10 Rappers Who Need To Go On 'Iyanla Fix My Life'

Oprah Winfrey really knows how to pick them. She is able to pluck talented people who are doing great things in their respective fields and give them a national and even global platform. She has done this with current household personalities like Dr. Phil, Rachael Ray, Nate Berkus and the topic of this article, Iyanla Vanzant.

Iyanla is a highly respected spiritual teacher and life coach who has been able to transform all the trials and tribulations of her own life into a shining testimony for others to follow. In her show Iyanla Vanzant Fix My Life on Oprah’s OWN network, she has tried to bring clarity and peace to the lives of people going through difficult and seemingly insurmountable situations in her lives. She also books quite a few celebrities on her show, and these have included DMX (must-watch TV) and most recently Karrueche Tran. She has a straight up, no nonsense style, and that’s why we feel the 8 rappers below need a candid session with her. Read on below:

10 Migos

Two years ago, a rap crew debuted on the scene with a hit song called “Versace Versace” that took over the rap game. It was by the Atlanta trio named Migos, and even Drake made his own version of the song which obviously made the track an even bigger hit. Since then, the group has gotten even bigger and they have created a name for themselves with songs centered around selling drugs, fast cars and the fast life. They have also been getting into a lot of trouble with other rap crews like Chief Keef’s GBE posse. In a recent documentary by the VICE music channel Noisey, they profiled the Migos crew and it showed how dangerous these guys are actually living. Their home and recording studio was brimming with guns and marijuana. It looked like a powder keg about to explode. Perhaps a couple of sessions with Iyanla will help them put all the distractions away and focus on their already successful rap careers.

9 Lil Twist

The 22-yr-old rapper Lil’ Twist is originally from Texas, and for a while, it seemed like he had a really promising career. But once again, it seems the fast life is ruining a young talent right before our very eyes. Twist is signed to Lil Wayne’s Young Money label and he was actually one of Justin Bieber’s inner-circle party crew when the Canadian superstar was going wayward and throwing crazy parties at his California mansion. But Twist is even in more serious trouble. Last month, he was charged with six felonies of robbery and assault in relation to an incident last year with Chris Massey, the brother of Disney star, Kyle Massey. It’s not known yet whether he will have to do any jail time or not, but if he continues down this path, nothing good can come from it. This is one case where Iyanla Vanzant could possibly step in and do lot of good.

8 Shawty Lo

38-yr-old rapper Shawty Lo is one of the more recognizable names on the Atlanta music scene. He has had a couple of major hits on the national scene, and there was even a time when he was closely collaborating with 50 Cent. However, what he is really known for is something quite different from his music. Mr. Lo happens to have 11 kids by 10 different women. His explanation for this during an interview in 2013 was that he was once a very successful drug dealer in his neighborhood. And when the money started coming in, the women followed and apparently he just couldn’t control himself. He even had the audacity to state that he wanted all of these women to have abortions but they didn’t. We don’t know about you, but this young man seems like a prime candidate for the life fixer, Iyanla.

One of the recent viral hits in the Hip-Hop industry has been the story of Atlanta, GA rapper-slash-weirdo ILOVEMAKONNEN. He calls himself a bedroom producer, but last year, his career was quickly propelled from the bedroom to the mainstream in a major way. He put out a song called “Tuesday” that caught fire on the internet and Drake made a remix of the catchy tune that made it even bigger. He was eventually signed to Drake’s OVO label and has been a major fixture on the Hip-Hop scene ever since. This guy has a bright future ahead of him, but here is why he needs to see Iyanla. He’s an admitted drug addict, and has said before that he loves psychedelic drugs (like mushrooms and acid). He was also under house arrest before he became famous. It all stemmed from an incident when he was playing with a loaded gun which accidentally went off and killed his friend. There are a lot of issues with this guy that certainly need to be straightened out before fame makes them even worse.

