you on that next level, you gotta take care of the city, the streets. All of that consists of going to the strip clubs and throwing up money.”
Although this hobby is more prevalent in strip clubs across America, it can also happen anywhere at any time, even when the forecast calls for clear skies. If you happen to be in the right place at the right time, you may just get lucky and start scrambling for as many one dollar bills as you can possibly get your hands on. Here are 10 celebrities who love to make it rain.
10 Floyd Mayweather
9 Kendall Jenner
8 50 Cent
Even though famed rapper 50 Cent filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy, he doesn’t seem to be taking it very seriously. 50 has posed for many photos with loads of cash since going bankrupt, and has spent tons of money at strip clubs. He has been seen at the Ace of Diamonds strip club in West Hollywood making it rain on his favorite dancers. He showed up to an After Dark pool party with a big wad of cash and left with none of it. The rapper filed bankruptcy the same day he made it rain because he had two huge judgments against him: a $5 million lawsuit that he owed to Rick Ross, and $17.2 million that he owed to the headphone company Sleek Audio.
7 Donald Trump
Long before Donald Trump’s presidential aspirations took over the country, “The Donald” was a bit more of a lighthearted and fun loving guy who was involved in professional wrestling from time to time. Trump battled WWE owner Vince McMahon at WrestleMania 23, although the two did not actually wrestle each other, but had wrestlers representing them. Trump’s guy Bobby Lashley won the match, and Donald shaved Vince’s head. Leading up to that match, Trump appeared on Monday Night RAW where he gave away what was claimed to be McMahon’s money by dropping several $10, $50, and $100 bills from the rafters, which was confirmed to be real money.
We all know that Drake is a baller who seems to turn anything he touches into money. He walked into the Cameo Nightclub in Charlotte, North Carolina with a cardboard box, which caught the attention of the club’s strippers and patrons. Drake started pulling out bricks of money which added up for $50 thousand. He then proceeded to throw the money all over the club, causing a huge rain storm. Drake’s buddy chipped in for another $25 grand and some of the club’s dancers certainly went home happy. Drake has also been seen making it rain at H-town gentleman’s club with Rihanna, and at King of Diamonds in Miami with Lil Wayne, where they donated $250 thousand in singles.
5 O.T. Genasis
Rapper O.T. Genasis may not be very well known, but he made sure to make himself known at the Ace of Diamonds strip club in Los Angeles when he showed up to make it rain with his Cash Cannon money gun. According to the product’s official website, the Cash Cannon can be used to “distribute paper items in an exciting but controlled motion.” Genasis loaded up the gun, which can hold 1,000 bills, and reportedly did so five times, spending a total of $5 thousand. O.T. Genasis released his debut mixtape Black Belt on G-Unit records in 2012 and is best known for his single “CoCo”.
4 Amber Rose
3 Daz Dillinger
Rapper and producer Daz Dillinger decided to make it rain in the streets, showering homeless people with dollar bills. While this was certainly a good deed, the way he went about it resulted in a somewhat ridiculous display that seemed a bit insulting to the people he made it rain on. Dillinger was giving away the money as part of a publicity stunt for a website, and for all we know it may not have even been his own cash he was giving out. Daz is best known as one half of the hip hop duo Tha Dogg Pound along with Kurupt. His latest album Weed Money was released in 2014, and Dillinger has worked as a producer for Death Row Records. It is not known exactly how much money he made it rain with, but Daz Dillinger has a net worth of $1.5 million.
2 Trey Songz
Usually strippers like when rappers make it rain on them, because that means they get to collect lots and lots of cash to take home. That was not the case when rapper Trey Songz hosted the official released party for his album Chapter V at a gentleman’s club called Club Perfection in Queens, New York. Songz threw money at a woman, who pressed charges against him because the money struck her left eye and caused her “substantial pain”. It is unsure if the woman was actually a stripper at the club. Trey must have done something right, because Chapter V went on to reach #1 on both the Billboard 200 and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums charts.
1 Fetty Wap
Instead of making it rain at a strip club, rapper Fetty Wap decided to make it rain during the daytime at the Garden State Plaza Mall in Paramus, New Jersey. Fetty is a native of Paterson, NJ, and was shopping with his daughter. He decided to spread some love and throw $2,000 from the mall’s balcony to anyone who happened to be there at the time. Fetty Wap later tweeted “Never (k)no(w) who needed it”. The rapper has had a big year, dropping his self-titled debut studio album, which reached #1 in the United States and contains the hit singles “Trap Queen”, “679”, and “My Way”. Fetty Wap can easily afford to make it rain $2 thousand with his net worth of $2 million.
