10 Famous Couples Who Fell In Love On Screen

Lights, cameras, love! It’s not surprising that celebs often avoid the pitfalls of the dating landscape that the rest of us common folk navigate, by finding romance on set. We imagine there’s only so many takes of a kissing scene you can manage before real sparks start flying. Put two good looking, successful, interesting people together who have to pretend to be in love and the result is often unstoppable romance. Not all off-screen relationships stand the test of time though – who isn’t still a little bitter that “The Notebook’s” Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams aren’t still together? Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman were married for nearly a decade after falling for each other in the classic 90s race car drama, “Days of Thunder.”

The favourite celeb couples on this list met in the most exciting ways; playing superheroes, assassins, toxic exes and fairly tale icons. We can only hope they keep the home fires burning and stay the way we love them best: together.

10. Javier Bardem & Penelope Cruz

This sexy Spanish couple met on the set of Vicky Cristina Barcelona, in 2008, where they played a volatile and passionate couple who were meant for each other but terrible for each other, as Javier‘s character explained in the movie; “We’re a contradiction.” In real life, there’s little evidence to suggest these two are anything but a perfect fit. They are both Academy Award winning actors – Penelope is the first Spanish woman to win an Oscar, while Javier is the first Spanish man to win the coveted award. Both are from Spain, and they have two children together, son Leonardo and daughter Luna who is just four months old. These two tied the knot in 2012, after their sparks ignited on Woody Allen‘s set.

9. Ginnifer Goodwin & Josh Dallas

After Ginnifer and Josh met on the set of “Once Upon A Time,” they now appear to be living happily ever after. The adorable couple play Prince Charming and Snow White on the popular TV series and got married in April this year, recently welcoming their first little bundle from the stork. Ginnifer has not held back from the media the love she has for her man. She said that after they wrapped for the season the couple headed to Venice, California for their wedding ceremony, where she married her Prince Charming in real life. Aww!

8. Ben Affleck & Jennifer Gardner

While the 2003 movie “Daredevil” wasn’t exactly the best superhero movie out there, it’s doubtful Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner even noticed, having fallen for each other while filming their sexual tension-filled fight scenes as Daredevil and Elektra. While Ben was fresh off the bitter break-up from another famous Jen, this romance was a slow burn. Two years later the new Bennifer tied the knot. The couple has been together for a decade now, and have three of the cutest kids Hollywood’s ever seen. They’ve done well at mostly staying out of the spotlight, other than a bit of a gaff by Ben during his Oscar acceptance speech for Argo, when he referred to his marriage as “work.” Jennifer good humouredly turned it into an amusing skit with him, when she later hosted Saturday Night Live. Clearly able to laugh at themselves, these two seem to know how to navigate the dangerous waters of Hollywood rumours to stay afloat for the long haul.

7. Natalie Portman & Benjamin Millepied

Natalie Portman didn’t just win an Oscar for her role in “Black Swan,” in 2010, she also found love. Benjamin Millepied was the ballet choreographer for the movie and the two fell for each other while rehearsing. They didn’t waste any time; in 2010 she walked down the aisle and a year after that they became parents to son Aleph. These days, the couple is in Portman’s native Israel for a movie she is currently directing, while her husband is converting to Judaism, in part because it is so important to his wife.

6. Angelina Jolie & Brad Pitt

The king and queen of celebrity romantic pairings have been together since 2005, when the couple met on the action set of “Mr. & Mrs. Smith.” The two played a married couple that find out they’re both assassins hired to snuff each other out, and then spend about an hour and a half trying to do just that. In real life, they obviously hit it off so well that soon after, Pitt‘s marriage to Jennifer Aniston fell apart and many still point the finger at Jolie for this breakdown.