6 Azealia Banks

At this point, what can be said about the young fire-starter Azealia Banks that hasn’t already been discussed? Even though the 23-yr-old NYC rapper is extremely talented and very unique, there’s an angry energy and anxiety in her that might cause her to implode before she reaches her full potential. For example, most of you have seen the lengthy interview she had with Ebro on Hot 97 when she broke down and started crying when discussing how black artists are often mistreated and cheated in the music industry. She made some valid points, but she also hurled venomous insults in the direction of T.I. and Iggy Azalea that really muddled up her message. She might be among the most talented rappers out there, but she needs a long chat on the couch with Iyanla Vanzant to sort some of her issues out.

5 Kevin Gates

28-yr-old rapper Kevin Gates has only been on the scene for a few years now. But in that short time, the Baton Rouge native has already made a whole lot of headlines. Gates (who has several face tattoos) has been in and out of the jail system and he was recently all over the internet for a TMZ video that showed him fighting with two female fans at a small club performance in Flint, Michigan. He’s a big, scary-looking guy and we have no idea why he would ever raise his hands to a woman. Another report also surfaced in the past of how he was knowingly sleeping with his blood cousin for two years. When asked about it, he really thought there was nothing wrong with that. “Hey Iyanla, we have Kevin Gates for you on Line 1.”

4 Wiz Khalifa

If there is any rapper that’s looking like he might be slowly falling off the rails right now, it’s the lanky, tatted-up Pittsburgh emcee known as Wiz Khalifa. It’s really funny how fame tends to change people. When Wiz first came up on the scene in the mid-late 2000’s, he was mellow, calm and all about the music. But once the hits and the money started coming in, he has started to live his life like a modern-day Jimi Hendrix. In one of his most recent videos named “Decisions,” we see Khalifa doing some serious partying with tons of weed, liquor and people sipping on codeine from plastic cups. He currently has a son with ex-wife Amber Rose and being a dad requires a healthy dose of responsible living. It seems he could really benefit from a session with Iyana Vanzant.

3 Bobby Shmurda

In the Hip-Hop world, fortunes can come and go so quickly. That is exactly the case with the career of the young, promising Brooklyn rapper, Bobby Shmurda. He exploded on the scene with the viral hit song and video “Hot Ni**a.” The song even produced a trendy dance called the Shmoney that people were emulating in clubs everywhere. But alas, he wasn’t able to put his street life behind him. After having one of the most successful summers for any new artist, he was arrested on Dec 17th of last year with 14 other members of his GS9 crew. Charges included gun possession, conspiracy to commit murder, reckless endangerment and more. His bail was set at $2 million and he’s been in the clinker ever since. Things are looking very bleak for this young artist; perhaps a jailhouse visit by Iyanla Vanzant can brighten up his future.

2 Gucci Mane

There are quite a few rappers that can’t seem to stay out of jail, and one of the top names on the list has to be the 35-yr-old Atlanta rapper Gucci Mane. His most recent conviction was for 3 years in the slammer for federal gun possession charges. Before then, he has had other serious legal issues like battery and assault. Even outside of the legal realm, he had numerous beefs with big name rappers like Young Jeezy and Nicki Minaj. You can’t talk about Gucci without mentioning the unexplainable ice-cream cone he got tattooed on his face. The Zone-6 rapper won’t be on the streets anytime soon, but perhaps Iyanla could talk some sense into him so when he’s finally released, to make sure he never goes back to jail ever again.

1 Chris Brown

Rapper/singer Chris Brown may be 25-yrs-old, but I think we can all admit that there are so many occasions when he acts like a spoiled brat. A lot of his missteps can be attributed to the inevitable folly of youth, but a time must come when a maturation process needs to occur. Lately, the issue that has been playing over the news is the constant back and forth between him and his on-off girlfriend Karrueche Tran. And now, there is the added complication of the 10-month old daughter he has named Royalty. With everything this guy has going on in his life; probation, partying, womanizing – and now a young daughter, he needs a sit down with Iyanla to really sort some things out for the next chapter in his life.
