Celebrities don’t always have the luxury of hiding from the world when their weight begins to fluctuate. The second they step outside of their homes, the paparazzi is right there to capture photographs of their bodies at each and every angle. The media can be absolutely brutal, and whether these celebrities gain too much or too little weight, they are bound to be criticized, mocked, and critiqued about their bodies on a national platform.
But sometimes, celebrities go to the extreme to adhere to Hollywood’s skewed standard of beauty, and male and female celebrities alike feel they need to maintain a certain weight and size if they want to stay in the good graces of industry executives. These drastic measures that many stars go through to stay under a certain weight can sometimes lead to shockingly scary weight loss, unhealthy eating habits, and damaging eating disorders. At the end of the day, they may feel they look better on the big screen, but inside, they’re going through turmoil.
Thankfully, many celebrities eventually take a look in the mirror and realize their unnaturally thin frames are doing them more harm than good, and over time, they slowly revert back to a healthier, curvier physique. Gaining weight doesn’t always mean the end of these celebrities’ careers, and if anything, their changed appearance sends a strong message to Hollywood bigwigs who feel they can dictate and regulate a celeb’s appearance.

10. Angelina Jolie
Angelina Jolie‘s weight took a nosedive when the actress underwent a preventative double mastectomy back in 2013. Jolie was told by her doctors that due to her family’s history with cancer, she had a higher chance of developing breast cancer. But her health issues didn’t end there, she went on to have a preventive oophorectomy after it was discovered she had a 50% chance of developing ovarian cancer.
Her health issues led to massive weight loss, and at the time, the gaunt actress kept her procedures a secret from the world. She has slowly begun to gain some of the pounds back, and even though she’s not close to her normal weight, her recent, fuller appearance gives us hope that the actress is on the road to recovery.
9. Amber Rose
Back when Amber Rose was dating Kanye West, she still had her curves, but she was as thin as a rail. It seemed like Rose took that “Kanye Workout Plan” to heart, because her svelte frame definitely raised some eyebrows. After ending her relationship with the rapper, Rose gained a little bit of weight in all the right places. She now looks healthier, sexier, and happier than ever!
8. Nicole Richie
When Nicole Richie stepped out with a shockingly thin frame, tabloids worldwide questioned the reality TV star’s health. She later blamed her drastic weight loss on her 2005 breakup from the late DJ Adam Goldstein. She told People magazine, “I get really stressed out, and I do lose my appetite.”
Loss of appetite is a side-effect of depression, but we have to believe that Richie’s fast lifestyle didn’t do her any favors. In 2006, she was arrested for DUI when she was pulled over driving on the wrong side of a California freeway. She admitted to police that she had smoked marijuana and taken a Vicodin earlier in the day. At the time of her arrest, the 5’1″ star weighed only 85 pounds.
Following her arrest and brief stint behind bars (and by brief, we mean 82 minutes in total) Richie went to treatment for drug and alcohol abuse, and worked with a psychiatrist, personal trainer, and nutritionalist to get her life back on track. After getting married to Good Charlotte’s Joel Madden and having two children, Richie seems to be on the road to recovery. She has gained a little bit of her weight back, and we must say, those few pounds have really done wonders.
7. Christina Aguilera
When Christina Aguilera released “Genie in a Bottle” back in 1999, she was a tiny, 5’2″ songstress who captured the world by storm. Due to her growing popularity, Aguilera received pressure from record company executives to maintain her image. To them, that imagine equated to Aguilera staying a certain weight.
The singer has revealed that after her first album was released, she gained 15 pounds, and her record company wasn’t happy about it at all. That tried to fat shame her by saying people at the company would lose their jobs because of her weight gain. Instead of buckling under pressure, Aguilera owned her curves, and she refused to let outsiders dictate her appearance.
Now a mother of two, Aguilera’s body has filled out, and she’s no longer the frail teenager that we once knew. She is comfortable in her own skin, and why shouldn’t she be? She looks amazing!

Pre-fame Nicki Minaj photos are hard to come across, but there are a few hidden gems on the web that show the rapper looking slim and trim prior to taking the world by storm. Many attribute Minaj’s weight gain to plastic surgery, and this could definitely be the reason why she’s looking more plump these days. Her breast and butt look to be enhanced, but either way, the extra weight has given Minaj some much needed womanly curves.
5. Jennifer Hudson
When Jennifer Hudson appeared on American Idol back in 2004, she was noticeably overweight, but to us, she was still beautiful! Even though she was booted off the show, she went on to have quite a successful singing and acting career, and her weight gain became a topic of discussion.
Hudson eventually shed 80 pounds, and she attributed her weight loss to a Weight Watchers diet. She credited portion control, and resisting tempting foods to her weight loss success.
But when Hudson debuted her new, thin frame on social media, the world was in awe…and not in a good way. She looked almost sickly, and many wondered if she had actually had a surgical procedure to aid in her weight loss. Thankfully, Hudson has gained some of the weight back, and it has really done wonders for her overall appearance.

Jennifer Love Hewitt has always been the svelte and angelic, brunette bombshell, but as the actress got older, she faced issues with her weight. It was reported that Hewitt was fired from Criminal Minds for being heavy, even though she was pregnant at the time. The actress has had two kids, and although she has lost some of the weight, she’s now rocking some curves that any woman would love to have!
3. Demi Lovato
Demi Lovato has always been vocal about battling an eating disorder. The 23-year-old singer and actress has gone to rehab for “emotional and physical issues,” as well as issues relating to her eating disorder and bulimia. She told Fitness magazine, “I was obsessing over food and terrified of it at the same time. I was done being afraid of food and so tired of overeating and not knowing why I did it. Now I’m on a structured meal plan. I eat four small meals and two snacks a day. It’s teaching me portion control.”

And my body wasn’t that healthy—my hands would cramp up a lot because I wasn’t getting the nutrition I needed.”
