Are you a dinosaur enthusiast? Have you ever thought of owning the skeleton of a dinosaur? If yes, here is your chance to own one. The Diplodocus skeleton is being put up for sale next month by an auction house in Britain. This could be your once-in-a-lifetime chance to possess the skeleton of a prehistoric giant-sized dinosaur. The 17-meter long and 6-meter tall skeleton is 150 million years old and is nicknamed Misty. It is expected that it will be sold for $956,000 at the auction.
The Diplodocus skeleton was discovered by the sons of Raimund Albersdoerfer, a paleontologist, in Wyoming in 2009. The skeleton was found almost completely intact. Raimund had sent his sons Benjamin aged 14 years and Jacob aged 11 years away to peacefully complete his excavation at Dana Quarry. He was completely taken aback when the children returned later and informed him about their discovery.
It took nine weeks to completely excavate the skeleton. It was removed with a lot of difficulty in the Netherlands and was assembled in the UK. The auction will be conducted at Summers Place Auctions, Billingshurst, Sussex, and overseen by Errol Fuller, natural history expert as well as writer.
