10 Awesome Cars Not Allowed To Be Sold In America

via:thesnobmag.com

We all know the history of the automobile and the close ties that the United States has to that but that doesn’t in fact mean we can have any ride we want here. Strict regulations, economics, safety and other reasons make it that there are many cars we would love to have in America but alas we cannot. Luxury sedans designed exclusively for the Middle East as an invitation only purchase makes it hard for any American to own that cushy, gold, fast car or how about an iconic Land Rover that was pulled from U.S. soil due to airbag regulations or the indestructible truck that the rest of the world can buy.

From touring cars that remain only in Britain to station wagons loaded with luxury and power that Americans just aren’t interested in (or at least they think they aren’t) to compact cars that are packing a lot of punch; we are missing out on the chance to own a select number of amazing vehicles. We admit we have it pretty good in America for car choices but there are a few gems out there beyond our borders we would pay big bucks to own. From trucks to wagons to sedans to high powered sports cars we invite you to buckle up and explore 10 of the coolest vehicles not allowed to be sold in America.

10. Volkswagen Amarok

This pickup truck is one Americans don’t want; but that is only because they don’t know it exists yet. A muscular yet elegant truck that combines a torque diesel engine and smart ergonomic interior packing  a twin-turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder diesel engine. Acceleration from zero to 62 mph takes 7.9 seconds, showing that this truck has power. Inside is a cabin done in red, white and black leather with an infotainment center featuring a sub-woofer and 8 inch touch screen. Fun to look at, fun to drive; we have to wonder why this truck isn’t in America already?

9. Morgan Aero 8

This true British sports car won’t be making it to American soil anytime soon but that won’t stop us from drooling over this insanely cool car. Light, powerful and stylish is the motto of this car and boasts a 4.8-liter V8 engine from BMW and goes from 0-62 in 4.5 seconds. Designed to be sold as a convertible there is an optional top that stows in the rear for those rainy days. The retro looking dashboard, plush leather seats and a touch screen media system are just a few of the added extras. Custom designed for every customer you could not ask for a better looking and performing touring car.

8. Audi RS3 Sportback

Known as ‘king of the compact’ this high performance compact is exactly what America needs; unfortunately it is still not drivable in the United States. Featuring the firm’s most powerful five cylinder engine to date this four wheel drive hatchback will cover 0-62mph in just 4.3 seconds with a top speed of 174mph. Leather sports seats, LED headlights, the Drive Select Adaptive Dynamics System, an exceptional multimedia system and the ability to turn the car into a wireless hotspot are just a few of the amazing extra bonuses. Rumor has it this car may be coming to the US in late 2016; for now we can just cross our fingers and hope one day we can drive this serious compact.

7. Volkswagen Scirocco

This stylish hot hatchback is impossible to get in the United States and that alone makes people want it more. VW has always been to known to produce sporty fun cars and the new Scirocco is no exception. With a choice of five four-cylinder engines, three trim packages and basically a Golf GTI in a cocktail dress this car has become sort of the topic of many discussions. Inside you will find deeply sculpted seats that allow drivers to sit low along with a navigation screen and roominess in the back you won’t find in other three door compacts. The coolest part about this car is the price; coming in at under $30,000 USD.

Combine a pickup truck and a car and what do you get? Well in the 70’s you got the Chevy El Camino and the Ford Ranchero but sadly this concept disappeared by the 1980’s. The only ones to keep it alive were the Australians and it this concept is back and bigger than ever. Offering the utility of a truck combined with the sports power of a muscle car and an engine inspired by the Corvette you can be sure it’s packing a lot of punch. The Maloo features a 6.2 litre LS3 Generation IV V8 engine which generates 325kW of power and 550 Nm of torque leading this car or should we say truck; to be fast and furious.

5. Peugeot RCZ R

Winning numerous awards such as ‘best coupe’ and ‘best sports car’ over the past five years it’s a shame Americans cannot put the pedal to the metal on this power packed car. Combining elegance and power this beauty is full of distinctive RCZ style with features such as the double bubble roof, dual sports exhaust and the double stitched leather interior. Loaded with a turbocharged 1.6l engine capable of producing 270 bhp this car feels more like a race car than a road vehicle. Going from 0-62mph in just 5.9 seconds combined with award winning handling, torque and acceleration this car certainly offers enough punch for any sports car enthusiast.

This legendary unstoppable pickup truck comes in a plethora of varieties in many countries; just not the United States. Available as a single, extra or double cab, 2 or 4WD, manual or automatic, 2.5 or 3.0 litre diesel engines this truck provides practicality as well as power. A modified version of the Hilux was the first motorized vehicle to make it to the magnetic North Pole thus furthering the claim of its indestructibility. Inside amenities include a touch multimedia center, a rear view camera and spacious seating. No matter what option you choose in this truck it was built for reliability, off-road abilities and superior load carrying capacity.

3. Land Rover Defender

This much loved series hasn’t seen U.S. soil since 1997 when new air bag and side-impact regulations came into play. But that doesn’t mean this rugged vehicle stopped production. Available pretty much everywhere else in the world this workhorse model has retained much of the same design with some pretty amazing tweaks. The Defender isn’t known for its horsepower or cargo carrying capacity but more for its incredible torque with its 2.2-liter four-cylinder diesel engine. This baby will get you anywhere you want to go; except the United States of course.

2. Aston Martin Lagonda Taraf

Perhaps the hottest new car on this list is the Aston Martin Lagonda Taraf; a car originally created for the Middle East market and by invite only. With a plan to only build 100 models Aston Martin released the images and specs to the world and they went crazy. Aston Martin has now confirmed they will sell to customers in the UK, Europe and South Africa; but obviously not the US. What makes this car so special? The interior features body hugging quilted leather seats, spacious leg room and an advanced infotainment and climate center in the back. Elegant LED front and rear lights along with the 6.0-litre V12 engine that is under the hood makes this car just as powerful as it is beautiful.

1. Jaguar XFR-S Sportbrake

The Europeans are turning out some pretty epic station wagons including the XFR-S from Jaguar which includes a 550 hp supercharged V8 engine and enough room for the perfect family vacation. Boasting a top speed of 186mph and going from 0-60mph in just 4.8 seconds you won’t find your grandmother driving this station wagon. Inside you will find comfort and space with all the luxurious amenities including a multimedia system with touch screen navigation and heated steering wheel. Welcome to the car in which luxury meets practicality. Too bad you can’t own one in the U.S.
