There are some couples that are so perfect that you know that they are going to be together forever. You simply cannot imagine them ever breaking up. It would never, ever happen because they seem to be made for each other. They are the type of couple that make you believe in soul mates and make you wish that your relationship was a quarter as amazing as theirs. Sigh.
On the flip side, there are the couples that you hear about and you can already foresee the end of the relationship. They may make a great fling, but there is no way that you could ever imagine the relationship turning into something long term with them planning their futures together.
In Hollywood, there aren’t that many celebrities couples that fall into the first category. It seems like divorces and breakups are just as common as film premieres in Hollywood. However, there are lots of famous couples who fall into the latter category. You have probably read countless times about a hot new couple and predicted that the fling would last approximately six weeks–and 9 times out of 10 you were right.
For the other 10% of the time, there are those unlikely couples who we write off as rebound flings, poor pairings, or just-for-publicity relationships that actually end up lasting. The odds may have been against them, but their relationships turned out to be stronger than anyone thought. It turns out love does conquer all. These 10 celebrity couples are still together despite no one thinking they would ever last.
10 Courtney Stodden and Doug Hutchison
When 51-year-old Green Mile star Doug Hutchison announced that he was going to marry 16-year-old Courtney Stodden after getting permission from her parents, people were shocked. They also thought that a marriage with a 35-year age difference had about a 0% chance of surviving. The couple has had their ups and downs since getting hitched in 2011. In the beginning stages of their relationship, they were known for their PDA and attention-grabbing photo shoots. However, they had some trouble. They appeared on VH1’s Couples Therapy and legally separated for nine months. It looks like things are back on track because the couple is now planning on renewing their wedding vows in early 2016.
9 Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo
98 Degrees singer Nick Lachey became known for his marriage to Jessica Simpson thanks to their massive reality TV show Newlyweds: Nick and Jessica. Sadly, the relationship had more issues than the typical household bickering and they ended their marriage in 2006. Shortly after their split, Nick got together with Vanessa Minnilo after shooting the video for his post-breakup song “What’s Left Of Me.” Many considered the relationship to be nothing more than a rebound or a clever PR stunt, but Nick and Vanessa ended up getting engaged. Their wedding was documented on the special Nick & Vanessa's Dream Wedding in 2011. Today, they are still happily married with a son and a daughter.
8 Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi and Jionni LaValle
Former Jersey Shore reality television star Nicole “Snooki” Polizzi surprised fans in 2012 when she announced that she was engaged to one of her former Jersey Shore hookups Jionni LaValle after dating for a year and a half. That wasn’t all the eyebrow-raising news. She also revealed that she was expecting their first child. Many had their doubts that the party girl would be content with a more subdued, domestic lifestyle, but Snooki and Jionni got married in 2014. They have survived rumors that Jionni had an Ashley Madison account and they have also welcomed daughter Giovanna to the family. As for Snooki’s wild days, they may not be completely behind her because she revealed that her daughter was conceived while Jionni was driving. Yikes.
7 LeAnn Rimes and Eddie Cibrian
6 Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt
It is no secret that former The Hills stars Heidi Montag and Spencer Pratt would do anything for publicity. Remember Heidi’s foray into music and the clearly posed “candid” photo shoots? A lot of people thought that Heidi and Spencer’s relationship was for the benefit of the television show and that it would end after the series finale. However, Speidi got married in 2009 and have gone on numerous other reality TV shows together. They appeared on I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here!, Marriage Boot Camp, Celebrity Wife Swap and the British version of Celebrity Big Brother. They may not be ready to start a family quite yet, but they have been one of the few couples where reality TV seems to have actually helped strengthen their marriage.
5 Trista Rehn and Ryan Sutter
Trista Rehn was the first-ever star of The Bachelorette, after she was the runner-up on the first season of The Bachelor. She selected firefighter Ryan Sutter in the final rose ceremony. Back then, people were still skeptical that a relationship formed on a reality TV show would ever turn into a long-term commitment. However, Ryan and Trista’s love was the real deal and they ended up getting married in 2003. The event was televised in the special Trista & Ryan’s Wedding. It has been over 10 years, and the couple has made it through a stint on Marriage Bootcamp: Reality Stars. They also have two children together.
4 Jennifer Lopez and Casper Smart
When Jennifer Lopez split from Marc Anthony in 2011 after several years of marriage and two adorable children together, she got together with one of the dancers on her tour, Casper Smart. Everyone quickly wrote the relationship off as a hot rebound given that Casper is 18 years younger than her and that she had previously employed him. They dated for two years and attended many high profile red carpet events, but separated in 2014. However, it looks like the on-again, off-again couple have worked things out. They have been photographed together looking in love. They may not want to put a label on their relationship, but it looks like this romance isn’t over.
3 Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney
The odds of any couple formed on The Bachelor or The Bachelorette making it to the altar aren’t good. Based on previous seasons, it is lucky if the couple is still together six months after the show airs. Of all of The Bachelor couples, Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney had even less of a chance of making it considering Jason rejected Molly during the finale and proposed to Melissa Rycroft instead. In a shocking twist, Jason admitted on After The Final Rose that he made a mistake and asked Molly for a second shot. Fast forward six years later, Jason and Molly are married and have a two-year-old daughter together. Their marriage was even televised in a special entitled The Bachelor: Jason and Molly's Wedding.
2 Heidi Klum and Vito Schnabel
When Heidi Klum went public with her relationship with art dealer 29-year-old Vito Schabel, people assumed it was just a fling. Heidi is 13 years older than Vito, she is a mother, and she had just gotten out of a relationship with her bodyguard Martin Kirsten. The topless photos of Heidi getting hot and heavy with Vito on a beach contributed to the fling theory. However, Heidi and Vito have now been dating since 2014. This isn’t the first time that Heidi has been in a relationship that people didn’t expect to last. Many people thought the same thing about Heidi’s relationship with Martin. They ended up dating for almost a year, before she moved on to Vito. Here’s hoping Heidi and Vito are in it for the long haul.
1 Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama
Demi Lovato and Wilmer Valderrama began dating right after Demi had entered rehab to deal with physical and emotions issues. Rehab is something that tests even the most solid, long-term relationships. With Demi and Wilmer in the beginning stages of their relationship and having to deal with that, the odds were not in their favor. Then there was their 13-year age difference. They began dating when Demi was 18 and Wilmer was 31. However, the couple has defied the odds and they are still going strong. Demi revealed that in the years they have dated each other, they have only broken up when she was about to relapse, but they were able to get through it. There are even frequent rumors about them getting engaged now.
