For many women, the first love of their life is the man that helped bring them into this world, their father. Due to a number reasons, it seems that many men have real soft spots for their little girls. This is no different in the celebrity world.
Daughters have a way of being able to make their fathers melt. This is not only reserved for when they are small children. The female celebrities in this article have grown up with strong male figures, who have supported them throughout the difficult transition into a woman from a young lady having to deal with relationships, careers and much more.
Of course, not all father-daughter relationships run smoothly all the time. Even in some of the cases we bring you below, there have been some testing times between these daddies and daughters. But overall, it's fair to say that their relationships have only become stronger through the turbulence of rebellion, arguments and family problems. Here we bring you 10 female celebrities who have a very special place in their hearts for their dear fathers and despite growing older, they are still very much 'daddy's little girl'.
10 Jordin Sparks
Singer Jordin Sparks is daughter of once professional football player, Philippi Sparks. As a result, Jordin knows her sport, following her father’s career. Growing up she was given sound advice by her dad about fame, “He always said, do your best and always work hard because there's always going to be someone coming up behind you wanting your spot." And that stuck with me.” Both her parents have been by her side in the past, for example when they supported Jordin on the red carpet for the premiere of Sparkle.
Jordin was also said to be spending more time with her father, after her breakup with her singer Jason Derulo. In September 2014, she Tweeted, "I love my dad! He's so awesome. He drove into the city with Cubby's BBQ because he knows it's my favorite!!! He's the best!”
9 Kendall and Kylie Jenner
For Bruce Jenner, nothing seems to be more important than his two daughters, Kylie and Kendall Jenner. For these two ladies, it has become clear how important their father is to them as they have kick started their own careers.
Most recently, with rumors flooding the media about Bruce Jenner’s rife sex change, the girls have been nothing but supportive for their dad. In a recent interview with GQ magazine, Kendall Jenner made sure that they didn't walk all over her with questions about Bruce. When they asked her about her father’s journey, she said: "That’s not about me, so we can move on?" Both ladies are also exceptionally active on social media. In February, Kylie showed her love for her daddy on Vine with his changing looks over the years.
8 Liv Tyler
You can say that Liv Tyler’s upbringing was somewhat rocky, only finding out in the later years of her childhood that Aerosmith lead, Steven Tyler was her biological father. Liv has been appreciative of the fact that she essentially has two fathers and appreciates them both.
But since Liv found out that Steve was her real father, their relationship has really developed. The two got the media talking first when Liv Tyler played a wild girl in Aerosmith’s video for “Crazy” when she was just 17. She was cast for the video without knowing the family connection. At the end of the year, they both appeared on the front cover of Rolling Stones magazine. Later in 1998, Aerosmith provided the soundtrack with “I Don’t Wanna Miss A Thing”, for Armageddon which starred Liv Tyler. Steve Tyler told USA Today: "I figured if I got a couple songs in this movie, I'd get a chance to spend time with Liv…I never see her. These days, she does three movies to my one album”.
It’s true to say that whilst the two have a lot of love for each other, they probably don’t get to see each other quite as much as they would like to. Liv also mentioned this in an interview with Wonderland in 2011, saying, "In the past few years we haven’t been very close. He has been going through a lot of things on his own..” Nevertheless these two have a very unique bond as father and daughter
7 Rashida Jones
Actress Rashida Jones has a very famous father by the name of Quincy Jones, musician and media mogul. When Rashida was just 17, she showed the world how much her dad means to her. Late rapper Tupac Shakur, made some scathing comments about her dad’s relationships, saying, "All he does is stick his d*ck in white bi*ches and make fu**ed up kids”. In response to this, Rashida wrote a letter to Tupac defending her father that was published in The Source.
In 2013, Rashida also paid tribute to her dad in a piece for Variety, celebrating his legacy on his birthday, writing, "My dad is an enormous beating heart. I am deeply honored to consider myself the daughter of the best role model on earth. Happy birthday, Daddy. I love you without end”. Last year it was also announced that Rashida, Quincy and her mother Peggy Lipton, would star together in a TV series called Tribeca, with her parents playing her on screen mother and father.
6 Zoe Kravitz
Zoe Kravitz’s parents, singer Lenny Kravitz and actress Lisa Bonet, married in 1987 and divorced six years later when Zoe was just 5. She lived with her mother until she was 11, and then went to live with her father and would see Lisa over the summers.
Zoe has a great relationship with her father. She has spoken about how Lenny taught her discipline growing up. Talking to ASOS she said, “My dad was brought up very old school, very strict - "Yes ma'am, yes sir,". So he's wearing leather pants and a boa, but he would be like, "Did you do your chores today?" Or "That dress is too short!”
Both Lenny and Zoe are frequently seen on red carpets together. Throughout her flourishing career, Zoe’s father has always been by her side, and not just for red carpet events. In an interview with Ocean Drive, she said, “It’s always what I've done, before I even had a real understanding of how the rest of the world saw my parents. My dad was always really supportive”. Today the tables have turned when it comes to giving advice. He told US Weekly back in 2011, “We talk about everything, but she is a very smart girl. She probably advises me way more than I advise her! She is very, very perceptive”.
5 Nicole Richie
Nicole Richie has never publicly stated that Lionel Richie is not her birth father, who is understood to be musician, Pete Escovedo. Despite this, Nicole and Lionel are very close. He was said to have adopted her when she was three, and then legally adopted her by the age of nine.
Lionel Richie featured on Nicole’s show Candidly Nicole, and the world was able to see how close these two are. In previous interviews, Lionel has spoken about how he gave his daughter advice when she was experimenting with drugs and getting into issues.
There was a time when things were not so great between the two, but since her stint in rehab, the two went to therapy together. They now have a much closer relationship with Nicole being able to give her father advice. On The Ellen DeGeneres Show last month, The Simple Life star admitted that she had encouraged Lionel to try cupping, “He’s never had cupping. He has now, obviously…I’m helping him is really what I’m doing. Enriching his life. For sure, you know he’s getting a little bit older”.
4 Jennifer Aniston
Jennifer Aniston’s acting ambitions should come as no surprise. Her father John Aniston, is best known for playing the role of Victor Kiriakis in the TV series, Days of Our Lives. John actually tried to discourage Aniston from television as a young child but she found a way. He was also very vocal about her pursuing an acting career. The Friends actress is also closer to her father considering her estranged relationship with her mother, Nancy Dow.
John Aniston has also had his opinions about Jen’s relationships. When the actress started dating Justin Theroux, he said to US Weekly, "He's a charming young man...I think they make a wonderful couple. We get together when we can." Yet just last year, John was said to have warned Theroux that he needs to set a wedding date soon, after the couple got engaged in 2012.
3 Miley Cyrus
For Miley Cyrus, having a father, Billy Ray Cyrus, in the music industry has meant that she has always had someone to look up to. When she was a child and her father took her to see Mamma Mia, it was at that point she told him that acting and singing was what she wanted to do. The two have an exceptionally close bond, and it’s clear that Miley relies on her father for his support. In September last year, she Tweeted a screenshot of the text message Billy sent her showing some supportive words, “You are crazy to be down. You are one of the luckiest people in the world right now. ENJOY IT!”.
Billy Ray has been by Miley’s side even through her wild antics. In an interview with Nancy O’Dell on Entertainment Tonight back in 2013, he told her that he sent her a supportive message after that controversial performance at the MTV VMAs. "I sent Miley a little note. She was taking a lot of hits from a lot of different directions and something just told me to speak to her. 'I said, I'm proud of you because you knew you had to reinvent [yourself], coming out of this mammoth monster known as Hannah Montana'."
Even after the backlash of her performance, her father was there to defend her in the media. Talking to Piers Morgan, he said, "She could have stayed Hannah Montana forever and made a great living doing that. But she's more of an artist than that, and she wanted to evolve, and she had to take her time and let that evolution take place. And again, she's very, very smart and she's had all of this thought out in advance."
2 Kelly Osbourne
Kelly Osbourne is really the ultimate daddy’s girl, but things haven’t always been seemingly easy for the two. Kelly has grown up having to deal with her father, Ozzy Osbourne’s addictions, as well as her own. Even when Ozzy fell off the wagon a few years ago, Kelly has been nothing but supportive. She told Cosmopolitan, "It doesn't make me love him any less. It took a long time to get to that place, but I understand it now. And my mother does too”.
After her split with fiance, Matthew Mosshart last year, Kelly took to Twitter to declare that there is really only one man in her life; “There will never be any man in this world that I love more than my dad!" On Instagram, she also posted a picture of herself and her father, saying, "My Dadda is the best person on earth to go to #hollywood parties with all we do is laugh because we can't take anything seriously! #CliveDavisParty #grammys (sic)".
1 Lady Gaga
Behind Lady Gaga’s phenomenal success in the music world, is two very supportive parents who keep the singer grounded. Gaga is often seen with her dad and frequently mentions him in interviews.
Joe Germanotta has done very well for himself as an Internet entrepreneur, owning a company that fits Wi-Fi in hotel chains. Throughout Lady Gaga’s rise to stardom, Germanotta has had to make some tough decisions. When the singer dropped out of CAP21 at the Tisch School of Arts, he agreed to pay Gaga’s rent only if she went back to College (if she was unsuccessful in her attempts to forge a career in music).
Germanotta is visibly an important and influential person in Gaga’s life. He is said to be the inspiration for her track “Speechless”, and she also dons a heart tattoo with “Dad” written in the middle. Gaga has entrusted her father with a number of significant positions. He is the manager of House of Gaga Publishing. In 2011, Gaga was said to have given Joe the rights to 50 percent of her earnings under their LLCs, Team Love Child and Mermaid Music.
