The 10 Most Famous Rock Groupies Of All Time

In the 60s and 70s, rock and roll music was at an all time high. Legendary acts such as Cream, Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, Aerosmith, David Bowie, and more all experienced the phenomenon of the groupie movement. Truly in love with the music and willing to do anything to meet and connect to the band, groupies were an important part of the movement and became known simply for being around those who were famous. They gained notoriety for their devotion both to the music and the artists that created it.

When many groupies were brought along for the ride, they enjoyed all the perks of the lavish, free wheeling lifestyle that musicians led. Lodging at fancy hotels, free alcohol, drugs, attending concerts, going on the road, meals, it was all part of the rock and roll scene and came as second nature to the bands that were constantly touring and enduring life on the road, always going to the next gig to play the show. Groupies served as angels, feminine saviors that acted both as lovers and mothers to the weary musicians, inspiring them to play their music and even serving as muses for songs that would be written on tour and recorded for the next album. Whether they were away from their wives or girlfriends or steadfastly single, groupies were as much part of the rock and roll scene as the music itself, and it was there to stay.

From gorgeous and celebrated groupie Bebe Buell, mother of Liv Tyler, to famed groupie Pamela Des Barres, they've seen it all and toured and slept with the best of them. These women inspired and slept with the most famous men in the rock business. Without them, some songs would simply not be in existence, and would never be the same. While not all groupies were destined for notoriety, success, marriage, and fame, these groupies are some of the most successful and well known women out there. Here are the Top 10 most famous rock groupies of all time, the behind the scenes muses for some of the greatest players in rock and roll history.

Lori and Jimmy were in love and she even went on tour with them for a year, during which he hooked up with other women. He eventually started dating Bebe Buell and dumped Maddox, devastating her. Roxana Shirazi is one of the more up and coming groupies of the 80s, and she detailed her exploits as a groupie in her book The Last Living Slut. 5 Bebe Buell - Steven Tyler

Bebe Buell is known for being one of the most beautiful and famous groupies around, but also for being the mother of Liv Tyler. Buell had famously sat down Tyler and told her the truth about her real father when she was a teenager. Liv had believed her father was famous musician Todd Rundgren, but Bebe told Tyler that it was actually the lead singer of Aerosmith, Steven Tyler, well known for being an adequate lover in bed. Bebe became pregnant with Liv in 1977. But before that, she was groupie and muse to numerous rock stars in the seventies.

Bebe, a striking model and Playboy playmate, did have a deep appreciation for music and the vibe. Besides hooking up with Steven Tyler, Bebe has also rendezvoused with Elvis Costello, Rod Stewart, John Taylor of Duran Duran, and Todd Rundgren.

She once hooked up with Neil Diamond while just casually sitting on the tour bus, smoking dope. Neil looked at Connie and later had his manager come over to see him in her dressing room. Neil was there in a blue robe, waiting for her. Other famous musical hook ups by Connie included Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin, Keith Moon of The Who, David Lee Roth of Van Halen, and Alice Cooper of Alice In Chains, and John Bonham.

3 "Cynthia Plaster Caster" Albritton - Frank Zappa, Eric Burdon and more

Cynthia Albritton earned her name because she made a plaster cast of the members of the members of the bands she slept with. Albritton has slept with many musicians and even has a plaster cast of Jimi Hendrix's genitalia. Albritton liked being a groupie because, as she phrased it, she didn't see anything wrong with sleeping with famous, sexy men who were talented musicians and very intelligent. The band KISS featured Cynthia Plaster Caster in their song, appropriately titled "Plaster Caster".

Albritton was an aspiring art student that took her craft along with her early forays into the groupie world. She hooked up with Frank Zappa, Noel Redding of the Jimi Hnedrix Experience, Eric Burdon of the Animals, Dennis Thompson and Wayne Kramer of MC5, Zal Yanovsky of the Lovin' Spoonful, Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys, Pete Shelly of Buzzcocks, and Richard Lloyd of Television, and took plaster casts of each one.

2 Tawny Kitaen - David Coverdale, Tommy Lee and more

Tawny Kiaen invented the music video girl of the 80s. She is well known for being the blonde bombshell with the shaggy, long mane of hair who is splayed or moving on the front of expensive sports cars in music videos by Whitesnake including "Is This Love", "Still Of The Night" and "Here I Go Again". She even ended up marrying David Coverdale, the lead singer of Whitesnake in 1989. She eventually divorced him two years later in 1991 and then married Chuck Finley in 1997, a pitcher for the Angels baseball team. Tawny Kitaen changed her name from Julie to Tawny when she was 12 and preached the need for immediate gratification being what artists and musicians lived for.

Tawny ended up hooking up with David Coverdale, Tommy Lee of the band Motley Crue, Robbin "Ratt" Crosby, and John Taylor from Duran Duran. While Tawny didn't rack up as many musicians on her list as other groupies, she was introduced to the glam metal scene by her high school boyfriend, Robbin Crosby, founder of the band Ratt. Tawny appeared on the cover for their EP single, and also appeared in torn clothes on the cover of their album, Out Of The Cellar. She also appeared in "Back For More", a music video by Ratt. After Whitesnake music videos, Tawny took a number of acting roles, including co-hosting "America's Funniest People" and appearing on television shows like The New WKRP In Cincinnati, Married... With Children, Seinfeld, and Hercules: The Legendary Journies. She appeared on VH1's The Surreal Life and has been in and out of legal troubles.

1 Pamela Des Barres -  Mick Jagger, Gram Parsons, Jimmy Page and more

Pamela Des Barres is perhaps the most well known groupie of all time. In addition to hooking up with a number of rock stars, Pamela was a member of the famous groupie group, the GTO's, which stood for Girls Together Outrageously. Pamela started hooking up with rock stars when she was just 16. Even more fascinating is the fact that most believe the sweet muse Penny Lane in the movie Almost Famous is based on Pamela Des Barres. The movie is more or less based on the true story of a young Cameron Crowe going on tour with Led Zeppelin to write an article for the music magazine Rolling Stone. Played by Kate Hudson, the character is the ultimate fan of the band, providing inspiration and love for the men in the band Stillwater.

Pamela at first aspired to be musicians and became the proteges of legendary musician Frank Zappa. They never made it to widespread success or fame, and Pamela moved on to the role of groupie for rock stars. Pamela was known for her beauty, her captivating personality, and an open nature to loving any and all rock stars. Pamela also hooked up with Mick Jagger of The Rolling Stones, Gram Parsons, Jimmy Page, and Keith Moon.

Pamela eventually took a break from the world of groupie conquests and got married to husband Michael Des Barres. She had a child with him and even became a minister before divorcing Des Barres. Since then she's written and published three books about her life, the first one being "I'm With The Band: Confessions Of A Groupie".