However, it’s generally understood that the marriage was ending of its own accord, and when Jolie entered the picture the rest was history. ‘Brangelina’ now have a brood of six that follow them around the world; three biological and three adopted kids. The family tries to stay low-key, but they Jolie-Pitts are such hot tabloid fodder that they’re often photographed out and about doing very ordinary “people like us” things like taking their munchkins to the toy store. It’s been speculated that Brad and Angelina got engaged in 2012, because their kids wanted them to get married, but as far as we know they have not yet tied the knot. It’s clear, however, that this celebrity couple is seriously in love and have a close-knit family.

4. Freddie Prinze Jr. & Sarah Michelle Gellar

Easily the most low-key couple on this list, this couple embody the 90s. Freddie Prinze Jr. was the “it” boy of teen movies like “She’s All That,” while Sarah Michelle Gellar was the kickass star of one of TV’s greatest shows, “Buffy the Vampire Slayer.” The couple met on set in 1997’s “I Know What You Did Last Summer,” but it wasn’t until five years later that they wed in Mexico. Recently this year, Gellar posted a rare selfie on Instagram of her and her husband, and both look as happy as ever. They have two kids, a girl and an infant son, and while Gellar is getting back to work with the sitcom “The Crazy Ones” opposite Robin Williams, her husband isn’t so eager to return to set. While he’s made a few appearances on TV, Prinze admits proudly that he is a full-time dad and part-time actor. It’s too bad – even with the graying hair he’s as adorkable as ever.

4. Blake Lively & Ryan Reynolds

Another not-so-impactful superhero flick was the catalyst for love, on the 2011 set of “The Green Lantern.” Ryan Reynolds fell head-over-heels for his sexy co-star, Blake Lively, and vise-versa. Two years later they’re hitched, and we can’t help but hope they stay strong. Reynolds was previously married to another screen siren, Scarlett Johansson, but much speculation suggested the marriage was cold from the start. Who remembers that awkward snub from Johansson to her hubby who was sitting beside her when she won the Tony in 2010? Blake and Reynolds have been out and about together since tying the knot, and seem happy and in love, which makes us smile for the both of them. Thumbs up to these hot, happy Hollywood newlyweds.

3. Emma Stone & Andrew Garfield

Emma Stone and Andrew Garfield have yet to tie the knot, and if they don’t  – if magazine covers of the two of them fall into the “almost made it” recycle bin with McAdams and Gosling – no doubt many of us will rail against the world with, “Whhhhhyyyyyyy!” We don’t know them personally, but we love them. After meeting on the set of “The Amazing Spider Man,” in 2012, playing the romantic duo of Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy, the couple has been nearly inseparable. In refreshing candour, they are often spotted out and about together, and are not shy about showing affection in front the media spotlight. In further “Awwww” worthy quotes, Garfield told “Teen Vogue,” “It was like I woke up when she came in.”

2. Channing Tatum & Jenna Dewan-Tatum

Another couple clearly in love with each other is the long-time duo of Channing Tatum and Jenna Dewan-Tatum. Meeting on the set of their 2006 dance movie, “Step Up,” they paired off in real life and, after a wedding in 2009, welcomed their first child into the family, a baby girl, in 2013. The couple recently celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary with a dance party in Miami, where they lit up the floor all night, recreating some of their sizzling moves from the movie that brought them together. All we ask is that they start working on another dance movie together, as these two have serious skills – and chemistry.

1. Ashton Kutcher & Mila Kunis

This couple is still fairly new, though their history goes all the way back to “That 70s Show.” Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis, who played a kooky teenaged couple for eight years, went their separate ways after the show wrapped. Kutcher married actress Demi Moore, 15-years his senior, and Mila entered into a long-term relationship with Macaulay Culkin – proving to be a cute couple themselves. When both ended up single again in 2012, Ashton at 34, and Mila at 28, the stars aligned and these two friends found a spark that harkened back to their TV show days. They are now expecting a baby girl this year, and seem ready to take on the world together – we suspect a 14-year friendship has a little something to do with this evidently strong bond.
