10 Celebs Who Have Received Shocking Death Threats

Death threats are nothing to play around with. They should always be taken seriously, because you never know what people are capable of. There are several reasons why someone may send a death threat. It could be to scare or to antagonize someone they’re having a feud with. It could be a terrifying warning to an ex lover. Or, the death threat could be meant for a celebrity. Celebrities receive death threats more often than you may think. The threats could occur when a celebrity wins an award that some members of the public believe should have gone to someone else. Celebrities also receive ominous messages when they begin dating someone who is considered a heartthrob. Of course, there are times when it’s not really clear why a famous person would receive a death threat. Perhaps the threat comes from an obsessed fan who is upset that he/she can’t be with the celebrity romantically or have a friendship with the famous person. Yes, some threats are just empty words on a social media platform, but it’s still important to take the necessary precautions. Here are 10 celebs who have gotten some pretty shocking death threats.

10 Erin Andrews

The Dancing With the Stars host and former ESPN anchorwoman received some pretty harsh death threats from a Twitter user in 2012. The user reportedly told Andrews that he would “chop her apart “ if she ever made eye contact with him. The Twitter user also stated that he would tell the world about a “genetic issue” that Erin Andrews “got from her parents.” The most shocking threat informed Andrews that he would “kill her next time.” These are just a few of the messages she got online. Andrews likely took the message very seriously, since she was stalked and filmed through a peephole when she was staying at a hotel in Nashville in 2008. The following year, a video of Andrews, completely naked, appeared online and went viral.

9 Selena Gomez

The former Disney star and big-screen actress made lots of young girls angry when she started dating pop singer Justin Bieber. She received a number of death threats in 2011, stating that her life would end if she continued her romantic relationship with Bieber. The two have since split but had an on-again off-again relationship. Since Gomez and Bieber are about a year apart and Selena started dating him when he was 17, some of Bieber’s fans referred to her as a pedophile and warned her to stay away from Justin. One fan bluntly wrote on one of Gomez’s social media page, “I’m gonna kill ya.” Scary.

8 Michael Vick

The former Atlanta Falcons player who went on to play for the Philadelphia Eagles got into a lot of legal trouble years ago when he was charged for dog fighting. There have since been reports that friends and relatives of Michael Vick were holding dog fights on his property, but sports fans have still not completely forgiven him for his alleged or associated cruelty to animals. In 2013, after he received death threats on Facebook, Vick decided to cancel some of his book signings. Someone posted that he would go there to “slit Vick’s throat” because of the way the athlete treated animals.

7 David Letterman

The famous late night talk show host who recently retired got a few pretty serious death threats of his own because of some of his jokes. A jihadist website sent threatening messages to Letterman in 2011, because he joked about Ilyas Kashmiri’s death. Comedians are known for being humorous about controversial subjects, but it’s obvious that his humor was not received well by some in this case. Letterman hosted his late night talk show for 33 years, and his production company has produced several successful shows besides The Late Show With David Letterman, including The Late Show With Craig Ferguson and Everybody Loves Raymond.

6 Nicole Scherzinger

The former front-woman of the Pussycat Dolls, singer and former X-Factor judge, received death threats after a contestant was eliminated from the X-Factor. The young contestant was just 14, and the threats may have come from family and friends of the contestant who were unhappy with her elimination. Scherzinger stated that the threats got so bad that she was afraid to leave her hotel room. Scherzinger, who is also an actress, appeared in the films Men In Black 3, and was in a revival of the popular musical Cats, for which she received a Laurence Olivier for Best Actress in a Supporting Role in a Musical nomination. Scherzinger is soon to appear on the television show I Can Do That.

5 Halle Berry

The veteran movie and TV actress and Academy Award winner received death threats from a man who claimed that he would slit her throat. This occurred in 2012, and Berry announced that she would be moving to France for her safety. Luckily, Berry’s husband, Olivier Martinez, is from France, so the move wouldn’t be too difficult of a transition. It appears that Martinez is quite capable of protecting his wife, since he got into a physical altercation with Halle Berry’s ex, model Gabriel Aubry, who is also the father or her daughter Nahla. Berry was also previously married to baseball star David Justice and singer Eric Benet.

4 Chris Brown

The death threats against R&B star Chris Brown were so serious in 2013, that the LAPD investigated them. Brown has had his share of run-ins with the law, so it’s likely a comfort that in this case, the police were trying to protect him. Brown is unfortunately well known for a domestic dispute that occurred between him and this then-girlfriend, singer Rihanna, a few years ago. Chris Brown has also gotten arrested for getting into fights in nightclubs, and was in the news for losing his temper while on the set of Good Morning America and throwing a chair out of the window. Recently, a woman broke into Brown’s home and was waiting for him in bed when he arrived home. That’s pretty frightening.

3 Taylor Swift

Taylor Swift is quite well known for dating high-profile celebrities, breaking up with them, and using the relationship and breakup as material for a few hit songs. Swift once dated One Direction singer Harry Styles. When the pair split, fans of Styles thought that Taylor may have been insulting him on Twitter, and they didn’t take too kindly to that. Fans called her worthless and warned her that “hell was hers” because she didn’t speak highly of Styles. Some crazed fans of Styles and One Direction also instructed to “go die,” and informed her that she’d messed with the wrong group of fans.

2 Kanye West

Everyone remembers the MTV Video Award show incident in which Kanye West interrupted Taylor Swift’s award acceptance speech, stating that Beyonce should have won the award instead. While it was pretty rude (and mildly entertaining), it was certainly no reason for people to start sending West death threats. A number of Taylor Swift’s fans sent the rapper and clothing designer threats, but West didn’t seem to be too worried. He’s been known to attack paparazzi and is obviously pretty outspoken. Kanye West is also the reason Emily Eavis has recently received death threats. Eavis booked West to perform at the Glastonbury music festival, and the attendees usually don’t take too well to rap acts. However, Eavis has not changed her mind about the booking.

1 President Barack Obama

Unfortunately, the leader of the free world is not immune from death threats. President Obama has received more than 10 death threats since he took office in 2008, and the threats are considered credible. Telegraph even reports that that president receives about 30 death threats daily. He is constantly protected by the Secret Service. Many of the threats have been due to disagreement about some of President Obama’s policies, and a number of the threats have been due to the fact that Obama is the first black president of the United States. A white supremacist group in Tennessee even threatened to rob a gun store, shoot 88 black people, decapitate 14 more black people and then assassinate the president. The amount of death threats to the person who holds the office of president has increased by 400 percent since the time George W. Bush was in the White House.Sources:
